Time to go Goody?
First mention I've seen in reference to the endeavour to make the new gameplan work but also the buy-in levels. We've heard all about the players buying into this style over pre season, it's another thing to trust it when the whips are cracking. If they buy in during training but then revert back during the season, is that really buy-in? What is preventing that last bit of brain re-wiring and trust? At the start of 2021 you could really see how much the team bought in to the gameplan. They were doing everything and more to show that they trusted the process. They would even go beyond the basic mechanics of the gameplan and give that extra 5% for each other, the memory that often sticks in my head early that season was Jayden Hunt leaving a man and committing full bore to a 50-50 contest in a close game. This showed that they had drilled down this model so well that they were even able to do things outside of the system if needed. I think you make a great point about the outside noise and distraction. We had no-where near that level of distraction in early 21. Now players reportedly want out, boards shuffles, front office staff shopping players around and more. How can we expect this to be drilled in if off-field stability isn't 100%?

Harvey Langford Rising Star nomination Rd 3
I always think RS nominations in terrible team performances are much deserved, you're not being carried by anyone. Well done Harvey, the start of great things to come.

Petracca & Oliver at the Dees in 2026?
That's just it, win some games, show that the gameplan is taking some kind of shape and the blowtorch will simmer down a little.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Didn't Harry Madden once say that he didn't really do any fitness work and that rucking all day was more than enough to keep him in shape? Something like that.

Tragic. I don't think any AFL calibre team let alone us should be losing 7 straight centre clearances. We started the last quarter against North in a similar position, down and needing a lift, we responded by losing 4 out of 4 centre clearances and proceeded to be blown out of the water crushing any hope of anything. Holding the width and being balanced at the contest was something we really nailed from 21 to 23. It's sad to see we've gone back to the bees to the honeypot mode again.

Internal expectations
Maybe there aren't expectations this year. Maybe they just want to see what happens.

Melbourne Fans Mindset
As annoyed as I am about the current predicament I think sacking the coach after 3 games is a ridiculous sweeping change with no thought type of suggestion. Won't say it again after this but after a big outlay on membership fees, to basically throw the baby out with the bathwater when just over 2 weeks ago we hadn't even played a game yet feels like a complete waste. When was the last time a team replaced the coach at Rd 3 and went on to do great things for the season? Especially in this day and age? Whether we pull the coach now or mid year wonโt make a lick of a difference. Worst case scenario the season is a write off, best case we win some games and get back into the mix somehow. I respect the Deebrief guys but honestly Adam Simpson who I do rate might be the worst suggestion for an alternative. Boy oh boy, why bring in a premiership winning system based coach that never swings the magnets when we already have one? This will not ease frustration and he's not going to be able to implement a weagle's web or whatever before the season is out. Ridiculous. The Viney and T-mac bashing is something I turn away from. In particular Viney. I see the frustration but they all sung his praises up on the Gold Coast last year and couldn't bear the thought of North getting their mits on him, some are even the same people that think it was now a mistake.

Time to start a rebuild?
The idea by many that Petracca will be going to Collingwood and only Collingwood is very confusing to me. With 4 years left on his deal we're more or less in the same position as last year in terms of leverage. So if he has a decent year and requests a trade we a) deny the request, or b) if leaving the club is in his best interests, we listen to offers from all clubs and sell to the highest bidder. That's pretty much how it goes and unless Collingwood have a better draft hand this year, then I'd say other clubs would be more likely destinations. From the Pies point of view, they do have some decent cap space but Nick Daicos's monster deal kicks in 2026. Personally I think there are some up and comers there that could command a bit of money so I'm undecided if Trac is the big fish they should go for. As things stand they don't have a pick till the 3rd round either.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
There is never enough talk about how Port should have had an armchair ride to that Grand Final and choked hard time.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
I am too but there's also no gameplan in the world that will work with the skill level shown today. Something else is that confidence seems to be at rock bottom levels. Why are so many players suddenly not able to kick over a jam jar? Why are handballs often going to shoe laces? Why did at least three players today take control of the ball in their hands only for it to suddenly come out of them randomly like a ball possessed and fumble all over the place? I think there has to be at least some question marks over the coaching because we look inept in the mental side of things. No-one looks good though.
