Stephen A Smith sitting next to Jerry Jones. The side-eye he gave after that fumble was priceless.
  2. I'm trying hard to figure out what you're asking and I'm assuming you mean deserve more than Fitzroy? No fan base deserved that and I would hope it doesn't happen again.
  3. The quality of the draft definitely matters Taciturn Demon. It is great to have the weight of probability on your side. However I think we should be backing JT in more than being worried about the draft level. I definitely get wanting the odds on our side moneyball approach and that's how I usually think but I also think it's about outsmarting the rest with good finds. Not gonna argue with those examples and I definitely agree. But then you get drafts like 2018 which had hype and while we took two important premiership contributors it probably wasn't a home run. 2021 was also loaded with promise but apart from JVR who I still have high hopes for, Howes and Woewodin haven't hit the heights. I just think we can get bogged down with the shallow draft mantra. This year's draft may not yield as many Brownlows as other drafts but could there be some nice role players who can make us better? Of course.
  4. Look, the Tassie people deserve it but I hate the foundations this proposal is built on. People pretend that this is a ready made concept waiting to take off when in reality it is a tall order to begin with. A lot of things need to go right for it to work There are some Tassies on here that would know better but I would want to give them the best possible chance for it to succeed and I just dont see that here.
  5. Yeah this is the thing. I always thought it was a tall demand but they did agree to it. Nice little out for the AFL. Can't help but feel its a house of cards because people will just end up blaming the Tas government which in my opinion would be unfair but when a team is at stake who will side with them?
  6. People who keep using the 'shallow draft' line are more often than not people never sighted in specific player threads on the Trade/draft board and don't get involved in the nitty gritty of the draft. They usually heard the line from someone in the media or on here and paraphrase what they heard, it doesn't come as an original thought from personal research or anything like that. They have little knowledge of the under 18s game. It's important to call it out for what it is because I think it's giving many people here who want to understand the draft better a disservice. Over the years I've seen many drafts that were considered shallow where a couple of real gems came in the 3rd and 4th round. In contrast I've seen strong drafts that had major busts in the first round. Whatever your opinion on the quality of the draft, we only have the draft in front of us and in a couple of years you'll see some real 'shallow' drafts. There are kids in this one that can definitely help us. I've never heard a list manager say that they won't trade for picks because it's a shallow draft. It's total BS and I'm so grateful that the people saying it aren't the list manager because we'd be in the tank.
  7. So past the point of caring about this anymore. I don't know if new rules are going to work or not but they are constantly brought in to layer over old band-aids. Last touch OOB free kick good in theory but how many scrappy touches happen that go out, can be hard to tell what is a disposal and what is a tap on, more interpretation for the umps. Be happy with the umpiring standard as it is because it is never going to get easier. Cries for consistency are futile when it is this difficult to perform.
  8. Some great contested ability but do we need another ruck that can't kick for goal? Seems more ruck than forward.
  9. Probably. Still a very good body of work in 9 games though.
  10. I thought it was going to be Use Somebody by Kings of Leon!
  11. I'm warming to him a lot. Crazy high agility level and one of those 'fight in the dog' little players. Work rate and defensive pressure sound amazing. I haven't seen a lot of his field kicking ie. the 20-30m passes into 50 but it generally looks good. Most small forwards are tied to clubs so I wouldn't be surprised if he surges up the order. My doubts are his size - 178cm and does look slightly built and I guess as a result of that accumulation - will he get the ball enough to make serious impact? There's a few good examples of small forwards with this stature succeeding lately but we do see a lot of them get on the AFL park and struggle to get higher than 5 possessions a game. If that were the case, he'd want to be nailing every chance and half chance he gets. I'm sorry but from a family of architects and designers it's hardwired to think critically. 38 goals from a kid who isn't even a stay at home forward is damn impressive though, could even make a great tag team with Kozzie rotating through the middle. All for him.

Well he's just not going to have that kind of time with the ball in his hands at senior level. So adjustments will be needed. I think he's got tremendous upside and he seems to be able to hit targets on the run very well. He does seem like a bit of an energizer bunny though and I'd wonder if he is able to go into slow composed mode when needed. Other than that I'd be excited to land him but I agree he'd need some work.
  13. Would not pass on him if available, I just don't see it. True competitor.
  14. Thanks Galileo 😊
  15. A lot of people have also completely forgotten that he was at the peak of his powers before the injury and likely heading to another AA guernsey. That night against Carlton where he almost single handedly pulled us back from the death and kicked 5 goals was for me possibly his finest hour. Yet 2024 is now just written off as a bad year for Trac. I supported the decision to part ways but we shouldn't pretend like this transition will be easy.
  16. I'd be good with Taylor. We get so bogged down in drafts about skill, pace, running ability etc. It's never glamourous to talk about a defence first guy but we've needed one for a while. Lindsay would open up the ground with skill and Taylor can carry and draw defenders to him before getting handball off. Bit of a lightening and thunder duo (even though that doesn't make sense).

  18. Josh Lindsay not might be, he is the best kick in the draft.
  19. And this is the thing. I remember at the time people asking if we really would have been happy to hang onto the win or even the draw considering the drop off was the real problem. Of course I agree, it would have been a garbage win but I do think in this particular case scraping through for the win would have been infinitly better than the result we got. The difference between a poor last quarter win and now being the butt of every joke imaginable is wide. People were talking about this for weeks after, the moment a team trailing by 40 points in the last quarter kicked a few goals this game got a mention and will continue to into next season. Avoiding defeat was very much preferable and a rare time where you couldn't take use what-about-ery or we didnt deserve to win-ery to make yourself feel better. We needed to hang on at all costs. As quickly as I felt Max's goal after the siren (after our own comeback) lept us out of mediocreville, this game brought us back there. If we hang on to win this, the Wanganeen-Milera debacle on Browlow night isnt even a thing either. At least it got him his pay day.

  22. Excellent article. Personally I got a lot more out of this than the letter the other day. That was some up front and transparent leadership communication. I was pleased to hear more about the dialogue with Steven May and I think this is exactly how this kind of scenario should go. He has been told he probably won't feature in King's plans so his job is now to get back, train his backside off, set a good example for the youngsters and force the coach to change his mind. If your form is good it doesn't matter what your age is.
  23. I care to the point that it will show the world that it wasn't simply an MFC problem. Most of the media lauded the trade for GWS claiming it a 'bargain' and reeling off his past accolades. I don't mind people waking up and starting to see why the price to get him was so cheap. Is this the ready made midfielder that can take you to the next level or is there much more of a project required to get that desired result? While we're at it, let's not forget that this Giants team hasn't achieved the ultimate success yet. With an acquisition like Oliver, you would be hoping for someone bringing intellectual capital and know-how. The benefits could be amazing but it isn't going to be plug and play.
