Would like to know who had the idea to add weight to TMac, seems silly. Look at Hawkins and most key forwards clubs have been working to get weight off them to cover more ground, we went the opposite taking a guy that could cover ground to try and make him a big forward. If Tom can get moving he is an elite mark and set shot, but he is at his best running and jumping at the football not body on body. 19/20 can't jump or turn.

The big issue at the moment is club don't know what the TPP will be in 2021 and the list size. No idea how clubs are approaching players from other clubs why this is a great unknown.
-
Do a pick swap with the Bulldogs, they will lose their first round pick as someone will bid early on their kid from NGA and all they need is points to cover, might cost us future first round pick. If we really want a player that will be around mid first round that is the pick we go after, dogs don't need it. Same as Sydney's second round pick, they won't need it, I'm hoping we can trade Preuss to them with 47 to get this. Everyone keeps talking compromised draft, there is however a lot of good players that aren't priority access picks, but you want as many picks inside top 30 that you can get. The back half of the draft is a great unknown, I think you will see a lot of Rookie elevations and clubs taking minimal rather than drafting someone new. I can't understand North and other clubs that are culling big numbers, to me they will need to pick up a lot of delisted free agents to top up list, you aren't going to pick 5-7 kids from this draft

From what I've been told from WA, he goes OK nothing to be excited about at the moment but is bottom age Colts and hard to get a good read as he plays most his footy for his school. Hopefully he is year 12 this year so we can see how he goes at WAFL level next season, if he is any good you would hope he could play a bit of seniors next year.
-
He isn't a forward and can't get a crack at it in our side as a midfielder, that maybe the only reason he is looking at options, more midfield time. I wouldn't expect him to have much value, can't see him leaving, more value to the club that the pick we would receive, unless pick swapping say ANB and pick 47 to Adelaide for pick 30

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have nga just no good players in it. It is basically zones for indigenous and first generation migrants. The bulldogs have done nothing to develop the kid that is being compared to buddy, he is aboriginal and in there zone so they sign him to nga and he is theirs. Biggest stuff up by AFL ever and changes next year -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
drdrake replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
All he had to do was wait 4 to 5 days and he was free to do what he wanted. We aren't talking about a player that is young and inexperienced in life, he is experienced trying to win a new contract no matter what the circumstances may be he made a poor choice that will end his time on any AFL list. -
Langdon said this in an interview after our gws game. The question was something about 3km runs and Langdon responded more like repeat 150m runs. Speed in football is different, top speed is important but break away speed and the ability to change direction at high speed are more important.

I did throw in our third round pick. Gws it is about salary cap space, getting a need in a ruckman draft picks aren't that important as they always have academy players all they need is points to cover
-
Or just accept that neither really hold any trade currency and Tom will still cost us money for next 2 years. Hopefully we can offload a far chunk of his contract to another club. That is what it will come down to for Tmac not essential what we get back but how much we need to pay him for not playing with us. I just feel that he will be at MFC in 2021 as no other club will be interested in paying 80-90% of his current contract,
-
Preuss needs to be traded for a player, ask GWS about Himmelburg, might cost us a pick as well GWS will need 3rd 4th round picks for points.
-
Can't see any club banging on the door for him. Might get picked up as a delisted free agent
-
We play like u9s all our players go to the contest and want the ball. Handball handball turnover no one one the outside to break the line or stop the easy take away from the contest. The point kick ins are frustrating again our opponents know its going there and get numbers at the feet, we should know its going there but we are regularly outnumbered once it hits the ground. All our players won't the ball and don't do the 1%ers to help each other
-
I think biggest problem and have posted this in the past we play as individuals and don't seem to know where Max is intending to hit the ball and how to work for each other to create space. It is max hits ball and all mids chase ball. The other point we rarely play with a sweeper at centre bounces. We leave that space for max to tap to, issue is our opposition know this and shark it with no mfc player between them and chf

Best first year player will be interesting. Jackson started strong, Pickett had a good Middle and Rivers finished strong. Think Rivers should get this, his last 4-6 games have been outstanding BNF Petracca May Langdon Gawn Oliver
-
I just think he showed for all but the last 4 games he was heading in right direction despite the poor skills kicking into our 50m arc. Still kicked 19 goals from 13 games so really only needs another 21 from 9 more games. Cairns was a nightmare for all tall forwards.
-
In a 22 game season you are looking for an average of 2 per game, I think with the right delivery the right forward set up he can kick 2 a game.
-
When was the last time this guy played a game? The guy has played 3 or 4 games in as many years, even if you add in Casey games he has struggled getting his body right. He played a forward cameo for 2 games, his debut down back wasn't good. I think people get over excited by a player. Could he get his body right and claim either a KPP Forward or back role, yes, will he be able to maintain a high level performance no idea he hasn't to date.
-
Petty can't get his body right and Sparrow is more of what we have. To have pick 19 and 22 you can use one to on trade or bundle up to get into the top 10 or take to the draft there will be good players available at these picks.

I reckon the list will be 38 players, plus 1 Cat B rookie. Whether that is 36 + 2 Rookies or just straight out 38 players no more rookie list Certain Delistings Bedford Chandler Wagners x 2 That would bring us to the 40 players. We need another 3 for draft picks Dunkley Bennell(unfortunately stuffed up completely) Omac Trade Buddle up Sparrow and Petty for Adelaide second round pick 19 Tmac for Steak knives which will suck as we will be left with tops third rd pick and paying some of his contract might be worth more to keep him on the list Preuss Retire Jetta unfortunately his time is up has a massive dangerous flaw in his game that he needs to retire for his health. He leads with his head, been the last 2 years he puts his head into danger way to may times. Kolodjashnij same as Jetta, you life after the game is more important than your time in the game. The big issue for the club both Jetta and Kolo are contracted for 2021 so if we pay them out on health issues does this fall into the 2021 cap? Jones, not sure on him as yet with the compromised draft and not seeing the 18s this year another year for Jones is better than taking a punt with a kid at pick 70 or a rookie Thats 12 players, I think we are at 44 plus Cat B rookie. We keep Bradtke as Cat B rookie That takes us to 32 players, based on 38 players we have 6 new players to bring in.

I think the last game summed up our season. Slow start, followed by a period of great football, then really poor football and to finish with a almost there game, got the win but should have been Ruthless in the last half and won by 10 goals, we weren't rested on how good we played in the second quarter and hung on. Highlights May, Petracca, Rivers, Jackson, Langdon and in the last half of the year our backline group by far our best performed group. May, Lever, Tomlinson, Salem, Hibberd, Rivers are a back 6 that kept us in a lot of games. Concerns Midfield we have massive issues in here when opposition teams run and spread even more so other big body midfields that compete at the contest. Essentially we have Langdon on the outside and our inside bulls just butcher the ball to much. There was a massive disconnection between our Rucks and mids. Don't think our midfield works hard enough defensively. Forwards, just poor. Went a midsize forward line didn't work, went 3 talls didn't work. 2 talls worked well with Jackson and Weiderman and I think the last few games Weiderman had little influence more through conditions and he didn't work well with Tmac or Preuss. Saturday the defenders focused on him which let Fritsch and Brown to have an impact. Small forwards get ahead of the ball rather than work front and square. Petracca forward is a bonus but he needs to spend more time in the midfield. Fritsch is frustrating player, great marking leading player but as soon as it hits the ground no defensive side and gets forward of the ball looking for the easy over the top. I think Weiderman can become a 40-50 goal a year forward with Jackson in front of him, and improve kicking efficiency through our midfield. Hannan, Melksham, Spargo, ANB need to be replaced. If we can improve our kicking efficiency add some outside run we have the bones of a top 5-8 side, strong backline. Need more outside runners and another if not 2 Key forwards to really step up if we want to push into the top 4. Hard to assess the season, we improved from 2019, still a long way off 2018 form and the fact if we beat Syd and Freo we would be sitting 6th is a little disappointing.
-
He is better than Spargo, ANB and Bedford and I leave Pickett on potential ahead of him. So second best small forward on our list

I reckon the Eagles will be barracking for the Dockers tomorrow as well they would rather play us than the dogs

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Or if they are smart they trade this years first round pick for a player or future first round pick or 2020 second rd plus 2021 second round. If I was in the Bulldogs position I would be looking for a future first round pick, the NGA's stop next year except for NSW/QLD clubs. They get a kid touted as Number 1 pick just need to ensure you have the points to cover. -
Before someone puts out that everyone should wear helmets, lets look at the NFL, they have massive helmets and this is a big issue. My experience especially with kids wearing helmets they lead with their head and don't learn to protect themselves. Like the NFL if they weren't wearing helmets they would learn to block and tackle not head first like they do. It is part of their sport but the helmet is needed but you need to learn how to protect the head both yours and when your opponents. The biggest issue in AFL for concussion now is sling tackles, these are plain dangerous not only for concussion but the risk of spinal damage. Grounds are a lot hard these days no real cushion at all once your arms are pinned you are at the mercy of the tackler.
