The "race card" was pulled by the OP (and now by you) I, like Nasher, question the logic and thought process that took the OP from A to XenonB39. If you start a thread that suggest someones race is why they were selected that to me is sloppy thinking, AFL players work hard and train hard to get to play the game at the level most people on this site only dream of. To then say that they get selected into a team because they are indigenous is ignorant and a little sad really and as I have previously stated sloppy logic. I would have no issue if the OP had only said he got selected because of his, form, fitness or lack of discipline.

Sorry Jose but you also forgot the word "be" as in "It should be mandatory" which then makes more sense. lol
-
Well Matt Burgen also said match fitness and Neville's versatility also helped in his selection, also that last time they played in Darwin he had a really good game. Jordie is also an emergency so he may still get called up. Nevilles Versiltily as a players holds him in good stead and his defensive skills are more developed then Gysberts. Which is what the coaches are asking for. My question to you is why does the selection of Jetta over Gysbert immediately bring your train of thought along the line of questioning it did so much so to start a thread saying Neville Jetta was picked because he is Indigenous and we are playing in Darwin where a lot of Indigenous people live. FInally could it not be that the Selection Committee are more intimately knowledgeable about how each of the players are tracking and select the team that they believe will give them a greater chance of winning.

I am confused what symbolism are you referring to.
-
So that would mean he would not make good Trade Bait I guess, I am interested to see if he gets a run next round I for one want to see what he has to offer. 45 hitouts and a Goal on the weekend for Casey must mean he can play at some level.

The list - who goes at the end of the year?
felixdacat replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
We know something from the coaches office he will slice at least 3 from the list at minimum. -
You do realise that quoting a British Philosopher and a US General does not add credence to your arguments. The Status Quo or the way things are presently in regards to the team will remain the same until they change then that will be the status quo, defending the coach and the club is something I do as a supporter because in all honesty they have not defrauded anyone, or killed anyone or even attempted to restrict my freedoms so I don't feel the need to attack the Status Quo just because we haven't been winning a lot of football games. Tyranny of the majority is a terrible thing although a lot of posters disagreeing with you is not necessarily tyranny, none of the posters have unlawfully seized your power, or taken advantage of you or used extreme or cruel tactics when refuting your opinion. BTW Minorities can kick a$$, in fact, minorities often assert their interests over the majority especially if the they are well organised.(or funded) Yes being a minority can mean you are downtrodden and overlooked which is terrible if you have a legitimate cause but sometimes being in a minority can also mean that you are wrong. For example please refer to the Flat Earth Society. I agree that everyone has to take responsibility if they want to instill a winning culture at the Club, what I disagree with is your assertion that the Coach is not taking responsibility for the losses, in all his press conferences he refers to the team as "we" and when he is asked question relating to him personally he uses "I". I think Mark Neeld is driving the reality bus he certainly is not driving behind it in a car honking his horn at it. Oh and I know this may seem like I am making non-sensical comments in reply to your post, but you started it by bringing Patton and John Stuart Mill into it.

I will say there is a lot of interesting, strange, god awful verbal diarrhoea being thrown around on this thread, haters be hating big time. I would like to say that we lost again but it was on the cards after losing two players through injury, our fitness is not at the level yet where we can cover losing 2 players via injury and still run out a game strongly. It is a shame about Bennell and will be interesting to see what happens end of season with him. If Jamar is out next week then I am looking forward to seeing Spencil in the ruck had a good game at Casey on Sunday from all reports (45 Hitouts) Then Martin can spend more time forward. Loved Strauss long range kick into the forward line it was a thing of beauty, also Blease and Bail's Goals were wonderful and Bails tackle on Ballintine. Loved the way that when we had a full compliment, we answered when we were challenged. Earlier this year did not see it, I reckon if we had Jamar and Benell we would have been singing the club song. Oh well Sh!t Happens!

Trade Talk, Supporter Fatigue and Neeld's Catch-22
felixdacat replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am confident that the above scenario will not happen, I don't like to deal with "what if's" to much because I have better things to waste my time on (like posting late at night on D'land instead of going to bed). I believe the catch 22 you are talking about will not eventuate. Nothing in what the coach or the club has said makes me think that they will go for the short term approach. With proper preparation, hard work and development the players we have can be competitive. There are some fringe players that will be delisted at seasons end, of that I have no doubt but to think that we will be in the same boat at this time next year I don't see that happening. If it does happen...then please refer to McQueen #11. -
lmao Beamer will be okay he just needs to refocus a bit. A run in Casey might get his hunger back, it help also that Casey are winning because you get bit disillusioned always losing. Give him a few weeks and hopefully a couple of wins and he will get that focus and hunger back.

NNNOOOOOO!!!

I am glad he is playing because of this thread lol.

It was a good win. It baffles me why Sheedy did not play Cornes and had Power as the sub he was saying it was to do with resting them because they were playing a top 4 side in Sydney next round. Its not like they were on the cusp of the eight and taking down a top 4 side would elevate them to contention. I reckon Sheedy was buoyed by there last few rounds and and how they took it up to the Tigers last week and became over confident. Oh well glad the boys gave them a good flogging and maintained pressure for most of the game.

What a strange topic!

Unlike others I am willing to see what Cale makes of next year and this thread is a little redundant if he is contracted next year. The timing of Cale's Clangers were probably the most difficult to swallow on Monday. FWIW Jordie McKenzie, Nathan Jones, James Frawley, Colin Garland, Brent Moloney, Mitchell Clark, Jeremy Howe, Jack Trengove, James Magner this is the list of players who have made more clangers then Cale Morton in total for the season so far.

James Magner Guts and Determination!

I thought he did? -
My Highlights for the game Col Garland marking in the Forward Line Rivs bump then desperation tap on. Magners mark in the 4th quarter where he out bodied his player into a second Bomber and then gave his opp player a bit of lip as he run past. Dunns tackle on Melksham Grimes clearance out of the centre in the 4th quarter Sylvia's inside work T Macdonald's pickpocket of Alwyn Sellar and Mckenzies Spoils in the defensive 50 Watts game against all his opponents Neelds early reaction Hird's confusion and disbelief in the Box I could go on and when I rewatch the game for the fifth time I will probably see more. Great game by the boys really good ball movement going forward then really good defensive pressure. Go the Dees!
-
Great win and even better 2 minutes before the game decided put $ down on the win @ $11 so even more stoked on the minus this game has ruined my perfect footy tips so far for this round. But I can live with that. Go the Dees!

Looks like a straight swap of Watts for Garland lol. If only he could kick straight

I beleive the forward line currently can be seen to be in the one of the three marks of existence touted by Buddha that is called Anicca (Sanskrit anitya) "inconstancy" or "impermanence". This refers to the fact that all conditioned things (sankhara) are in a constant state of flux. In reality there is no thing that ultimately ceases to exist; only the appearance of a thing ceases as it changes from one form to another. Imagine a leaf that falls to the ground and decomposes. While the appearance and relative existence of the leaf ceases, the components that formed the leaf become particulate material that may go on to form new plants. Buddhism teaches a middle way, avoiding the extreme views of eternalism and nihilism. taken from Wikipedia because I am to lazy to rephrase in my own words. But in a nutshell the forward line still exists but is in a constant state of flux.
-
IMO I don't think other teams will rate Sylvia as high as others on this forum have. I personally think he is skillful but lazy and see no upside in keeping him unless he finds a work effort. IMO other clubs see this also.

Yes the team is performing badly and yes it may be that some players may be feeling uncertain and concerned for their futures, but this is always going to happen when a new coach comes on board. The one thing that Jared said today I find comforting is that the Coach is up front and honest with players in regards to what they are doing well and what he wants them to work on. Also Jared alluded to Neeld being accessible to all players wanting feedback. The problem that I have with the media write up is the talks about their being a rift between senior players and the coach. Like its the sole reason that we are losing when there are a combination of issues that the team are trying to work through. Neeld seems to be quite clear in his instructions on what he expects from each and every player, the players have a choice to adhere or get dropped down to VFL. If individual players are not behind the coach 100% then I say good luck to them because what the rest of the club as whole is saying is that they are a 100% behind Neelds vision for the future. SO yes I agree it is a safe bet to say that some players are feeling a little bent out of shape and may even harbour ill feelings towards the coach, but if they think that they can continue to feel this way and still give their all on the field then they will come undone. When they do they may find themselves in the VFL or worse at seasons end.
