Choko I can agree with all your calls except Lloyd, a good analyst needs to be unbiased and Lloyd can't let go of the Bombers. -
When Hawthorns season is over does anyone think that Sam Mitchell will go to GWS? I personally think he is a bigger chance then people think. It has been said that it won't happen because of his young family and he has the support of his family in Melbourne to assist with the children. But to me that may give him more of a reason to give due consideration to any offer. I am aware of what having children can do to a person as I have 4 children aged 9, 5, 4 & 2. You start thinking more and more about the future and in particular their future and ensuring that you are able to give them the best life you can. I am not saying he is a certain to go just that the reasons people are giving for why he will stay can also be the reasons why he may go.

Experts in the Media Getting It Wrong

I hate the term Expert, in general because when you are deemed an expert in any field it is assumed that you know everything about a subject. This type of thinking can get you into trouble as your thought and thinking processes can become rigid and and you spend the rest of your time trying to protect your view as the right one. You see it in Academia where people will be trotted out as the expert in a field and when new thinking or ideas come along the expert can sometimes start circling the wagons rather then consider the other view. In my field people have called me an expert but I never except it and I always say I am a person who knows some stuff and if I ever declare my self an expert, you know I am probably drunk and I need to go sleep it off. In regards to Media there is a saying that I always remember that is used in this arena. "IF IT BLEEDS, IT LEADS!" So media is solely about emotion and entertainment, News is not about informing people it is about gaining you attention and making you feel. If you don't believe me then sit down watch the NEWS and then afterwards think about how each story makes you feel. The emotional attention getter will be first then it will move be a roller coaster of stories that will have you angry or sad and worried and they always end in a feel good story. TV in the Media world is like the Juveniles and print was supposed to be the mature adult. But with the advent of the internet and the ability to have a lot of information at your fingertips from all over the globe you start getting things occurring like News of the World and Sport News First. Anyway that's my opinion and now I will get off my box as my better half wants some soap! -
They have Dean Wallis at 41/1 odds WTF who would take that bet?

This was the last thing I had any faith in that was written by a sports journo on this subject. My link I've had no approaches from GWS: Scully By Matt Burgan9:43 AM Fri 04 Mar, 2011 TOM SCULLY says he has had no approaches from GWS. Scully fronted a packed media conference at AAMI Park on Friday morning and answered plenty of questions regarding his future. He said adamantly he wants to be a one-club player. “[it's] absolutely important. I’d love to end my career and say that I was a one-club player and I anticipate that’ll be the case," Scully said. "The Melbourne footy club has given me a great opportunity and I’m very thankful that I’m in the position that I am. "I wake up in the morning and I come to work and I love what I do. I’m just really looking forward to playing footy this year as well. Scully said he “loves the club and all of my teammates”. He said he was firmly focused on the season ahead and would let his management and Melbourne sort out his contract situation. “I’m focused and driven about playing footy,” Scully said. Scully said his intent for 2011 is be "focused and driven on playing footy". “The odds are that there are going to be players from all other clubs who fall out of contract and come under this speculation, so there’s not much you can do about it," he said. "I’ll keep saying that I’m playing footy and let the club and my management deal with that and I’ll put full trust and confidence that they’ll do that in due course.” He said the reason he has put off his contract negotiations is because it was agreed upon with his management last year.| “Well in August last year, my management and I decided that I just wanted to play out my full two years at the club and just see how it goes," Scully said. "I’m half-way through my first contract, so again it’s not a focus of mine - I’ll leave that to my management and the club to sort out. "Again, I’ve confidence that they’ll work through that and get the best outcome for everyone.” melbournefc.com.au

Decisions like this one need time to make you don't rush into them. Just because he hasn't decided to your timetable doesn't make it a joke/farce it just means he is giving it due process. Another point about Journo's as other people have written because they get paid to write doesn't mean they are the fountain of knowledge. Like all of us they are human and they get it wrong, what peeves me off is because TS and Management are ensuring that they weigh things up properly and are not given anything away till they come to a decision. Journo's just make $h1t up! or speculate unfortunately there speculation like a lot of people goes along the lines of. Well gee its a lot of money what would I do?...oh then he must be going..yeah I 'll write that ...and because I can't be certain I will couch it in vagueness so I have an out...yeah that looks good...kach$ng! Okay it's a bit of a stretch but right now I hate all sports writers.

What even more hilarious is when writers change their minds within a week a great example is the supposed First Lady of Football - Carro Wilson First its Scully Future not Set on the 3rd September 2011 then its Scully 'Certain' to Sign with GWS on the 8th September 2011.

Link Here Giants' draft rules explained The entry rules for GWS Giants will be as follows: 1. National rookie access: From the end of the 2010 season, GWS Giants has the right to select up to a dozen 17 year olds born in the January - April window (Jan-April 1993), with the option to relocate to Sydney for the 2011 season. The club also will have the option to trade some of this group to secure experienced AFL players from other clubs, consistent with the rule that applies to the Gold Coast FC. 2. 2011 NAB AFL Draft: GWS Giants to have Pick No.1 in each round. GWS Giants to have Picks 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 in round one. Please note that these selections have priority over any other special assistance/priority selections which may be available to other clubs, as per the rule that applies to the Gold Coast FC for the 2010 Draft. 3. 2010 NAB Rookie Draft: GWS Giants to have Selections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. 4. 2011 NAB Rookie Draft: GWS Giants to alternate NSW priority selections with the Sydney Swans. GWS Giants to have first selection. 5. Zoned access: GWS Giants to have zoned access to up to 16 NSW players from southern NSW/ACT and all areas outside the current NSW scholarship region during the period covering the 2010 to 2013 national drafts. GWS Giants to be zoned players from the Northern Territory who will be draft eligible by the time of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 national drafts. 6. 2011 and 2012 post-season, AFL-listed player access: GWS Giants to have capacity to pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL Draft, or were previously listed with an AFL club. If the club does not sign 10 players after the 2011 season, it can sign the balance of up to 10 players at the end of the 2012 season. GWS Giants to have capacity to sign up to 16 uncontracted players. Maximum of one player from other AFL clubs, unless a club agrees to trade more than one player to GWS Giants. If the club does not sign 16 uncontracted players after the 2011 season, it can sign the balance of up to 16 players at the end of the 2012 season. 7. Incentive to other clubs trading with GWS Giants in the 2011 and 2012 post-season: GWS Giants to be given access to four 17-year-olds born in the January to April 1994 window, with all players to be traded to other clubs. Selections will be allocated to GWS Giants so the club can trade for established players, but the club will not have access to these 17-year-olds. If the four trades are not completed in the 2011 post-season, the balance of up to four trades may be used in the 2012 trading period. Expanded list and increased salary cap: GWS Giants will also have an expanded list size and TPP allowance in the club’s initial time in the competition, through to 2019, as follows: 2012 - 44-50 senior list, nine rookies with $640,000 - $1m TPP extra allowance; 2013 - 44-50 senior list, nine rookies with $640,000 - $1m TPP extra allowance; 2014 - 44-50 senior list, nine rookies with $640,000 - $1m TPP extra allowance; 2015 - 44-48 senior list, nine rookies with $640k - $880k TPP extra allowance; 2016 - 42-46 senior list, nine rookies with $520k - $760k TPP extra allowance; 2017 - 40-44 senior list, nine rookies with $400k - $640k TPP extra allowance; 2018 - 38-42 senior list, nine rookies with $200k - $520k TPP extra allowance; 2019 - 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs. Compensation picks Further, as part of the entry rules and in line with the rules that are in operation for the Gold Coast Football Club, Demetriou said the AFL Commission had again confirmed that any club that lost a player to the expansion side would be eligible for a compensation pick. Compensation picks will be tradeable and can be used by clubs at any time within five years covering the period 2011 to 2015. First round compensation picks can not be until the 2012 draft onwards. Clubs will be required to nominate the year in which they plan to use the compensation pick before the first round of the Toyota AFL season in that particular year. As per the rules with Gold Coast, the compensatory pick would be assessed around the player’s age (greater weighting for younger players), club contract ranking (greater weighting for club key players), on field performance (greater weighting for strong club best and fairest performance) and draft position if less than four years experience. This ranking system will then determine if a club is eligible for a compensatory pick in one of five spots -- first round pick, end of first round pick, second round pick, end of second round pick or third round pick. Under the model, the round one, round two or round three picks would be taken immediately after the pick the club already has in that round in the draft that year.

FYI Gary Lyon on Triple M talking about Sam Mitchell GWS rumour mentioned Jaeger O'Meara and the GWS Incentive trades as described below on the AFL Website 7. May have all been said before but Gary does have an interesting view regarding what he believes should be put into any these incentive deals.

See Below Post "Nuff Said" Just So I Am Clear So the Grandparents of a friend of TS say they are shocked if he stays but also say that he could stay. Tom supposedly feels let down according to these Grandparents. They also commented that his parents are moving to Sydney as his father now works there. I reckon he is not the only one who seems to have taken their Ball and gone home. What I can not understand is why people speculate further on rumours? How reliable is speculation on a rumour anyway? Isn' it like the blind leading the blind?

Does this thread now move to the Draft/Trade forum now?
