I'm not disputing how much the club needs the supporter base. But membership grew by around 10% (pa) from 2008 when it was at 29k and peaked in 2011 at 36k, then rallied slightly and dropped down to this years 33k. I thought Jim was aiming for consecutive growth and to get above 33k. Aim high, but realistically the club has to win back the 3k members they lost this year, let alone an additional 4k of members. All I know is that there is a direct positive correlation between results and memberships. Roos alone should raise membership numbers - but they need to show some results to get above the 40k bracket.

We were are 33k this year, after a 5 year high of 36k. 40k is a possibility, but I'd be happy with just covering the short-fall this season. Ps, struggling for 25k?

The argument pivots not on that he is playing finals and Toumpas isn't but that one is already accomplished and capable of playing at a high level and the other struggles most of the game and hasn't got his act together. Immediately some will jump on, yet this cant take away from where both are currently. (?) The point of mentioning the finals is that Wines seems quite at home and capable even at this level. Finals, arguably is always more demanding than h&a (home and away?). Its not that his IS playing them but that he can. Toumpas isnt settled even at H&a level . He would be at sea in the finals, Wines isn't . It's therefore a very simple deduction to make that Wines is far ahead of Toumpas. - So in short, Wines is ahead of Toumpas because Wines can play finals.

Wines was always going to have a good year. Physically he was ready to go. Instead we chose Toumpas, who recruiters still say is more skilled, but not physically built yet. Yeah sure some Wines mature early, but most good wines take time and patience. We didn't choose him, Toumpas will be good, get over it.

But he isn't so move on. This has been covered in the finals thread.
