  1. We've been so one dimensional and predictable heading into F50 for 2 years. This is not ideal but hopefully this forces our hand to be more creative and change things up.
  2. Surprised it took this long. There would have been a queue of sponsors lining up at The Holden Centre demanding his resignation.
  3. Agree loges. Geez we can jump to conclusions quickly. Wasn't long ago that a large proportion on here rated May's recruitment a flop because he came to us not in pristine condition, schooner gate, and early injury. If it becomes a Mitch Clarke type scenario then sure rant away all and sundry but let's just cool our jets a little.
  4. I like this rule change. One other they must change is the 50m penalty for " encroaching " on the player with ball from a free kick or mark. Rarely is the "encroacher" slowing the player down. It's also completely random when umps pay it or not. A blight on the game.
  5. Thanks everyone for your beautiful words. We farewelled Mark at a beautiful service yesterday with the MFC ever present. There were quite a few people including his kids wearing Dees merchandise. His coffin was draped in a Dees flag and cap and `Grand old flag` was played whilst showing Marks life in pictures. I spoke of his love for our club during my speech. I`m once again grateful to the club for organising a video which we aired of Steven May who Mark sponsored, sending his condolences and best wishes to his family and friends. I`m pretty sure I got the 3 votes at his wake last night, a very sore head today.
  6. Its with a very heavy heart I write this tonight. Mark lost his battle with cancer this morning. He fought bravely for around 3 or 4 years and was in quite good health even a few months ago but has been hospitalised the past few weeks. We played cards by his bed with another mate on Saturday night and he was in a happy, positive frame of mind and even gaining physical strength for a few days when out of nowhere he felt really crook so we let him get some rest. Its the last time I heard from him. He was as passionate a Demon as you could find and like many of us, a very nervous unit when watching us play. He would get so nervous when watching at home that he`d get up and fold washing or put dishes away when things got tight in the last qtr. rather than watch the TV. He has been a player sponsor for around 9 years of Jesse Hogan and now Steven May along with having his kids being members for sometime so has made a significant financial contribution to our great club for a long time. Many of you may remember him being quite open about losing his wife to cancer 4 years ago. The only positive I can find from this is that he is now with her, I know he missed her terribly. He leaves behind 3 young kids who will live the rest of their lives without parents, and 2 older kids who need to somehow get on with their own lives and bring up those younger kids. Life can be bloody cruel at times. I told him wherever he ends up that I`ll drink a bottle of his favourite scotch with him when we win the flag, but did joke that I`ll likely be on the other side of hell with him when that happens. I want to add how grateful I am to the MFC, particularly Tamara who I`ve been in close contact with in regards to Marks health. She organised an MFC polo and cap (Mark wore a Mark Neeld era polo nearly every single day since I met him) along with a handwritten card of support from Big Max. It arrived on Friday by express post, any later and he`d never have seen it.The smile on his face was priceless. RIP Mark, I miss you buddy.
  7. Agree 100% Cats by 85 ?
  8. I can still remember the painted wall in the rooms "There is no substitute for winning ". Unfortunately it appeared none of the players in the 70s/early 80s could read!
  9. Superb H, could not have described him better. I feel blessed to have grown up as a kid watching him play and was fortunate enough to get into the change rooms after matches regularly and I'd look for him and Laurie Fowler who would alway give you time for a chat. Fond memories.
  10. Picked the same day as Bec Judd's announcement that she is leaving the city of Melbourne, to try n keep this low profile ?
  11. Semis minimum or bust next year. Considering the base we came off in 2018 we should be aiming for a flag, but we are not. There's a breath of fresh air with the recent coaching / staff changes which gives me some hope.
  12. Met him just before schoonergate (he had 1 beer) and I could not have been more impressed with him which is not what I was expecting. He acknowledged he didn't arrive in best condition and it drove him to change his training habits which he did. He has absolute certainty about his ability without being arrogant and as we've seen is not afraid to speak his mind when a player or the team are not up to standard. He's our best leader by a long way in my opinion.
  13. I agree with this LH. There appeared from afar to be very little communication between the 2, especially in the coaches box. Gee, Mahoney must be one hell of an operator, whatever it is he does other than list management. The club has been a failure pretty much every year he's been involved and he survives again.
  14. Happy with this. Chain him to Langers and learn the wingman role. His disposal is not dissimilar to Langdon, just needs the tank and workrate.
  15. It's a beautiful thing. They absolutely despise the Storm and Gus is not alone. One of the greatest teams in the history of their sport and they hate it. What they have achieved this year being away from home for 5 months when most other teams slept in their own beds is truly amazing. Won't get acknowledged in Sydney though, they'll be talking only about Origin by tomorrow night.
  16. Stared thoughtfully out of the coaches box rubbing his chin....and did nothing.
  17. He's too busy trying to decipher the answers to all his riddles of past years, none of which ever eventuated.
  18. Let me get this right.... Clarry wants success and Carlton came calling ????
  19. Pretty sad to say such is our highlights reel, but that is up there in the greatest moments I've experienced at the G in my half century. Unforgettable.
  20. May was under the impression he was going to be a Pie. His manager suggested he have a chat with Goody before he committed which he did almost begrudgingly. At the end of the phone call he told his manager he wants to be a Dee. I know it means nought without a source but that is how it played out.
  21. For a few seasons including 2000 worked directly with Shane Charter (known as a pharmaceutical company salesman/ fitness instructor among other things ) on his fitness. Certainly worked for him that year!
  22. If he's offered a 2 yr deal or better I'd be surprised if he doesn't take. He's been slowing down for 2 years now and I highly doubt he will get many games for us next year. He's been a fave of mine for a long time now and I'd be sad to see him go but nobody could begrudge him taking it if it's offered. My only concern will be the impact it has on Kosi.
  23. Like every other year..... The trade and draft period.
  24. Agree Doc. If we get another key forward in Fritta will become very dangerous and Hannan will struggle to get a game unless we try him on the wing.
