The most annoying party in all this is the Kangaroos. I'll be so filthy on that club if Melbourne are forced to pick up the slack, should the AFL send us up there in replacement. Having said that, it would be handy if the Roos V Melbourne game at Carrara gets transferred to the MCG! The Kangas will play their 4 games their next year though. Just wild speculation by Caro.

Do memberships matter in NAB cup fixtures?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to deefuture06's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably only get about 15,000 or so to this game. But I remember they had a NAB cup game there this year (Geelong V Richmond) and they only opened half of the gates, meaning that people were still trying to get in at qtr time. Will pay to get there early. -
He's still not as bad as Cameron Ling As long as he can play footy....

If pick 3 in the PSD is such a valuable draft selection, why would we pick up 17/18 year olds who were overlooked 75 times. As long as Sampi shows some dedication on the track over the next couple of weeks, draft him. They guys got talent, he just needs to get his head right. This could be a very valuable long-term selection.

How many games will you attend next year?

Whats wrong with Canberra for a girls weekend -
Agree. I think we should use our pick 3 in the PSD with a player that has AFL experience that can slot into the team from round 1 onwards.

Rumour has it he was 120 kg earlier this year. 30 kilos heavier than his playing weight

Who will be first to don the MFC jumper?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to jacey's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hope that doesn't happen! That smacks of another injury ruined year where we've put the cue in the rack by round 15. Morton - Round 1 V Hawthorn Meeson - Round 1 V Hawthorn Maric - Round 3 V Geelong Grimes - Round 12 V Richmond -

Geelong V Melbourne (NAB Cup) Hawthorn V Melbourne Melbourne V Bulldogs Geelong V Melbourne Melbourne V Fremantle Then off to USA for a couple of years. Might come back for the GF when we participate Normally go to every Vic game plus 1 interstate. -
Good run with injuries will see us finish between 7th-10th, or 11-13 wins An injury run as bad as last year will see us battling out for the spoon. We have to remember that a new coach will not bring instant success...just look at Ross Lyon during the first half of 2007. We may have to be patient in the early rounds of 2008. I know its great to be optimistic and predict us to finish in or near the top 4, but we need to wake up and remember just how pathetic we were last year and that a rise of 10 places up the ladder will be a bloody hard achievement.

Fair enough. But you never know, CAC may pull off a smokey for our pick 4. I hope not, but you never know. The old smoke and mirrors trick.
-
Can anyone forsee the possibility of us bypassing all of Kreuzer, Morton, Cotchin, Masten and Palmer.
-
Good luck asking West Coast to transfer their home game to the Gold Coast However I hope this deal comes to fruition as Kangaroos will no longer be required to play games on the GC, which means that our game against them in round 4 next year would be transferred to the MCG or TD!

Good on James Brayshaw for prolonging the inevitable death of the Kangaroos in Victoria.
-
As long as he doesn't use his smokies on picks 4 and 14 I'll be happy!
-
If Morton slips through to pick 4 (which Jon Ralph suggests- Sun Hun), does that mean the Eagles will take Palmer at pick 3?
-
Out of that list I'd play: Bruce - needs to re-gain from in order to take that step up to elite Carroll - He is basically our only real legit full-back option (along with Holland) so needs the practice Davey - Indifferent 2007 so needs to get out on the park early Jones & Bate - Too young to be rested Wheatley - Defender or winger? We will find out his best position in the pre-season games.
-
Which year are you talking about? Geelong won the NAB Cup in 2006 and they proceeded to finish 10th. The last team to win the NAB Cup and then go on to play finals in the same year was St Kilda of 2004.

God I hope it stays that way!!

Check this out for a 7 week haul from the great man in 1991: Round 15 - Sydney SCG - 8.8 (just his 4th game of AFL) Round 16 - WCE MCG - 6.2 Round 17 - Fitzroy MCG - 6.7 Round 18 - St Kilda Moorabin - 8.5 Round 19 - Carlton PP - 7.4 Round 20 - North MCG - 11.8 Round 21 - Collingwood MCG 5.4 Then check how wayward he was to start 1994 Round 1 - Geelong MCG - 8.8 Round 2 - Hawthorn Waverley - 4.10 Round 3 - BYE Round 4 - Essendon MCG - 5.0 Round 5 - Brisbane MCG - 6.4 23.22 in just 4 matches. He could've had 35 goals in 4 matches!!! THE GUY WAS A FREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Partly agree. A NAB Cup flag would hopefully get a couple of thousand memberships and some confidence within the group after a pathetic 2007. On the other hand you only have to look at the example of Carlton's glory.... Having said that I'm looking forward to going down to Skilled to watch us against Geelong after a long summer waiting for some footy!

I'll guess $70,000-90,000 Pa. Not too low so they can attract some quality Not too high because there would be no way a suburban club could afford to pay a coach triple figures.

who will stand up under the new coach
Bring-Back-Powell replied to brentnall's topic in Melbourne Demons
Chris Johnson - still wondering what he's doing on the list Cameron Bruce - To take that step up to the AFL's elite Ash Sampi - Give the fans enjoyment like Pickett and Farmer did -
ROUND 1 Season opener against Hawthorn. Great way to kick off the season and enjoy easter with a win over that scummy mob. ROUND 7 Revenge against Fremantle at the MCG after Hackland and the Dockers dominated us at the G last year. Game will be significant for me as I'll be heading overseas for a couple of years shortly after this game.
