I’m sure it is legitimately used by some but similarly there are those who use it as a loophole. I know one player for certain (non-MFC) who is in the ‘loophole’ category.

I understand your point about the ring-chasing and instability for some clubs’ supporters (look at the Nets this year) but it is a heap of fun and undeniably increases interest in the sport. It will happen in the AFL, I would put my house on it. The one thing they need to put in place prior is a lottery-draft pick system (which will also happen) - you can’t have a mid-season trade period before it because the tanking would be nek level.

Who would you barrack for if it came to pass? I’ve asked a few Demon-supporting mates from Tassie what they would do if that team comes in and the general response seems to be ‘would love a Tassie team to come into the comp but would still barrack for the Dees’

I also twitch a bit when I see good players linked with clubs other than mine but remember this; We’ve recently won a premiership and we’ve only just fallen out of the top 4 for the first time in something like 2 years. My other immediate thought on this article was that it was more than a little rich for a Hawthorn supporter to ‘take the high ground’ on sticking fat with an under-performing side. Their adult-supporter base was built on late 80s/90s success !
