  1. he has accepted less than his going rate for years at G, as a sign of loyalty and to keep the team together for success. Just can’t see why that would change for 1 year to make $300k more (which gets whacked down to $150k after tax) - he’ll get looked after in business and life immensely down that way in retirement if he stays a 1-club person
  2. Part trade rumour/ part trade anxiety: I worry about Petty’s name coming up during the period. Some murmurings of Adel throwing his name in the mix for McAdam trade (which we all scoffed at) but if you think about it, as a rare, flexible tall who is on the up, I’m pretty sure his market value would be much much higher than his current pay packet… Also you’d expect our plan is to groom him a forward to suit our needs… who’s to say that doesn’t suit him?
  3. The other unusual aspects to consider are; - this isn’t like the risk of Jackson or Kossie getting homesick - there is the lure of being the first marquee player (and very well paid) for the long-awaited new side in their home state - the unknown of compensation for losing the player, but I think general consensus is we would get somewhere between ‘nothing’ and ‘not enough’ (most likely less than we’d be compensated if trading a player back to Perth). If the argument is ‘we need to build for the long term’ then the above two considerations mean it is a hard NO for me. If the argument is ‘our window is open’ and ‘we need to recruit for the now’ then surely we use pick 5 to trade in a more established player that offers better immediate value (over the next 4 years).
  4. Best case scenario is he is a gun (which you would hope for at that pick) but if he is a gun he becomes Tassie’s #1 priority and we get 4 seasons out of a kid… isn’t the goal generally 10yr+ players from a top end draft pick? What am I missing here? edit: wouldn’t a better chance of 10 years out of somewhere perhaps not quite as talented being a better outcome for the club?
  5. Neale polling out of his backside. Got 3 votes in a 20 touch (0 goal, 6 clearance, 70 DT points) game against GWS
  6. Moyle from GC is having a game in this vfl gf geeze
  7. Surely not. His life is pretty well set up on a farm near Geelong and the cats would consider themselves as ‘in the window’ as we are. He’s not leaving for money or success for 1 yr
  8. Sam Power was recently whingeing that their depth has been impacted by having to cough up multiple picks to pay for top end NGA/father-son picks… and then he does this 2 weeks later
  9. Not sure if it the official view at the club but I’ve heard Jed Adams isn’t up to it. Less about talent and more about application
  10. When do Brown and TMac contracts expire? Surprised Brown hasn’t called time - his body consistently fails him. A development role alongside his AFLW role could be the sweetener to take him off the list.
  11. We should go after Luke Jackson from Freo, he looked good and in the right age bracket to replace max in a coupla years. Our pick 5 should get it done.
  12. Incentive for clubs to irresponsibly slash and burn a bad list.
  13. I heard, from a reliable source, that Grundy was far from a professional presence around the club after being axed earlier in the year. Late to training at times, missed strength sessions etc. Wasn’t a complete dummy spit but far from showing the coach he was desperate to be a team player.
  14. No. We need to kick straighter. NEXT.
  15. Saw him in South Yarra two days ago hobbling slowly in a moon boot… hasn’t he been out since early in the season with that injury? the irony of Richmond trying to ship off a bloke with a bung foot to us.
  16. This is spot on. Only 1 team can win each year and we’ve been one of the two most recent teams to achieve that (and remain in the hunt this year). I honestly think the ‘dynasty’ discussion from some at the end of ‘21 has shifted the expectations of many to an unfair territory. as you say, winning flags is bloody hard and a LOT has to go right (and not much has gone right for us last 18 months).
  17. I’m not sure how much local footy you’ve watched or played but I’d recommend you stick fat with the AFL if you’re trying to avoid shenanigans and bad habits
  18. That’s a better way to put it. Maybe one for Charlie though
  19. Life is too short to hold such a deep grudge against such a great game. I definitely understand the resentment against the bad stuff but the good things about our game override that, for mine. Ignore the footy media, unless we win of course
  20. Maybe it’ll start that way and the back up is swing Tommo onto him
