  1. Vaguely remember hearing he was on a tour in South America or somewhere like that and he came to the realisation he didn’t want to be doing it anymore...
  2. We hold the most important card. The right to send him to the draft/PSD if he doesn’t want to stay.
  3. Only playing with one arm feels an appropriate handicap for Clarry in this era of equalisation. Apparently only needs one arm to handball anyway
  4. Theory is it is would be a mutual decision. Pies look great without him and he is occupying a fair bit of their salary cap. Upside for him is arguably limited although the chance to team up with an ageing Gawn in a side deep in a premiership window is attractive. Dees could probably get away with paying him less than we would Jacko (with Collingwood’s help) and we’d still end up with draft capital from the Jackson transaction.
  5. If Jackson decides to move on, I reckon we could get Brodie Grundy on the cheap… ask the filth to pay a huge chunk of his contract too.
  6. For the regular Casey watchers: anything they’ve appeared to ask Rivers to focus on in his time at Casey? Is he playing different positions? Recognise Jordon’s development on the wing and Gus down back has created one fewer spot in the backline but curious to understand what they are working on development-wise with him
  7. Wasn’t it reported his club of choice was Melbourne but due to Melbourne not being close to getting a deal done with Freo for him he pivoted his choice to Carlton (whom Freo could get a deal done with)?
  8. Speculation only (rare for this site) but my guess is Jackson’s mgmt have asked Freo & Melb to see if a suitable trade could be organised - if the two parties are too far apart he’ll sign a short term contract with Melbourne. No way his manager will want to put him into a scenario where there is any talk of Melbourne possibly pushing him to the draft.
  9. You’re overestimating the power Freo have in this deal. Brodie/Acres plus picks (which wouldn’t be top 10 unless they trade players) and Melbourne have the right to force him into the pre-season draft where West Coast will have an early pick. If his service to the club had been 5+ yrs (like the Dangerfield scenario) I’m sure the club would support him more to make sure he gets to his club of choice but not for a guy just out of his rookie contract when there is another suitor in his hometown. Remember Cerra last yr when Freo suggested that Luke Jackson was the only way that trade would get done (and we quickly pulled out)? Expect a similarly bullish demand from us this time around.
  10. Sammy will sleep well tonight. He did what the team needed from him AND he has probably never worked so bloody hard on his life.
  11. Sammy will sleep well tonight. He did what the team needed from him AND he has probably never worked so bloody hard on his life.
  12. Another conspiracy/rumour floating around is that Goodwin wasn’t keen on Jackson flying to Adelaide because he was concerned that if he saw WA on the in-flight map it would make him homesick and tilt his decision away from Melbourne. Both theories entirely possible.
  13. I wouldn’t count on it. They make more money via ballot (and they are still trying to cover significant covid losses) and there are a lot of MCC members who prefer the ballot, even though the noisier minority would have you believe this isn’t the case
  14. We’ve reached 2,000 posts in this thread. If we can get another 4,500 posts we’ll have as many Jacko-contract-posts as Essendon have days since their last final win
  15. Andrew Brayshaw is currently top 5 in the comp and will be top 2 within 12 months. Freo would never let him go but I would enjoy seeing Freo fans sweat bullets if Jackson signals his intent to leave and Brayshaw is top of Melbourne’s shopping list.
  16. Surely Gawn out means we are even more likely to lower eyes and look for a mobile target inside 50 so does that mean this is the game we introduce Van R for Mitch Brown (Weid for Gawn)? Brown/Brown/Weid feels unbalanced and invites the bomb-and-hope that we don’t want. Van R introduces a different dynamic at ground level. Edit: although MFC style is normally to announce a debutant well ahead of teams being announced and given we are 30 hours out from game time perhaps this is now unlikely
  17. IF we lose four in a row AND win the flag; we will be the only team to lose 4 in a row AND and have two players get in a punch on at Entrecôte in the same season. I never thought I’d see the day.
  18. His marking game is off the boil at the moment. Come to think of it, none of them have been able to catch the thing in a contest last 4 weeks. How do they all lose that ability simultaneously??
  19. I’d heard a rumour about Harmes to Richmond or Norf (longer contract) before this Jay Z comment so there might be something going on there…
  20. Chance May has taken himself down to Casey to watch the 2’s today? Perhaps a thoughtful gesture to show appreciation for a large part of the club he seemingly doesn’t value.
  21. Maysie clearly a bit of a ‘lad’ - loves to take the [censored] out of his mates, loves a beer and isn’t short on confidence. Gets away with it most of the time though because a) not an easy thing to confront b) footballers who lead like ’generals’ on the ground generally get praised, not told off and c) most of the time it is probably harmless. But he clearly has a lack of empathy which they need to address head on now. The Melksham comments, the sharp feedback he clearly gives to players on the ground and even an unprovoked joke he made on social media about Jake Lever needing to shave his pubic hair. You can just tell he doesn’t really understand how his comments/actions impact some people. I’ve experienced a similar person in change rooms before…. People just let it happen because the person was a good player and they didn’t want to challenge him because it would be awkward and would probably result in the bullying being focused on you… didn’t mean people weren’t desperate for it to stop though.
  22. Goody locking in to 2024 will help him make the decision on a 2yr extension. Helps him justify why 2 years without saying ‘maybe I want to move home one day’
  23. Lever ‘late test’ I saw on Twitter. Not a great sign
  24. Death, taxes and journos accusing Melbourne players of getting ahead of themselves. How long before the first Mt Buller joke?
