Recruiting quality interstaters poses a risk… we’ve lost Hogan, Jackson, Thompson, the Wiz, maybe Petty and others in my lifetime. Not saying you don’t recruit kids from interstate (there are plenty that stay) but people on here fascinated with the idea of the two Tassie boys at the top end of this year’s draft - I can’t see anything but a lose/lose outcome from a Dees’ perspective… the lure of representing their state’s first ever side (+ the $$$) will be far more powerful than Harry Petty wanting to return to the city where he went to boarding school and where his sister plays netball.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 11
Is the growing consensus that we’re no longer realistically after pick 1 but rather packaging #6 & #11 for North’s #3 + something late to get Brown?

North are inept but they’re not that inept that they trade away pick 3 for an upgrade in the teens

Trade Rumours 2023
Slowly getting the hang of trade-time-list-manager-code: “I don’t want to go into the specifics” = we know less than the public know “We haven’t spoken to any other clubs about him” = lots of cryptic texts though, often with an overuse of the word ‘mate’ to cleverly disguise the fact I hate all other list managers “He’s a required player” = problem child trying to escape, asked the fitness guys to give him a torturing off-season plan to teach him a lesson “Contracted/not going anywhere” = we’re going to make you pay through the nose for him “We’ll sit down with his manager” = player has cracked the sads and isn’t responding to our calls/text messages and has left the team WhatsApp chat “We think he has a strong future ahead of him” - bloke is a jet and we can’t believe those muppets gave him to us for peanuts “Happy for him to explore his options” = happily take a future 9th round pick for him “We’ve got a strong draft hand” = I’ve done my job, don’t f*#% it up recruitment team “We’ll sit down with Essendon over the next week and have some sensible conversations” - Dodoro is the worst bloke I’ve ever met and this deal will not get done

Tom Hawkins
I had said in another thread that there is just no way this guy plays anywhere else but the fact he happily told Josh Jenkins - who he knew would share it on radio - there was issues/deadlock in negotiations suggests to me he is either trying to force Geelong’s hand or soften the impact for Cats supporters if he were to leave. I hope the latter - we would be a better side with him in it next year.

Trade Rumours 2023
Chandler is 23 years (Roo is 20) old and plays exclusively as a forward who struggled to get near it back half of the year… if he ran out of gas I am officially worried. edit; for reference Bobby Hill and Toby Bedford are also 23 years old and those two were in peak form come finals.

Farewell James Harmes
This is getting boring. James Harmes has played occasionally (more like rarely) as a tagger in the past 5 years. Maxy swings down back sometimes… does that make him a backman?

Warming up in the foyer. Unclear whether he’ll make it through the doors or not before the end of the evening.

Don’t understand the Tom Morris vitriole in regards to the Clarry stuff. I much prefer his narrative on the subject than someone like Mick Warner

End of Round 2 compensation pick… i think that feels fair

Harrison Petty
The article is flimsy, because Morris is hedging his bets, but I posted my concerns about Petty a week ago (or so) after hearing the club wasn’t entirely confident he wouldn’t request a trade in the short term.

Trade Rumours 2023
Their trading forecasts are mostly laughable. They’re just looking for a segment to fill time and to bait people for conversation (which again fills time). His trade value will be determined by the perceived ‘severity’ of his issues (which the guys at trade radio don’t know yet) and how much of his salary Melbourne are prepared to pay (which they also don’t know yet). I am not a list manager but my guess is if Melbourne’s plan is to snare top end talent in the draft they might be prepared to pay some of his salary for a fee years to maximise the trade return but if the plan is to go after a tier 1 KPF then we’ll be less willing to cover any of his salary and the return will be a fair bit lower
