And they’ve got an incredible core of young talent in LDU, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Larkey (with McKercher and Duursma to come)
  2. Personally, I’d take more injuries ala-2019 over the Oliver/Smith car crash we’re witnessing and Petty near-requesting a trade.
  3. And we’re not the only ones to have had a mare of an off-season in recent times - thinking back to that one and then Wet Toast and even Collingwood 2020, history isn’t on our side in terms of shifting the tide come season proper
  4. I’m not particularly TV/tech savvy but I am curious; - are any FTA games on any channels broadcast in 4K or just HD on the HD channels? - is our forward entry any better in 4K?
  5. I personally think it is fair to label it ‘the pre-season from hell’
  6. The concept of a ‘premiership window’ is dated… Collingwood finished 17th in 2021 and won a premiership 2 years later. Geelong won a premiership in 2009 and have been thereabouts ever since. let’s just hope we can bash through the utterly shocking hand we’ve been dealt (and contributed to ourselves) in the past 18 months and do something special.
  7. Gus reportedly hit another golfer in the head with a stray tee shot yesterday (drawing blood!). Early speculation that the victim was in fact Bruz was quickly ruled out when it was confirmed the incident took place at Royal Melbourne, not Moe pitch and putt.
  8. Or they back themselves to trade in/FA a May replacement in the event Petty stays frwd (or leaves) and existing stock doesn’t make it.
  9. I am guilty of pot-shotting the Socials/comms before. On reflection though, all I really want is for my footy club to be really good at footy, not social media and comms. The person doing the comms is likely on a fairly low salary so I think we need to cut them a bit (lot) of slack. We also aren’t ‘owed’ anything by the club. When you buy a membership is one of the bullet points ‘gold class social media and comms’? I get that it is frustrating but we aren’t owed anything by the club so I think we need to chill a bit.
  10. One of the great ovals to watch footy from - the view is amazing. Went to a local match there this season - the surface was like a goat track, hope they’re taking it easy!
  11. Look forward to listening to this. I assume you probed on whether he has an over-possessive mother?

Yep this is about right but I’d say the feasibility study is more about creating an independent business case for government funding. Caulfield want $$ (lots, apparently) so they’ve both agreed that a feasibility study to ‘determine the benefits to the community’ is a great way to lobby the government for said $$. Smart.
  13. Not sure if mentioned elsewhere but the entire team went and served food at a place for the homeless on Monday. Appears ‘operation humility’ is underway and I quite like that it hasn’t been widely reported and isn’t being leveraged as a PR exercise.
  14. Yeah 100%. There is no shortage of generic, faceless governance (including more ‘digital resources’ than anyone needs) but an absolute drought of meaningful engagement. I’ve never seen anyone from the AFL at any match I’ve been involved in (nor heard of their presence at others) - would’ve thought a few more heads out and about in the community would aid them better in the long term than the white-collar head office types revising academy drafting rules on an annual basis. The reason they leave the academy development stuff to the clubs is that they’re unwilling to solve the problem themselves.
  15. In a draft-based professional code we should not be relying on club’s to nurture talent (and protect talent from other codes) at the grass-roots level. The AFL should have been investing more of their growing pool of funds on a meaningful, centralised grass-roots system across the country, rather than lining the pockets of its executive. As a junior footy coach in Melbourne’s west, my first-hand experience is the AFL is completely asleep at the wheel, and completely absent. I’ve never spoken to or sighted anyone from the league (nor has my club actively sought feedback) on the risks to our game, the first one being kids (who fall into an ‘nga bracket’ and also those who don’t) fleeing en masse to both soccer and basketball. We know why but I have a good feeling the AFL don’t. Fix this and we’re not sitting here arguing about rules around academy picks. Over to you Dillon.
  16. SEN’s young core of journalists is 15th (of 15) on my list of Australian sports radio stations
  17. Kalani jumping all over Luke Jackson in the future would be nice thank you. Just another reminder of Freo losing Jeff White
  18. By the time Kalani is ready for us the AFL will have changed the father son rule and we’ll have to give up a decade of 1st round picks to access him
  19. I’m not asking him to train the house down, but to show up early would have been a huge sign of commitment to his teammates and the club and that he is going over and above what has been asked of him. So yes, Clarry is one I was hoping would make a statement in a November. He still can and he may well be working on himself in a positive way this week but I can’t help but feel disappointed we didn’t see him back at the club early with Max & Trac & Fritta & Jake & others who weren’t required to be there.
  20. I agree with Volcano on very little, but I do agree it is a missed opportunity to make a strong statement to your teammates and to your supporters that you’re leaving no stone unturned in overcoming recent disappointments/let-downs.
  21. After the club’s train wreck off-season (and post-season), it would’ve been nice to see some more of the 4+ years players back at the club. Clarry in particular, in fact I am actually surprised he didn’t make a statement by coming back early.
  22. Just out of shot, arguing with Selwyn
  23. Was expecting lots of ‘stoked’ and ‘super excited’ and ‘get around it’ and 18yo kid with a mullet and rude sports sunnies. None of that. Great listen, he sounds like a gem, hoping he can play like one too!
