2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Cal’s phantom has dropped. For some reason( my fault I’m sure) I can’t add links. If somebody else would put it up that would be great. His top 30 is a fair bit different from anything else I seen. Showing just how even and deep this years draft is.

It might be smart to get a larger portion of Brayshaw’s contract off the books next year if we have the space to do so. Otherwise it will continue to be a factor for years to come as the AFL pays less and less. Gus maybe open to renegotiating if he gets a lumps some next year.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I really hope we hold onto Petty- key position player of his quality and age are extremely difficult to come by. Should be one of the best defenders in the comp in the coming years. But the longer we go without him signing a contract the less likely it is that he resigns. An argument could be made that it would be foolish for him to sign now after we have lowered his wage value by playing him out of position. But given how keen he was to leave last year I’d be very nervous come trade period if he hasn’t resigned.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Read somewhere the Crows would love to get Draper at pick 5 if he’s still there. Local lad who’s very highly rated. Not sure they will be keen to let pick 5 go if they think he will still be there.

The 'Mouse Pack'
I haven’t been Tim Lambs greatest fan of late but credit where credits due- I do remember him saying in an interview about the time all the mouse pack was drafted that we internally recruit groups of talented young players in burst over a two year period to bring them through together.

CASEY: Rd 15 vs Brisbane Lions
Jed Adams with 6 disposals today. Which is his average over the past 4 weeks. In a defence that seeing a lot of the ball. For those that watch Casey closely is he carrying an injury or just struggling to make it?

Mac Andrew
We do tend to dwell on that draft quite a bit. Just had a look at Cal top 30 draft ratings a couple of weeks before the draft. He had Curnow one spot ahead of Sam at 8&9. This was a week before Curnow was done for drink driving and I think there was question marks over his attitude. Hipwood was 14 and Harry and Ben were 21&24. He also had Clayton Oliver at 11. We took him at pick 4. Cal had another tall in Josh Schache rated as the 4th best in the draft. Of course we with hindsight we would have been better taking one of those other talls before Sam but we also could have taken Schache instead of Oliver. In 2017 we picked Spargo at pick 29. Tom De Koning went the pick after. You can always look back and say we could have picked player x instead of player y, can’t always get them right and picking Sam seems to be in line with the player ratings at the time.

Don’t love the idea of bringing King in. He’s often injured, doesn’t terrify defenders. Who here was concerned about him before Saint game?! Few if any I’d say. Hasn’t live up to the hype or wages, turns 24 in a few days so is long enough in the system that you know what your going to get. Reportedly on a mil a year so you would have to pay more than that. If you willing to pay that sort of coin you would have to pay big with draft capital too. On top of that you would have to pay JVR the same as he will be as good and probably better.

Trade Targets
We cannot go another season with Max as our only real ruck option. We have made a mess of bringing options over the past 2 years. Verrall needs more time to develop and Fullarton doesn’t sound like he’s going to make the grade. Not to mention the Grundy fiasco. Don’t think Max has missed a game since his knee injury early last year. Foolish to hope he can go another season and a bit without injury. This year’s draft is full of mids and is meant to have a fair bit of dept I’d rather we draft mids. If our recent trading is anything to go by we are much better at drafting than trading.

Someone suggested Jack Silvagni earlier in the thread. I don’t mind it. He will be very restricted for game time next year competing with Pittonet and De Koning for ruck and their forward line is well stacked with talent. Just off an ACL, there was lots of speculations before he signed 2 year contact last year that he might leave. Would be able to give Max a chop out and allow JVR to stay forward. Wouldn't think he would cost much either.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
Give him a run against the Suns in a few weeks. Be interesting to see how he would go on MacAndrew.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
The Suns have pick 20( one of Norths end of first round free hits) which they will probably be willing to trade giving they have 3 first round picks and a academy player rated in the top 10.

PREGAME: Rd 17 vs West Coast
We were top 4 this time last year and he was sorely missed come finals. You’re right, he’s a top pro with a great attitude I’m sure he’s chomping at the bit to get out there. I still feel that the team has let him down a bit with current ladder position. If we had managed to put 2 more wins on the board( any 2 of the blues, WC or Lions) then it would be a very different situation he’s returning too. Hope he plays this weekend.

2024 Marsh AFL National Championships
Thanks Chaser- I was trying ( with little success) to stream it through my phone onto TV via that page. I’ll try it with the laptop tonight.

2024 Marsh AFL National Championships
Anybody got a good link to watch replays of the champs? My Foxtel box isn’t recording at the min. Have tried it from the AFL app but it keeps saying the stream is over 2 mins in. Not up on YouTube yet either. Im not exactly a wiz with technology but it seems harder than it should be.

NON-MFC: Round 16
Good to see the Trac incident didn’t have any effect on Moore- still only too happy to put his knee into another players back.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Brisbane
Agree Jaded. A slightly different approach to our fitness program might be in order. We have had the Burgess philosophy for about 5 years now. Change is as good as a rest. The comp is all about the survival of the fittest now. Rivers is looking good in the middle but needs a bigger tank to play there week in week out.

Harrison Petty
Thought he played well last night just a shame he couldn’t convert. He’s an emotional big lad and the goal scoring is between the ears for him. He’s conversion rate was much better last year. Could still be a cracking forward if he can sort his kicking much like Harry McKay has this year. Failing that he will still be a very good defender. Sign the contact Harry. 🤞

GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane
Not super confident we will get up tonight but hopeful we will be competitive. If we can’t get up things I’m hoping to see are- Clarry finding a way to be effective with a tag. Either going to Neale as others have suggested or going to half forward and having an impact. Rivers having a good game in the middle. Kolt to have a big game. Rising star nomination would be the dream scenario but just building on last weeks performance and getting a bit more involved for longer and I’d be happy. AMW to start and not look out of place. Doesn’t need to play a blinder just play his role and build his confidence. Go Dees

Are we witnessing a re-build by stealth
I believe I read in another thread that the player, club and AFL are all waiting on Sport Integrity Australia completing their investigation.

Are we witnessing a re-build by stealth
No we are not. We have taken about all we have at Casey and there’s bugger all left. If we had the quality there then Casey would be winning a lot more games this year. We have a lot of work to do to if we are to get both lists in better shape. If we don’t get out trading and picks spot on over the next couple of windows we will be in the familiar territory of being bottom dwellers when an expansion team comes in.

Despite his form issues so far this season, I’d love if Harry signed new contract. Be a nice little pick me up if both him and Langers signed on the dotted line sometime soon. @Dannyz any updates on either of them?

This is the problem with attracting free agents- you have to pay them more than they are worth both in terms of dollars and length. I wonder if what’s happened with Gus and Clarry have us a little gun shy of offering big long term contracts.
