Certainly not writing the Kolt off at all. Yes both of ye are probably right, we pushed all our chips in on Reid and lost. Hindsight is 20/20 but maybe we should have had a deal in place for Reid before trading away valuable picks.
-
That would be an awesome trade window the problem is we don’t have the draft capital to make it happen. Most clubs will be trying to buy into this draft which will make it expensive to do so. Whoever we bring in as a ruck needs to be of high enough quality that we can win without Max so that going to cost us a pick. Key Position players are in demand so even if Edward’s hasn’t played a game he will still cost some sort of pick. Only way I can see us having the draft capital needed for your plan is if we trade out a player who has value.
-
Think Rivers definitely has a role to play in the middle. I do agree that we need to bring in other midfield options and I want us to draft at least one quality mid this year. Problem is that it’s fairly rare that a draftee has a big impact on the middle in his first or second year. Perhaps we can draft one that can play back flanker to fill in for Rivers and McVee. Xavier Lindsay perhaps. If we could somehow get him and Langford or Lalor I’d be stoked

Out of contract next year……
-
Mac Andrew playing forward tonight. Has kicked 3 so far and is doing some rucks.
-
Pies were paying a $300k of that contract and we traded him for much less than we paid to move up 3 draft spots. AA ruckman who’s a huge part of why Swans are top of the ladder. We have a 32 year old warrior in Max playing on one leg because we have zero back up rucks. Bigger picture.

Use the next couple of weeks to rest a couple. Viney for a week and Clarry for a week. Try and be in as good as shape as possible for the filth in the last game.
-
Just to be clear- I’m not having a crack at the Kolt. I like him, puts himself about, not afraid to tackle has good attitude and seems to have a good kick. My point was that we gave up picks 27 & 35 to move from 14 to 11 when we may have got him with our original pick and if not we could have had Darcy Wilson. We have lots of holes to fill and not much draft capital to fill them. Just for a reference point we received picks 46 & a future second ( currently 38) for Grundy. A blind man can see that’s poor trading.
-
I generally like trading up- but it has to be at reasonable cost. That one felt like overs. We were the only ones to travel and meet his family. Reasonable chance he would have been there at our original pick.
-
What was more interesting was giving up picks 27 & 35 to move up 3 places and get the Kolt. Darcy Wilson went at our original pick. We could have traded those picks into this years draft and put ourselves into a much better position.
-
Apart from Jeffo we have no kids. Cupboard is bare.
-
Yeah same here Gawndy. But when you look at how bad Casey are travelling it’s looking a bit grim.
-
Dogs off a 5 day break look 2 gears above us.
-
How did Jed Adam’s go? Seemed to be getting a few mentions early?!
-
Back up Ruck perhaps? Can’t go into another season with all our hopes relying on a 33 year old Max staying fit and healthy.
-
Not sure their 5 day break will be enough to get us up. Just had a look at Dogs previous game off a 5 day break. Lost to the Swans at Marvel 88-102 in round 11. Not bad as the Swans were flying then.
-
Our future should be able to get a late first round of Brisbane for it. Given the evenness of this draft I’d be delighted with a top 10 and late first round pick with one or two picks a bit later where hopefully JT can find another gem.
-
I don’t think there will be much difference in the draw between bottom 6 and middle 6. Comp is very even now and the a lot of the teams in the bottom 6 will improve next year. Double ups are always important but amount of 5&6 day breaks are probably more important these days.

This 100%. More goals than Petty, McAdam and Fullarton combined. I suggested him last year but was shot down as people said he was lazy and soft. He’s averaging 3.1 tackles per game which is elite for a forward.

Have you factored in bringing in Kentfield in the mid season draft. I assume we will extend him for next year as he a project type of player and would have to have at least one preseason. So we could be looking at only 4 list spots unless we trade or payout contracted players Also if AMW is promoted off the CatB rookie list doesn’t that mean we have to bring in another CatB this year or can we increase the number of players on the A list?

I’m a bit on the fence with Cumming. Great age, skill set that we need. Would be best 22 for sure. But he’s had 3 soft tissue injuries this year( quad, calf and hamstring) and is out for the rest of the home and away at least. Salem looks done for the season as well. Hopefully he can get his body right for next season. But if both Cumming and Salem both have same amount of injuries next year that’s a fair bit of our salary cap going to waste and clogging up our list.

I’ve been thinking the past couple of weeks that this would be the best way to give Jeffo a game. Tmac wasn’t great tonight but he has been good. Manage him for a game or two and put Petty back where I think we will need him most next year.
-
Never mind Houston. Go all out for Callaghan. Going to be an awesome player and would be would be perfect for us.
-
Well done Kolt👍🏻. Interesting that we are locking away two first year players that still have two and a half years to run on their first contract. Making sure all our sums add up before offering a new player big four year contract perhaps?
-
I get that Tim Lambs job isn’t easy. Just look at the two players we are currently being linked too. Houston and Isaac Cumming. Both would fill a need for us but it’s easy to make a case against both of them. Houston could be seen as too expensive given his age and we have other spots to fill. Cumming has had 3 soft tissues injuries this year and will miss the rest of the home and away season. If we were to trade for him and he’s often injured then Tim Lamb screwed up again. If he goes somewhere else and plays most game then Tim also got it wrong. Hard to win. But to win premierships you need to be get you recruitment right the majority of the time. We haven’t done that over the past few years and we can’t afford to get it wrong any longer.
