The Draft Pick Upgrade Thread
I have posted on another thread that I would be open to splitting pick 5 should JT think we can pick up two quality players a bit later in the first round. However with the reported depth of this draft I wanted to look at our chances of trading in or up in the later parts of the first round and early second. Most clubs will be keen to do the same so the price of picks will be expensive. Going by our pick trading last year we don’t seem to mind over paying. We are sitting in a reasonable position to trade- should we want to trade our F1st team will assume it will be a top 10 pick next year giving us an advantage over any team playing finals this year. We also have picks 38,45 and 51 this year which are decent for teams looking for points for F/S and academy picks. Here’s some picks I think could be on the table Lions pick 14- they have F/S in the top 5 Suns picks 13, 20,26,34(also have pick 6) they have academy player coming in and should def be willing to trade those last 3 picks. Essendon pick 28- academy player in mid first round calculations Then there always side deals- should the Swans try to move up they have picks 18&19 and maybe interested in trade one out to improve their hand. Freo could also be willing to part with pick 17(they also have 9&10) to load up for next year when they are rumoured to be in for Chad Warner So as you can see there’s plenty of scope to improve our draft hand this year, fingers crossed we manage to nail it.

The Cooper Hynes Thread
Most of the players we have been linked with at pick 5 are goal scoring mids who I assume will start as half forwards for us same as the Kolt has this year and Sparrow often rest there. I wonder if we do go for a second mid if we would be better with someone suited to half back with good kicking skills? Lindsay would complement our team better I think.

Trade Targets
I used to think about one of them a lot when I was younger.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
You probably right. We certainly could do with an A grade mid coming through the ranks. I guess it all depends on how JT views the draft. Given this draft is stacked with mids and is super even and deep- Cal has said it’s most even he has ever seen, there will be gems found right through this draft and if we give JT two picks inside the top 15 I’m sure he will find one and hopefully two. The other reason I think we should consider splitting is we don’t have a lot of draft capital, we currently have 5,38,45,51 &61 assume we get 25 back for Nibbler. IMO we need a mature ruck, and a mature mid as a min to be traded in. I think we need two more mids via trade or draft and a small forward. Thats a lot of holes to fill and if we blow pick 5 on one player then we don’t have a heap of good picks after that.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 5
This is why I’m not against splitting pick 5- we’d be able to pick two from the following- Lindsay, Travaglia, Berry, Hynes or Tauru or anybody that slides or JT really fancies.

Trade Targets
The thing is we need another Dunstan who can make Casey competitive again. If we want our younger players to improve while at Casey we need to play to a decent standard and similar game still to the first. Brodies racking up great number in the WAFL. I see it as him and Sparrow competing for same spot.

Mac Andrew every day of the week for me. Can’t think of a player that would dovetail any better with Max. Can play back, ruck and forward. Didn’t have his best game against us but he going to be a star. The $12m over 5 years is just his agent trying to hype him up. Def need mids Peatling and Brodie would be very welcome too.

Farewell Alex Neal-Bullen
This story leaking and then way we have handled it really hurts us from negotiating point of view but if we don’t get the McAdam pick back for Nibbler as a minimum then the recruitment team really should be shown the door.

Jake Stringer
Don’t you think we have already suffered enough this season and already this off season?! If he hasn’t got seriously fit by this stage of his career he’s never going to.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I wonder was he giving a tagging role again this week so ?!

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
GC currently have 6,13,20,26,34 and 46. They are stacked with later picks to come academy player. If they use 13 on and use 6 at the draft they still have more than enough points. They might try to move up from 6 to get better player and be sure to get in front of any early bid for Lombard. They will be a big player again and might be worth us trading for one of their second rounders. I think I’d rather trade out our future second rather than first if we could bumble it up with a pick or two from this year and get 20 or 26.

Trade Targets
I think we have to bring in a mature ruck I wonder if we could get Pittonet as part of the deal for Trac. If Trac goes to Carlton I think they will be a massive chance for the flag next year so most players that are under contract will be reluctant to leave and come to us. But if they tell Pittonet that TDK will be playing in front of him next year then maybe he could be convinced. Same goes for Cerra- if he’s told that Trac coming in means he won’t be getting a game then he may be more interest in a move. Not sure I want him but they could trade him out and get some capital in.

That’s where I’m at with it too. I think that’s fair market value. If nobody can come up with that he stays. I think it’s very possible too.

The word legend tends to get thrown around a lot this days but big Maxy is well and truly deserving of it. Legend of a player and of a man.

KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
I’m normally quite conservative with player valuations in terms of draft picks. But not with Kossie, he’s box office, puts bums on seats, great player just hitting his prime. Was pick 12. Is worth more than a top 5 pick alone. Trading him would feel a bit like selling our soul.
-
KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
I guess it all depends if Trac leaves or not. I want us to go to the draft this year but not with 5/6 first rounders. If we can’t get a quality player coming back the other way then Kossie might have to see out his contract.

KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
I hear what you’re saying, but we can’t trade out that much experience and class in one window. We would be fast tracking our way to be in Richmond’s position when Tassie comes in.

Welcome to Demonland: Max Gawn
That guy is my hero!!!

Welcome to Demonland: Ricky Mentha
I see Lindsay did his PCL over the weekend and may not take part in the combine. If we got a second first round pick I’m hoping we pick him up. Mentha made the Rookie me central team of the week this week too

Does the club need a full and external review?
No need for a review. We brought one of the all blacks in for a chat🤯

Does the club need a full and external review?
100%, thought we should have one before the Roffey interview debacle but now it’s a no brainer for me.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
Not even a marquee player- any player or staff that ends up in ICU due to a work related incident should have the club leader get in touch and offer support. That’s what a good culture is all about. Offering support in times of need. God I’m angry.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
I think this is two fold- not being in constant contact with Trac and his folks during the first few weeks and since word has come out that he is unhappy is unacceptable from our leader. But to go on live radio radio when the Trac story is the main topic of discussion and not having the intelligence to think that you 1- should speak to the Trac beforehand 2- know that you would be asked if you’ve spoken to him. shows she has NFI what she’s doing. Bye Bye Kate

When Faced with Adversity, You Fight Back and Win
I’m with you but I’m not sure the team, recruitment team or footy department is. Richardsons comments about needing to get older not younger at a bit of an alarm bell for me. Our aging stars are not going to want to put the cue in the rack while they finish their careers. Will goody survive long enough to see even a mini rebuild through? Will our recruitment team put their hands up and say they have made too many mistakes over the past 3 years and start a rebuild? If Trac stays do you think he will be happy to hear we are going to the draft to build for the future not the now? Like I said I’m with you in that it’s time to go to the draft hard. I think JT is the one good edge we have over other teams. I wouldn’t trade out our F1st though. It could be a very good pick. As an example if we could get Essendon's pick 8, 28 and F1st for Trac and 38$42- I’d take use 5, 8 and 25 at the draft( perhaps spitting 8) use the others for some mature players. Then next year we would have 2 first rounders and our two future first to go all out and try to bring in a couple of guns like Butters, MacAndrew and Callaghan.

I’d love him at the club in some capacity. Talks more sense than anybody else in the media. Add on- I’d love to bring him in now to do a critically analyses of our list as a starting point.
