What about Port Adelaide who are in dire need of a backline rebuild? Perhaps he doesn’t want to bring the focus onto the club where ine of their players in Butters is a Victorian. Right now I’d do Pick 11 + Petty for Butters.
-
Yeah nahhh. T Mac is cooked.
-
To me Darling changes our F2 to F1 with 6,11 on the table. That’s it- take it or leave it

WC need to look at our offer for Pick 1. Next Norf's 2&3, which they wont trade, we have the best offer. They would be mad to recruit Reid, not because he is a gun or the go home factor. They are in a world of hurt and their club has not even bottomed out yet. Expect WC to be the next Norf asking for priority picks in the next 2 years. They need to stock up on multiple players not a superstar player. We are no guarantee to finish top 4 next year either so im not gung-ho on throwing our F1 without something coming back our way. If Gus does retire and Oliver is out for lunch chunks of the season, we will be battling for top 8.

I’m surprised we didnt offer the F3 we got for Harmes. They can go and get stuffed. F2 is too high IMO.
-
Agreed, its the first round compensation for Gresham that I'm questioning. He belongs in the 3rd round with Harmes. Maybe, just maybe we accepted unders for Harmes.
-
No, Shut the thread down. 😀
-
What a joke. Harmes is just as good and has a premiership medal.
-
Is Petty a FA or RFA at the end of this contract. It would have to be a RFA right? Still way to young.
-
Silly.
-
We have two years to go. No need to rush these things.
-
Why ? You can take a view that come to MFC and you’ll be playing sometime in the VFL… I wouldn’t want that either. Doesn't help seeing premiership players like JJ and Harmes leaving either.
-
Trading Petty only works if: 1) we take a KPD ( Curtain/ O Sullivan) this year and have faith in our youth - Turner etc. 2) We have a pretty good feeling that one of TMac / BBB will be able to play the 1st/2nd tall. 3) we have a good feeling that we will secure an out of contract KPF next year although we don’t seem to have any draft capital to make this work.
-
That’s just the thing though. Everything you say is right, however can this be transferred to the big league? Does he have the right traits? Strong work ethic, two way running, 2nd efforts etc, elite fitness, strength. Only those in the inner sanctum would have a true read on this stuff as you can only see so much on the field.
-
Would you want to publicise it though? Or would you try to work out a deal first to get him mostly off your books without having picks come into play? If it wasn’t an issue, why not honour the contract? It’s a lot to keep for depth - i get that - but I think that they are overextended for 2024 and we may some action in the coming days. Not a rumour - just a gut feel.
-
I don’t think the behinds make the highlight reel 😂
-
I heard it was only $1M year one and that over four years worked out to be more like $600K per year
-
Neither have I but I was just saying if I was In their shoes, I wouldn’t advertise the state of the cap as GCS did. The precedent of a salary dump is now there. Nobody needs Haynes at that figure. Hell, not many clubs would go near him for even 500K pa. Can GWS cover 750K+?I’m guessing probably not, so their real position will become clearer the closer we get to Wed. If it’s not dire as they intimate, then he probably stays. If no picks are involved clubs would expect GWS to cover 900K minimum.
-
With the new CBE what was the increase in total cap spend? Can’t we just give that to Petts? I recall that not many existing contracts were bound to the CBE increases.
-
That we know of. If they can keep a lid on it they try to control the state of play. If it got out, then nobody touches it without pick 6 on the table. I think I recall hearing that they would be open to covering part of his salary already. So I think this is one which will become more interesting as we approach the deadline and GWS position becomes a little clearer. Curious - what happens if the trade period ends and GWS have overextended?
-
I dunno. I don’t see him as top 10 let alone top 5 highlights there. I’m no expert and only go by what I see, but I wouldn’t be moving up the draft for 190cm 3rd tall. Its a brutal industry but its not what we need right now. Has he played midfield? Wing ? Any outside role? I guess I just look at his older brother and think of the colossal [censored] show in 5 years time id he was to turn out the same. If the experts say next Nat Fyfe, then by all means go for it. It is such a different game at the next level. I would hate to be a scout.
-
Our realistic next target is GWS Pick 7/16 for Haynes salary dump. Maybe give GWS our F1 to sweeten the deal and secure 7. Can adjust % salary dump to suit the conditions as well. 6+7 gets Reid I reckon. We hold 11 for O’Sullivan. F3 (WB) for Fullerton, 41 for Brown. Not sure on McAdams.
-
Ok what’s next?
-
I think that’s a win for us as we were never going to be holding onto the pick anyway
