Change coming to the Academy System
Gawndy the Great replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't forget Brisbane as well, who will likely snare Ashcroft #2 which is another top 5 pick. However I am for all the F/S and academy changes. They were completely out of touch and have given many sides an incredibly unfair advantage. In some cases i don't actually think its enough. Situations like Ashcroft / Darcy where they are high end talent need to be treated as special case. The nominated clubs should get first dibs to preserve the unique aspect of our game but for a top 4 team (in the respective draft year) to get a free hit is just not right. Perhaps a special clause in addition to a pick in the same round for clubs in the top 4/8 accessing players in the top 10 or 1st round to make it a bit fairer. For example a premier matching a bid for a F/S at pick 1 would require two first round picks to match instead of the purported 1 pick. -

Seb already named Daicos as the Brownlow favourite. Probably had McStay as the Coleman medalist too. -

You don’t wish ill will to any player. But it’s Collingwood and there is a bit of karma about this I think. -

Discipline was a factor, but imho not the major contributing factor. I still think we were unnerved from the Collingwood game and started to buckle at the knees at the thought of straight sets. We seem to have lost the resolve and belief that we had in 2021. We also didn't deal with the adversity of the Collingwood game at all. Largely shaped by the hit on Gus early in the game - we were clearly rattled and I think that carried through to the next game. Max's injury against Brissy early in the year was also a telltale sign of this. -

is his foot ever going to get better? -
If we miss the final 8 next year then ...
Gawndy the Great replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
1. If we miss the 8, then Goody is 80/20 to go. Possible leadership and footy Dept changes. A fair bit of list turnover as well. 2.If we make the 8 and don't win a final then Internal Footy Dept Review and Goody is 50/50 to go. 3.If we make top 4 and straight sets, External Footy Dept review and Goody is 60/40 to go, 4.If we make a PF+, then Goody stays. Pass mark: Play in a GF. -

Change coming to the Academy System

Collingwood and Geelong must have a few prospects coming up. -
The state and the nation are broke. Getting any type of funding is going to be extremely challenging. I would be surprised if we made any progress this decade.

Just walked past him in the foyer of my workplace. Seems he is working for another a company who shares tenancy with my employer. Had another Melbourne tragic with me at the time. Was it wrong that we were both overawed and didn’t interrupt his conversation with his colleague.
-
Firstly who gives a flying f what this guy thinks. But to give Collingwood an A! [censored] he must be vying for the MRO position.
-
Sadly i think he's off to Geelong. Didn't he play for the Falcons as junior?
-
Missed a trick with Pick 42 and Schoenmakers.
-
Schoenmakers still there. Was almost a top 20 prospect.
-
Yeah it was a dumb, short term view. Had they done the trade with us: They could have had Curtin, Thulstrop and one more firsts rounder next year. In effect doubling their high end talent. My gut feel is that they’ll do a Norf and hover round the spoon for another 2-3 years to get the first pick and additional compensation. That is probably their list strategy. Problem is, Reid will probably be home sick and tired of finishing last for 2-3 years consecutively and request a trade to Victoria.
-
Will he play next year? Good ball user and kick is HB territory and we definitely have a need there.
-
Got to worry about the kid not wanting to come down for the presentation. Probably just shy and what not but still.
-
Wilson or Tholstrup.
-
His Ratings don’t instil me with much confidence. Should have gone for Curtin.
-
Does anybody else have CC on Kayo? Never seen it before and don’t know how to turn it off.
-
After months of speculation, Reid goes to WC.
-
Definitely not an easy call. So take Reid and then give us the bank for #6 i.e. F1 & F2. There is a generational player every year and having Pick 1 in 2024 draft or close to it would put us in the driver seat. No doubt the AFL will concoct a way to have the 2024 1st pick end up being 5 or 6 after compensation, Collingwood tax and some other non sensical bull dust.
-
I say we tell WC to trade #1 for 6,11,F1 or we will take Curtin at #6. WC F1 not going to cut it for mine. If Curtin is available at #11 we can then talk about a F1 pick swap.
-
And like GWS, they'll have a salary cap issue when the list is about to mature and pay dividends, so will have to let some of the key players go. I'd say in about 4-5 years time when the new draftees are about to sign the next contract, 1-2 of their stars will be offered a massive contract, which either Norf meet and cause more issues, or let the player go for more draft picks.
-
True, but he is not plugging the gap those two left.
