  1. that's brilliant! reminds me of a letter i once sent to daniher telling him to find my a girlfriend, because i explained that when i had one we won, but without one we lost,a stat that worked pretty much the whole of 2004-3/4 of the way through 2006. don't know how much he appreciated it, but the effort was there!
  2. interesting as well the philosophy of the two teams and the way it worked out in the way they defended against the player with the ball. the dogs, with their fsat running gameplan etc, tended to attempt to force the player with the ball backwards or stifle their influence, without attacking the body. it was here where the eagles 'run and carry' game ticks over into overdrive as they use the handball not to free up players sideways, but forwards and as an ongoing springboard up the ground. obviously the eagles understand the need for a running attack, but their incredible fitness has not resulted them in playing the basketball 'shepherd' on the opposition, dogs players seemed to expect the same treatment they dished out, only o experience eagles players hunting in numbers and hitting the body. you won't win a premiership without a physically strong and fit team
  3. atm he's on target to play it against the pies. now i realise we've won the past four times, but i don't think even neita's 300th could lift the 8 fit players we'll have left bythen to lose by less than 8 goals, let alone knock 'em over. put him down for the year!!
  4. has any player ever had more than one nomination for rising star? because i highly doubt it
  5. i'll put my hand up for giving whelan a personal massage
  6. ha, because hodge has never let his team slip into mediocrity, never given away frees and 50s in a quarter they lost by 7 goals. inspirational leader...
  7. oh my, are you serious? good account? i honestly believe them to be the biggest bunch of hack commentators in the whole hacky lot of australian commentators. the way they try and build everything up past the point of BEST MATCH EVER is a joke. so much so that grybas believed the match to be 'the biggest test of the season for the roos' (wow, how could a top 4 team beat a bottom 2 team with half a team). then about 20 minutes later, with the ball entering the forwardline, grybas spruiked 'will they take mark of the year?' i really wish they'd just settle down and realise bigger picture. not everytime a player takes a mark, are they one of the best marks in the league, not every match is the biggest of the year. i hope they watch a bit of EPL to realise that the best commentary often comes from subtly, and not continuous GOAL OF THE MILLENIUM. then again, bruce did claim on friday night, when the dogs were 65 points down that a 'goal would be handy,' so i suppose it's not just the foxtel boys.
  8. yeah, i mean more when players were being tackled and then looked back to handpass backwards, with no teammate there
  9. for mine it has to be that i understand injuries affect the team rah rah, but i don't understand why it has seemingly made us play incredibly stupid football. the one that really springs to mine is paul johnson on the mark when a kangas guy had the footy, pj's man ran behind the man with the footy, so pj decided to run all the way around him to get to his man behind the guy with the footy, guess what? the kangas player simply played on because no one was on the mark. it's only one instance of seemingly quite a few (many expletives were shouted throughout the evening). oh, another one was 4 melbourne players standing in a line across the field calling for the ball. only one can get it, was anybody thinking? it just gets to me that we can play such mindless football on some occassions
  10. just back on the frawley debate for a second, i felt that in one on one's he pretty much had jones covered which is a decent effort from the youngster. and secondly, i felt it was a necessary lesson for him to play on someone with a lot more toe than he has. when he becomes a key defender for us in a year we hopefully challenge for the flag, he'll no doubt need to know not only how to spoil one on one but also how to go with players who will be quicker than him
  11. to me it makes no sense to bring in a rule that attempts to stop an occurance that doesn't impede a player! will they next bring in that backmen can't put an arm out to maintain touch on their opponent, simply because sometimes it leads to shoving. i understand the idea behind the rule, but it drives me crazy to see a normal contest where two players are not impeding each other, and yet a free kick is paid. also, what's with two guys diving on a footy, one getting there second and thus being penalised for in the back, not a fan of that.
  12. can we add handballing to that. a couple of times i saw melbourne guys about to be, or in the middle of being, tackled and yet decided to turn and handball ten metres backwards, and often to the kangaroos advantage. is the mindset of the team so negative as to not have players in front of the ball carrier, forcing these players to think of handballing backwards or what is it/
  13. i'm not much of an observer of the up-and-coming, but what interests me about the kruzer situation is that he is such a highly sought after ruckman at such a young age. generally those types of players mature later and that is, i think, where you really find out how good they are. for this reason, i'd agree with you tess in asking whether it is worth taking him at number one as there is no guarantee he wil continue to develop, whereas we can mould another youngster into a talented ruckman (which we are good at, simmonds, jolly even johnson now), and we could use a high pick to provide us with another quality ball-using midfielder, as bruce, green and tj are beginning to see the ugly side of late 20's.
  14. ha, means nothing. i've got a mate who can fall asleep anywhere, and has in a club. doesn't mean he took anything or broke any rules. besides, i'd be tired too if i played a game like his qb!
  15. i understand your perception, however the club is not forcing anybody into paying something they can't afford, merely reaching out for some needed cash from those that can.
  16. 2-3 with a calf?? far out, that boy is getting troublesome! didn't people who watched his last sandy game say he was favouring one arm?
  17. just seems veeery low odds considering the names on that list, wouldve thought itd have been closer to the $10 mark
  18. what interests me is the $4 for 'any other person'? are they saying anyone from outside this list of people? if so, who else is there? and why would it be rated so highly?
  19. how bad are you going? feeling jealous of the filth
  20. agreed. i think it was an emotional comment and not a sign of his detachment from the club. whilst i'm not entirely happy it was said, i kind of enjoyed that he was honest about the situation and at least outwardly relayed his thoughts and presumably those of the playing group. he also managed to do this without going overboard and was not scathing to any length of the imagination. he spoke his mind in an arguably restrained manner and we all know that he will now throw his full support behind his team, and the future of the club
  21. maybe to fix bruce's brain, though i suppose that's more of an exploratory mission than surgery
  22. he had not played LESS than 50 games
  23. who was made captain after how many games?
