  1. that loose tigers player on the wing really hurt us as well i feel, especially as our skills weren't up to scratch. coming out of the backline, especially on the members wing (as thats where i see best), we were constantly faced with a richmond player between the ball carrier and the intended target (the same target we used effectively against the crows and pies). this resulted in static movement and allowed the, harder-running, tigers players to push back into our forward line
  2. to be honest i wouldn't care to see the back of bruce. i really like him as a guy and as an athlete, but a footballer i just don't see it, he is the one player who frustrates me. if we should like him because he can run hard in games then we should draft craig mottram, otherwise realise there's more to footy than running and statistics. i believe he loves the club but i don't think he'll take us to where we want to get to. cue unintelligble rant from BB
  3. "They don’t come and watch us, they don't come and support us, they don’t mind writing a note and I will be inundated no doubt with 2007 membership scarves in the mail this week which would be handy for those who need them to go to the snow." what's your response to this then jaded? that's even worse than BT, because this man is the head of our club! now i'll admit to being very angry at the melbourne fan base even before the game, as you could see that even if we won the game, the tiges faithful would have made more noise than us. However i am not the head of the club, and i do the right thing by the club by buying memberships, attending all the games and making as much nosie as i can, so i feel i'm entitled to my rant. i do not feel the president is entitled to this type of comment, especially perpetuating 'snow' myths. the collingwood fanbase has been able to grow and grow because they have a body that is prepared to back the club and its supporters, (yet still make tough decisions when necessary). what is he attempting to achieve by this comment? why did he not even attempt to specify it? apparently none of us here come and support us. well guess what, if our buying memberships and attending games isn't being appreciated by the head of the club, our attendances will drop even further! these are not the words that should be coming out of the mouth of a man who should be selling the footy club and all that it stands for. if he doesn't like the poor showing from our suppoerts, he should attempt to get into the media more often and encourage support for the club, rather than openly spouting rubbish about people who love the club and are just as passionate as any other supporter in the land.
  4. i don't understand how people could not care about our captain becoming the first player in the oldest sporting club in the land to reach 300 games, possibly at a home game away from our home ground. i was livid enough looking at the draw and seeing us play a home game at TD, let alone against a club who's home ground is the TD (just as happened to us last year) before now realising there's a chance it might cost skipper his 300th on home soil. it probably won't change, but i can guarantee you all now if the dogs get on a roll, and we're sitting on 9-9, there will be more than 50,000 expected to the game. i realise it won't move, but i hope to see our club fight to get it moved, essentially because it's our third home game away from home as much as anything
  5. if you listen to channel 9, you'd beleive than brown hasn't played for two years at that the game tonight is on at telstra dome. do they do any research? that's a joke. even tony jones said it, a supposed 'afl buff'
  6. one meter over the man on the mark, or one meter from the man on the mark?
  7. tis what he's done his whole career really. (anyone read ball saying wrecker's hit on him was the worst injury he's had?) i mean moreso how he looks running around, is he crisp?
  8. in some ways there isn't that much pressure on the kid, i mean every newton lover here will either rave about the great game he has, or pass off a bad one as 'its just his first game,' he really can't lose.
  9. anyone know how wheels is looking out on the field? i'm getting worried that he's not walking straight into the team as he always, deservedly, has.
  10. oh absolutely not you're right, but it'd just ease my pain a little if i knew that the club tried to get the game to the g (if it was to be in that situation). i'm not advocating us kicking the hawks off the g i only wanted to use that as a possible example of a route we could chose. i'm starting to think it might not happen, but i'd like to think his goals, captaincy and 300th were all at the g, and sitting at TD watching it unfold would be easier if i knew the club tried to give him the occasion it deserved.
  11. yes i realise this, that's why i changed my tact to have the club at least try. i see no harm in giving it a crack as it will at least illustrate the club's desire for it to happen. people on this site moan about melbourne 'accepting mediocrity' yet now when i suggest the club argue something for its own game, it's childish. i realise it might not happen, but i don't see one reason why we couldn't put forward a submission to the afl to at least find out if it can be done
  12. i guess i would just like to see our club at least fight, hard, to get his 300th at our home ground. surely we could at least put in a submission to switch with the hawthorn brisbane match earlier in the day. an all victorian match with a vic v interstate match. i know i wont be able to be there if its interstate and that really saddens me, but i guess im dying to see him do it at the g. my original post was a bit nuts, but i stand by my desire to see our club fight for its captain, and have respect for history because at the moment it's all we have
  13. i'd say it has everything to do with the club if it, with the richest history in australian sport, does nothing to shift a home game from an away ground, to our home ground to celebrate its first player, let alone captain, reaching 300 games.
  14. it would be the biggest disgrace on this great football club if neitz plays his 300th anywhere but our, OUR, home ground, the MCG. if he does i will no longer refer to the 50s as being in any way, shape or form related to the present club. get him to go to all the kids functions so he gets the sniffles, and wheel him onto the ground if we have to if he has an insummountable injury, pfft what am i talking about? it's neitz, he'd get over anything. but surely we can manufacture our skipper to play his 300th at the g. perhaps we could bombard the afl to switch our HOME game from TD to the g, sounds fair enough both for the club, the man and for the afl to pull a major drawcard between two victorian clubs, especially given how well his record breaking game was attended. surely we can do something
  15. danger game at 2-9? against a team a game and a half behind us? i see what you mean about the expectations, but surely we're not THAT far favoured to win, not to mention how desperate richmond are for a win, i would hardly call it a danger game
  16. brock mclean doesn't need a supermodel, a supermodel needs brock mclean
  17. there is more to team sport than ability and their skills, case-in-point the sydney swans. a group that know their mates are there both with them and for them, is going to beat a team of players with only ability. obviously you need ability to perform at the optimum, but i can't see really where brown lacks in this category either. he gets the footy and runs with it, something we all love to see and i think his errors are more than made up for by his commitment and passion to the team, because his mates on the ground know that even when he mucks up, he's probably trying harder than they are to not only keep their place, but show passion in the red and blue. a team requires players like this to form their backbone, from which young players coming through learn what is required to build a team. a need for passion, commitment, absolute endeavour and attack on the footy, knowing that if you dont get it you will at least have another mate who is in there as hard as you are. i have viewed adelaide as being the best team of the past few years, yet they have failed in september. i view them as possibly the team with the most 'ability' but at the core of their team i don't see, from the outside at least, players who are willing to really hurt just for their mates to get the footy, as the swans have established. a team needs to be built around passion for the club, something the red and blue deserves above all others, and something nathan brown brings to the club
  18. i don't think that'll be too hard for our brock!! yeah i posted this in another thread as well. i feel its a perfect time for him to captain as a feel in job will never carry the same amount of weight, yet we know for brock it will carry the same amount of pride. friday night game in the split round, all eyes on us, our big name player will finally have the chance to quash any doubters or at least prove his merits as the leader of the club.
  19. more like whelan in for nathan g. brown
  20. A horrible, HORRIBLE, misdeed in a past-life i presume. but mostly mum, hardcore dees fan. i say my kids will be able to chose any team they want to go for is ok with me, i just won't speak to them again, joking?
  21. i tell the kids at work i'm robbo's cousin. they get a kick out of it. i've also been gavin robertson nephew, but sorry to say i am not one you are looking for.
  22. i'd like to see mclean as stand in skipper when neita misses a few games this year, low pressure on the guy and a good lesson for him
