  1. Harsh comment. Being put in a position of captain of a struggling team at a young age and finding the going tough, doesn't define him as 'not a leader'. Not his fault the entire squad voted him in for his leadership.
  2. I reckon Fitzpatrick is going to find it hard against the hawks backline. Will be surprised if he gets near 10 possessions.
  3. I hope he isn't on good coin to be honest. Happy for him to be at the club, but hope the new deal doesn't overcompensate him for a years loss of earnings. It's all these extra costs i get concerned about. Was Schwab paid out handsomely ? By the way, did we ever resolve why Schwab got that personal loan using the clubs funds a few years ago ?
  4. I still can't for the life of me see how we were training at 70% when we were winning 8 games. How could this have been possible. Neeld reckoned it was going to take 2 years to get up to scratch, yet we seem to be far less able to gut run now than under bailey.
  5. Would be happy with banfield, has all the attributes but no consistency it appears. He and Clark tore us a new one 2 or 3 years ago.
  6. Gawn has no right to leave. We pay our memberships for years of expensive rehab for this guy, he is a long way from paying this club back. Mazy should not be putting us the the sword on his contract as other clubs circle.
  7. Right now they are starting 22. At least they have a crack. Today was the first game I watched every quarter. Mainly because these two blokes will tackle, harass, spoil etc. It's guys like blease who have twice the talent yet still can't tackle after 5 years that are the problem. And let taggert learn the game and get in the best a few times at casey before promoting him.
  8. No and No. We need good kicks down back. I feel as a dees supporters we are investing in someone here who is not going to make it. He had the worst skills of any recruit I've seen since Steve O'Dwyer, and although he has obviously improved, its probably a sign that whilst he is getting in the bests at Casey, he still is not getting games for Melbourne when we had no talls up forward. I'm happy to develop players at Casey for a few years, as it it works for the Geelongs in the comp, but I can't see it happening with Jack. Happy for others to argue their case.
  9. NO. Put Blease in when he consistently plays decent defensive footy. not just running at the ball full pelt when its all or nothing. sometimes you just need to impact the contest even when you aren't winning the ball. currently he is woeful at this. Let him spend another month getting plenty of the pill at casey and impacting more contests. I will disappointed if they promote him back in. Let them learn the game first.
  10. Who are 'some of us'. How do you recognise the 'clear failings' being on the outside ? I am intrigued also by Peter Jackson comments on structures when I am sure Neil Craig was brought in to help clear up the reporting lines/structures. Also having come from a successful club in Adelaide he should know a bit.
  11. If pj is saying the structures are stuffed then what is Neil Craig doing. Would love to get his thoughts on it. We are paying him probably the most money but he couldn't see that?
  12. Saw the interview. He looks a leader but actually didn't say a lot till the end saying the afl don't respect us and the supporters don't respect us. A lot of talk or process and structures which are nothing words to me. Got the distinct impression whilst not answering the captaincy criticism, that he thought it was a terrible decision. Wait and see. We restructured all but one coach 18 months ago. Looks like he will want experience into the side which is what neeld was actually doing.
  13. Oh lets hope so. Would love to see Thompson and Hird go down. My issue lies also in their on field performance which the media seem to ignore. How often do you see a team like essendon in 2012 go from basically middle of the ladder to top of the table, best in the AFL then drop to worst team in the AFL in second half of 2012, Even worse than us, then back to top of the ladder again in 2013 ? compare then to Richmond for instance who are making slow and steady improvement. it just does not stack up to me. The way they disposed of Adelaide round 1 and later with the pies on ANZAC day was a team that suddenly was too strong and too fit for a seasoned premiership side. Come on. I know its not proof of drug tanking but it seems awfully suspicious.
  14. Yes but I actually think we are going about things more to build a team for finals footy. We have to stick with this defensive game. Whover coaches us into the future. I like it and would like to see neeld coach the year out before deciding on the future. Let him have a chance with a side that's fit with Clark and Dawes up forward and a functioning midfield not relying on newbies all the time. I will measure him on his development of blokes like Strauss. Tapscott, gawn, taggert and blease. The latter especially. All capable of becoming good afl players.
  15. Toumpas was recruited with the future in mind like hogan whi I think would struggle also if he played for the dees right now. I have not seen anything yet to suggest toumpas is soft by the way. He puts his head over it.
  16. Could you elaborate on this ? I have always been intrigued when a new coach comes in and says we are unfit. Were players like Moloney, Rivers, Jones unfit when they came to the club? Under Bailey when we at least got 8 wins, were we grossly unfit? 30% behind the rest of the competition? What weren't they going under Bailey, that supposedly put our fitness behind the rest of the comp? I just wondered back then if that was the real reason we were down the bottom, and now after two preseasons under the new regime we look less fit to me.Less capable of running out a game. even on Sunday they were getting more of the ball, but we were more direct. Bailey could get a forward press going for a half of footy, we seem to maintain it for 10-15 minutes at most. I am really getting sick of hearing about the fitness excuse.
  17. Yes we have to stem the flow. We can't lose players like Rivers, the types we really need ot teach our youngsters. Hopefully we improve by end of year, although i though we had stemmed the tide last half of 2012 and avoided shallackings, but then look at us now,
  18. Daniher as a football manager is a great call. Neil Balme was a worse coach before Daniher and Geelong did ok.
  19. If Home and Away paid twice as much as Tarantino, Leonardo Di Caprio would be doing a bedroom scene with Alf Stewart.
  20. Well we did get Clark and Dawes so you never know. I think we should throw good money at a top mid, ideally young and experienced but most likely through free agency. We need an injection of pace and footy smarts in the middle. If we can add an A grader or 2 to Viney, Toumpas, Trengove, Grimes and Jones then surely we can start shooting up the ladder.
  21. I don't know what people are upset about. How many on here were making this call prior to round 1? We desperately needed new talent and drafted Hogan, Viney and Toumpas. What more do you want from one draft ? People say why did we select Hogan when we have no midfield and now why select Toumpas because Wines has started well. Well I'm rapt we have a young key forward who was BOG on the weekend for Casey. We can conceivably buy in a top midfielder end of year, but you can't build rome in a day. I m also rapt to get someone who is quick with elite skills. THAT is what we desperately lack. Our UNCONTESTED possesion rate is our number 1 weakness, and its why we are getting smashed. We have to draft for the future and they make total sense to me. We do have some more bulldozer types like Magner, McKenzie not playing so I could easily see looking at our side last year, we needed a classy outside type. We desperately need elite line breakers like Toumpas, and we got him. Let him develop, and I don't care if plays VFL all year. it works for the Cats who have developed youngster really well, and they weren't elite juniors. Everyone take a breath.
  22. Has he improved ? He can't get a game in the worst team in the comp. and it's not an excuse he is outside. No player should be purely outside. He was more pathetic than watts. He once had a decent 4 or 5 weeks last year but still doesn't do the hard stuff. Zaharakis coming back from a long lay off is way ahead.
  23. He Has gone under the radar but was i was really disappointed in him saturday night. Avoided the contest constantly and just seemed to have no idea how to defend. We desperately need pace, but cannot seem to develop our few fast runners into footballers. He looks over his injury problems but it's frustrating when again we drop a high draft pick as he cannot get the pill. The bloke has the attributes of a young akermanis yet we can't develop basic football skills into these blokes. Very frustrating as he would thrive with good development i feel. Thoughts?
  24. Yes Sheedy was almost sacked late 90s because he was 'not up to it' and won the premiership in 2000. Go back further to 1992 they got beaten by 160 points and people thought well that enough, and won the premiership a year later. Chance to get him first time fell in our lap and we missed it. now we get another chance. don't stuff it up. We need re-badging, we need an experienced successful coach. To those who dismiss it because of his nutty comments, tell me how well have we done getting unkown assistants to a club lacking in leadership ?
  25. Watts sues Dunn ? I didn't see that coming.
