I think they have already plunged into mediocrity DJ. At least I can take solace in the fact we will likely have some big wins over them in the next few years. I would say Gibson, Burgoyne, Hodge will all retire this year. Compounded with Mitchell and Lewis leaving at the end of last year will cause a huge leadership hole. Plus Roughy would only have a year or two left as well you would think. A hawks supporter at work the other day mentioned that they will just go to free agency. I told him that by the end of this season the only free agents they will attract are has beens or so-so players trying to earn a little more cash. No gun player in their right mind would go there if they want some semblance of success before they retire. No 1st round pick this year.... HA HA HA.

Please, please, please don't let us lose to this rabble next week. We've had many a flogging from this side, for once I want us to deal out some punishment to them!
-
The conditions really suit the Dogs and shows that GWS are very much a fair weather side. They can't use their skills and run atm.

I think we need to run with three rucks for the foreseeable future; Pedersen, Watts and Frost. Pedo can ruck 50%, Watts 30% and Frost 20%. We can then bring in O Mac to ensure we have a tall enough backline when Frost is rucking. I'd make the following changes: In: Pedersen, O Mac, Lewis, Kent Out: Spencer, Smith, JKH, Melksham I really don't see what JKH brings that is better than Kent? Unless there is some special KPI I'm not getting, Kent is cleaner with the ball, faster and hits the scoreboard. It really is a no brainer. I know he didn't play his best game at Casey on the weekend but he is our best option as a small forward.

A lot of it was his doing. Traded out a bunch of players for nothing.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm aware of that. I was more referring to his comments made in hindsight. I hope he is right though as we will then have a very strong midfield if he is as good as Roos thinks he will be. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is no longer a debate. Petracca is so for ahead it is not funny. I also think Roos article saying he would have Brayshaw at one was a bit strange. On what evidence would he pick Brayshaw ahead of Petracca? That isn't saying Brayshaw won't be a good player, I'm sure he will come into his own as he develops further. But Petracca has abilities that Brayshaw will never have. -
Williamstown v Casey Demons
DistrACTION Jackson replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
100% agree. His first game was good but after that he hasn't done a lot. I'd prefer Ben Kennedy come in. At least he puts on good pressure around the forward line. -
Cyril Riolo seems to be struggling this season. I wonder if he needs a fresh start elsewhere to re-ignite his passion. Maybe Lewis could get in his ear and the Hawks would be keen to part ways to start their rebuild.
-
He played really well and I think even when Gawn comes back could hold his spot if he continues to play the way he did. Offers more up forward than Weideman at the moment and is a very good back up ruck. Really hope we use them in tandem when Gawn returns and run with Watts and Hogan as the tall forwards.
-
Ideally I'd like to see the following depending on the VFL game tomorrow: Hogan in for Weideman. I think the Weid will be a solid player long term but he has rarely been able to have any meaningful impact on the game. Granted it seemed he was hampered yesterday, I still think he needs to spend time at Casey to build confidence and really dominate at that level. Brayshaw in for Hannan. Hannan was great in Round 1 but he has not really impacted much beyond that. A fit Brayshaw gives us another solid midfield option which we needed badly yesterday. Pedersen in for Bugg. This is only relevant if Pedersen plays well tomorrow. While Pedo is no world beater, I'd prefer him in the ruck to Watts and this would allow Watts to spend the majority of his time forward where he is most dangerous. Melksham is lucky to hold his spot but I thought his past 2 weeks were solid so will give him a chance. Team for Round 5: B: Salem McDonald Jetta HB: Vince Frost Hunt C: Stretch Viney Jones HF: Brayshaw Hogan Petracca F: Garlett Watts Kent R: Spencer Tyson Oliver Int: ANB Pedersen Melksham Harmes

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 4
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
It seems that Viney is currently being used as a tagger of sorts, at least that is what it looks like. If that is the case, then that is extremely dumb coaching. We take a guy who was a weapon last season as a ball winner and turn him into a defensive player? Dumb, dumb, dumb. -
The main takeaway from last week was that we were able to generate so many scoring shots, even without Hogan in the side. Replicate that this week and take more of our chances and we should win by 5-6 goals. Viney to have a big game, 30+ touches and a couple of goals.
-
While that may be the case, it is pretty embarrassing we still don't have a back of jumper sponsor.
-
Shame we didn't get to see more of Joel Smith this year. But it bodes well for the future!
-
Unfortunately I wouldn't put anything past the media these days….
-
Hopefully not too bad! I guess Spencer may get a few games now….
-
Weideman will probably have to do some rucking for the rest of the game. We should look to read Smith's taps as Watts won't be able to beat him.
-
Any news on Gawn? It's not an ACL is it?
-
I think we should be thinking 45K now! Onwards and upwards!
-
The great thing we have now is such a strong nucleus of young guns and with free agency we have the opportunity to do what the Hawks did and cherry pick players to fill deficiencies. Even when say someone like Bernie Vince retires, we could easily go out and pluck someone in that 28-30 range who is looking to win a flag and it won't cost us anything but salary cap space. We can then still use our first round picks each year to continually bring in young talent. If managed correctly we have a great opportunity to play 5-10 years of finals. Edit: And if the Hawks and Freo think it will be a quick turn around I think they need to re-assess. They are in for a few years down the bottom. But it's good to see the system working to ensure bottom teams can get back up.

Can't believe he didn't make the team of the week for round 2.

Changes for next week v Geelong
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Oliver Sholem's topic in Melbourne Demons
Now we know Lewis and Hogan are definitely out I'd like to see the following: Outs: Lewis, Hogan Ins: Vince, Spencer This will allow Watts to play forward the entire match and also mean Gawn can spend less time in the ruck and try to stretch the Geelong defence. -
That is insane. I can understand a week, or even two for what they did, but three weeks?
