Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
I think having Tomlinson provides flexibility, as he can easily play as a tall forward and can take a grab. Still think we are a bit light on for talls with the following: Gawn - 208cm Bradtke - 204cm Preuss - 203cm Petty - 197cm O McDonald - 196cm Weideman - 195cm Lever - 195cm T McDonald - 194cm Tomlinson - 194cm May - 193cm I guess it depends how Petty, Weideman & too a lesser extent O McDonald come on next season. If we can get more input from all 3 then we may be ok.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Very surprised the Giants couldn't get a deal done for pick 3. I find it hard to see them satisfying us with the picks they have, so not sure what the point of trading up to 6 was about. Disappointed we didn't pick up a key forward, but I'd be interested to see what list spots we will have available post the draft, perhaps there's a delisted free agent or rookie we are looking at.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Why would Freo do that?

Splitting Draft Pick 3
I love this

HATCH MATCH & DESPATCH 2019
Dockers massive winners from that in my mind. Much happier with what we had to give up for Ed Langdon who's output is very similar to Hill.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Agree. Mahoney and co. would've been bent over. I have liked their trade period up until now, but this was our chance to play serious hardball and get a gun player. F**k a late first round pick next year. What a joke.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
I agree. They already have a midfield that consists of Taranto, Ward, Coniglio, Kelly, Hopper, Whitfield, Williams & Toby Greene. They've also got Caldwell, Hateley & O'Halloran also tryin to get into the side and they would also be adding pick 3 plus Green this year. Caldwell is the one I want. 6 & Caldwell for 3. Take it or leave it.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
According to Sam Mclure.... I know he isn't the most reliable. I assume the Giants may have mentioned it, who knows.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
So apparently we knocked back the offer of pick 6 and GWS 2020 1st rounder.

Need for another ruckman?
I'm not saying we are useless without Gawn, I'm just saying most sides have the following: 1. Premier ruck 2. Back up who can forward and ruck if needed 3. Back up ruck 4. Developing ruck who is 2-3 years away

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Agree. I was being conservative. Potentially it could be more like 10, which would push our pick to 25 which is even worse! I would only switch 3 to 6 if there is a player involved and it's overs in our favour. Otherwise we tell GWS to get stuffed and cough up pick 6 for Green.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Not a fan of the 3 to 6 plus 2020 first round. GWS will likely finish top 4, so if we assume they finish fourth that would start as pick 15. Then let's assume there are 6 Father son/academy selections beforehand as is expected, that pick the becomes 21 and effectively a 2nd round pick. This is our chance to go hard, one of Caldwell, Hateley or O'Halloran plus pick 6 or get stuffed.

Need for another ruckman?
As was the case last year, I'm a little concerned if we go into next season with just Gawn, Preuss & Bradtke. I would like to see us use a rookie pick on an experienced ruck to keep on the list just in case, but also provide cover in the VFL as well. This would be mainl as protecton for Bradtke who is still very much a developing player. Thoughts on who may be available?

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
So assuming we take Hayden Young and cody Weightman in the draft, our best 22 for Round 1 could look something like this: B: Jetta May Lever HB: Young Petty Hibberd C : Langdon Viney Salem HF: Petracca McDonald Melksham F: Fritsch Weideman Weightman R: Gawn Oliver Brayshaw Int: Tomlinson Harmes Hannan VandenBerg Emg: Preuss O McDonald Neal-Bullen Hunt

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
I agree. I'm not too fussed about him, is 26 and will be almost 27 start of next season and has kicked over 40 goals once in his career. He could be a solid player, but I have doubts over his durability.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Yeah I believe that was our 2nd round pick next season. So we finish higher than the Hawks and we are laughing.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Also have received Hawks 2nd round next season

Splitting Draft Pick 3
At the end of the day, the pick value index is only relevant if you have academy/FS selections and is just a guide. I'd much rather have 1 lower pick than 3 higher picks. Of course this is all going to depend on next season......

Josh Jenkins
I feel like our administration and coaches are really over rating our forward line. McDonald - 1 good year Weid - 3-4 good games Melksham - solid but no star Trac - developing into a good player but poor set shot Fritsch - could be a gun but still has a way to go Hannan/Vanders - both injury prone Petty - still very young I just don't understand how we aren't looking at someone like Jenkins.
-
Sparrow, Jordan and Nietschke
I think Sparrow showed a bit as well until he got injured. But Jordon definitely looks like he could be a late bloomer and could be a steal if he comes on.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Ahhhh good point. It's probably a 50/50 that Maginness isn't bid on by pick 11. This now makes a lot more sense.
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
Yeah I agree. Not sure how that gets done. Time will tell. Happy to take pick 3 to the draft but also would be over the moon to split and have two picks in the top 15.
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
Agree. It would probably be something like 3 & 50 for 6 & 11, as GWS would need some additional points. But that would be a great draft hand to go 6, 11 & 26 at the draft.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
How are GWS getting 11? Currently held by Hawthorn....

Splitting Draft Pick 3
I think we have left the ball in GWS court here. We would've said to them this is what we want for pick 3, take it or leave it. It's in their best interest to get to pick 3 and not ours to trade it, we hold the upper hand here and I think we are going to get a very nice deal coming through.
