I saw a report Tom Phillips is also on the table... Wish we got him instead of Tomlinson

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
I really like Gunston as a player, well love to hate him and appreciate his talent. But is he really what we need? Fritsch, McDonald, Melksham or play a similar role. In my mind we need a full forward who can split packs and allow McDonald to play 2nd tall and Weid third.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
From what I've seen of him, he is not in your Josh Kelly league of kicking skills, but is fairly reliable other than the odd shocker. I think his biggest asset is consistency, plus the fact he is only 23 so he still has upside.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
What's this got to do with GWS though?

Splitting Draft Pick 3
I'd be saying we need pick 6 & another within top 15 or no deal. Or alternatively 6 and Caldwell or Hateley. They need pick 3, we don't need to trade it.

I do like that we are backing ourselves in here....

This is why you don't go early on the one Frost trade. I think we still have a few things to do pick wise and have a feeling we are after 2 top 15 picks. That is why we didn't want the late picks this year.

Tom Green (Drafted by GWS Giants)
We have the upper hand here. Make GWS pay big!

Farewell Sam Frost
It's a salary dump by GWS. They have an abundance of young talent and even more to come through their academy. They didn't need either, so the Hawks take on their salaries and get to give up very little in picks. For what it's worth, Patton is around a B- level of player, if that so I'm not too fussed.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I wouldn't be going after Hill with Langdon on the way. Seriously, you go through the stats and Langdon is equal, if not even superior to Hill. He's not as easy on the eye, but that would probably be why he is cheaper, substance over style in my mind. Below is a summary of the two from last season:
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
Surely we have some sort of deal already worked out with GWS, otherwise what was the point of them moving down to pick 6.
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
Would rather get Caldwell..... not sure if Bonar is really what we need?
-
Splitting Draft Pick 3
What about 3 for 6 and a player... with some change back
-
Sam Gray
Over his career he's kicked 83. 74 at 52.87%. AFL season average for 2019 was 45.8%, so he's above average but not fantastic.

Buckenara: Dees List Overrated
If anyone has access to Herald Sun I'd be interested to see his assessment from 2018....
-
Buckenara: Dees List Overrated
I posted on one of the FB pages re this, and while I agree with his summary based on last season, he said similar things regarding the Richmond season in 2016 and also said they can't win a premiership with that list. I'm fairly sure this time last year Buckenara was praising our list.... it's very easy to just write things based on one season.

List changes who do we cut, trade or go after.

Phantom Drafts
Is it likely we will go for Serong with pick 3? He does sound fairly enticing and will be ready to go round 1 as a small forward one would think. Slightly concerning his height of 177cm.... but that never stopped Cyril Rioli who is the same height.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
That does make sense. In my mind there should be no compensation. I think 8 years in the system players should be restricted free agents and then after 10 they should be unrestricted for the remainder of their career. This would increase the movement of players and make it easier for older players to chase a flag if they want or leave successful clubs to chase bigger dollars. Or one alternative would be a compensation pick is only received if the player leaves a club lower on the ladder.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
Let's be honest, there is no formula. It's just the AFL deciding what they want to give based on the side losing the player. It helped us net a top 3 pick for Frawley so I'm not complaining.... just think if they want to be serious about it the formula should be available to all and transparent.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
I think there was some mention that the Dockers have an academy guy this year expected to go in the teens, so they may prefer a 2nd round pick next year which would work perfectly. But yes I'd happily trade pick 22 this season.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
The thing that really excites me about this guy is that his last 4 games of the season were at a very high quality. He averaged the following: Disposals - 29.5 Marks - 6.5 Tackles - 2 Goals - 1.25 Fantasy Points - 111.25 He could be the steal of this trade period if he continues his trajectory as an outside mid.
