  1. great idea shaft. keep working on that. the only thing i'd ad, is that the image needs to be able to be made small enough to fit on a letterhead or jumper...maybe 3 or 4 demon heads in the triangle might be enough on the small version?
  2. sorry, i meant to say strength. 13kgs is a lot of weight, but it would only be helpful if it comes with a big change in strength and ability to position and out muscle. that was his biggest problem in afl; he was brushed aside to easily. out of interest, do you know what he weighs all up now? i mean is 13kgs makes him 95kgs, i have read he was around the 79 mark. if he was only 74-75kgs, the 13 would leave him at 88 and still probably a bit too small.
  3. only worth looking at if he has genuinely put on some weight. i think he looked like he could play footy, but was thrown to the wolves by hawthorn before he was ready. could he just be another ferguson? if there any chance iyo that he could be a quality defender or will he just be a bit player? if he will be touch and go we are better off going the draft.
  4. ah yeah fair enough. good job anyway nasher, all your work is definitely appreciated.
  5. couldn't you have made that 4 months and 8 days? :D has the board ever considered deleting the 700-odd members who have never posted even though they've signed up? thats more than a third of the members...
  6. frees his arms in the tackle, his kicking to advantange was fantastic. hands seemed clean under pressure also. never fired off straight away always looked to have time. would be interesting to see him under a little more pressure. top 5 in a lot of categories at draft camp? that prob shows his knees are doing ok. might not be around after the top 10.
  7. saints finished top 4 this year. where did carlton finish?
  8. so two coaches didnt like him? one coach who got us to a number of finals series and a grand final, and another that has publicly stated that he will build a side around youth (which included CJ if he stayed). doesn't that indicate to you that maybe there is something else that you aren't seeing? as in, he isnt going to make it? maybe the change in scenery will do him good. good luck to him with getitng a better contract. if he sets his terms low we might just pick him up again. otherwise, he wasn't worth what he wanted.
  9. the message is getting across because the players realise they aren't doing it right. the coach is in charge and he tells players how to play. if they dont do it, they go. he is trying to build a young side and mould them into his style of play. if old players who have had 10 years of a different style dont get it, its a not a surprise and b not a loss, because they can get the sack. the kids dont have the courage or experience to take the game on consistently yet - they belted every week. give them time, give him time, to teach the plan properly. the players need to take responsibility for failing to adhere to a game plan.
  10. Yeah fair enough. Its a problem that is only going to get worse in the future, and it probably takes the moderators away from what they have to do anyway. How much work does it entail apart from deleting spam? or does this site 'generally' run smoothly? It is rare to see any problems, indicating they dont occur that often, or the mods are on top of it quick.
  11. Are you serious? We win 8 games out of 44 and you think that the poor crowd attendance is because of fixturing?
  12. I thought the easy solve would be 'moderators have to allow new members before they can post'. That way 'bigpenis54' wouldnt become a member. A valid email address would be required. By maknig them wait 24 hours I am sure we'd cut the spam, and probably some of the useless new members too. :D
  13. I think many of your criteria are unfair in an assessment of Baileys current position. 1) Overall win-loss record cannot be used seriously considering injuries and the state of the list. given that he is obviously charged with instigating a culture change around the place we could never expect a positive in this area. 3) Pre game tactics 4) Match day tactics 5) Brand of football These criteria are subjective and there is no real way of knowing anything about these from the outside. The players have stated that they are not playing like he asks them too so how could the supporters judge his 'brand of football' or 'tactics'? Match day tactics perhaps you could give him points for playing Garland on Franklin or scenarios like that, but with the quality of our team and list it is hard to make any reasonable judgements. 6) Mid week and after game press conferences well even the best coaches just roll out the cliches so I am not sure why we should judge him on this... 2) Weekly selections 7) Focus on youth - the omissions of White, Yze, Holland, Carroll Possibly the only place we can judge him because these are definitives, but even then we dont know what is going on behind the scenes, (ie attitude, injuries, individual goals, team rules etc). What he has done is given young kids a chance, eclared that he is going to build a team from the bottom up and given players more than one week in a row to adjust to afl. i think he has done alright considering the circumstances, players seem to be developing, he doesnt have the same favourites as in the past (although i am sure he has some, all coaches would) and hopefully as a team we are moving forward. We need to give him a few years and see how we compare.
  14. I am sure I read that we put a $200K deposit on the place and if we decide to opt out we lose that deposit. I believe the same source mentioned the large ongoing rent at the MRS (bubbledome is an affectionate name given to it by demonlanders who have seen images of it) compared with negligible rent at the MCG if we choose to go there.
  15. you've got it wrong there mate. we have a good draw in footballing terms. we dont have a good draw in terms of financial or exposure. on field, we have one of the best football draws we have had for years. its just a pity its come in a year when we prob wont be a challenger for finals. A draw like this in 04-06 would have resulted in us finishing on top. The last 5 games at the g? remember what happened in those years. if we win 6 games in the first 15 rounds next year we are still a good chance of scraping into 8th with the draw we have.
  16. I think you mean male chauvinists...
  17. In short, yes. It goes to the same script every time. Y_M posts something, most of the time it is outlanish. Sometimes it is thought provoking and out of left field. Most of the time all he is doing is picking a particular line of thought and taking it to the extreme (ie bruce is not elite becomes bruce should be dropped and sacked blah blah blah). In repsonse, the same 10 posters carry on like they think they can change his mind. Y_M then slags them off, usually in a reasonably restrained sort of way, adn then watches as other posters go crazy at him. If they don't like him the easiest thing to do is ignore him. his posts are not hurting you in anyway. These posters have decided that they don't like anything he writes anyway, so its not like they are going to miss anything by not reading him. Trying to tell Y_M he is wrong, is like trying to put out a fire with petrol. Let him have his fun, let him make his over the top exagerated posts, take a few moment to consider if what he is saying has some merit (ie if you strip it back was bruce genuinely out of form and getting picked because of who is was? do we truely deserve more saturday games?) post a civil reply, then politely ignore him. All anyone does by arguing is start stupid waste of space flame wars that no one will ever win except for Y_M, because he isnt going away. Also, I would rather read Y_M's tripe than the tripe of all the posters who come on here and argue and carry on but all the while dont no the first thing about footy. At least Y_M doesnt suggest we should get Ray, or Briss or Gardiner. At least he doesnt claim we should have kept Ferguson, or that we should keep Carroll, or that we could trade White for a 2nd round pick. Y_M is, if nothing else, entertaining, and at least you know that most likely, even though he will deny it, is taking the [censored].
  18. Agree. Perhaps the smartest poster around here, even if not the most intelligent. The morons are the ones who take the bait every time.
  19. Because while the AFL is a business it also also a sporting competition that is supposed to be even for all clubs (ie salary cap, draft etc). The league is making record profits. It has 10's of millions of dollars lying around spare to invest in markets that are not interested in footy. It throws money at unimportant long term goals. BUT the primary role of any league or association is to administer the game for the clubs. The AFL has forgotten that the best interests of the clubs is their primary function. Yes sometimes a league has to make hard calls that the clubs dont like, but not every time. I understand the league is trying to make more money. But can you explain why? The sport of football should be more important than making an extra million or two. If the sport was floundering around and on the brink, then yes, money would be more important, but the league is flying, and in that case it is the leagues responsibility to look after the current clubs AND create a fair and equitable system for all involved (be that draw or otherwise).
  20. no, the naming rights to the ground start in march, corresponding with their debut flight to australia. spend money make money, we all know they are coming now. in the past anglicised aussies may have looked at it as a foreign airline based on the spelling and the country of origin. getting the name into the vernacular of common people is a great marketing move imo.
  21. Melbourne v St Kilda, round 22 Time to bounce: 310 days 00:49 i'm not sure which one we should be looking forward to more :D
  22. Melbourne v North, round 1 Time to bounce: 155 days 23:49
  23. You are obviously very limited in life and world experience. the same thing happens every day, every time you apply for a job. They ask themselves how will this person fit in? They ask behavioural question in an attempt to work out what type of behaviour that person will exhibit. AFL is no different. and yes i do believe that people would say things that would infer that someone isnt perfect. they wont come out and say 'this guy is an [censored]', but comments like 'he likes to do his own thing' or 'he mucks around a bit in class- bt nothing major' are dead giveaways, and you can be sure that people say lines like that. if a person is an ass, people wont paint them as a saint, they'll just paint them as less of an ass.
  24. they do extensive background research into the character of a player. they have been known not only to talk to parents and coaches, but employers, school teachers, family friends, acquaintances, other students at the school. on top of that they clearly interview the player, and it wouldnt surprise me if they put them through some sort of psych test before drafting. i have read that buddy was off the page (disclaimer cant remember where and may be not true). dont use hawthorn as too great an example, because we know how good WC was a couple of years ago before off field culture ripped the guts out of the club. yes i would love the success even if it meant finishing second last 2 years later, but there is no guarantee you get the glory before it goes pear shaped.
  25. i hope by ball skills, they are doing appropriate stripping back kicking and handballing actions with video analysis etc, and not simply drills that involve kicking. because we were terrible last year, there is no readon why players like bruce and jones should strugle with their kicking. even miller has shown he can do it, now they should be showing him why he can sometimes, but not others...
