after reading that article i reckon that warnock can claim that he won a norm smith.
-
so your saying the yze_magic blows your mind?
-
perhaps you think that. but then perhaps the hawthorn football department knows more about football than you, and that is why they targeted left footers in the drafts...
-
you cannot in rugby union. if you put the ball down over your try line there is no score for the opposition. if you took it over it is an opposition scrum meters out, if the opposition kicks it over it is what is known as a '22 drop out' similar to what happens in gridiron.
-
no its not nitpicking, i dont know gridiron at all. but am i correct in saying a safety is a better option than allowing the opposition to score a touchdown? they are the only two times in sport where i can think of players intentionally scoring for an opposition team. actually from reading the wikipedia article it is much more common in canadian football than american football, but nevertheless it is a way of scoring for the opposition that can be exploited, as opposed to soccer, which you get no benefit from, or basketball even, because you score the same and get possession back anyway. And from reading the wikipedia article there appear to have been a few instances where players have purposely conceded a safety for one reason or another.
-
interesting that you singled out left footers. also interesting that hawthorn artificially inflated their kiking efficiency by drafting left footers, who traditionally have higher quality kicking.
-
so if after 3 years at the club he has 16 games, 23 goals, and a mark of the year under his belt, would you be happy with his progress?
-
i'd take a punt that we refused to answer that straw poll, if indeed took place.
-
the word allegedly is used because it the reporter was not there to witness it. it did happen, and i am will be deeply dissapointed if anyone of this calibre, and who exhibits this behaviour and views, ever represents the mfc, of which I am a member. it goes against being australian, it goes against being a good bloke, and i sure hope the foot club holds firm on this.

With Watts likely, can we get another early pick?
deanox replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
can you stop making more threads on the exact same topic and clogging up the boards? -
i meant that lots of sports 'could not' score own goals. HOWEVER, i have found that in basketball you can. and particularly in gridiron, you can score a 'safety' which gives the opponents 2 points and you possession (similar to us rushing a behind). however in rugby, you cannot score for the opposition. nor lawn bowls (because they have to throw it). and im not sure about netball anymore.

hawthorns money dries up as soon as they leave tasmania. if they renew the contract for another 3 years, i would suggest the afl will start to push them down there as the tassie team.
-
rugby, and rugby league. basketball. netball. golf. boxing. i am sure there are others. edit: swimming. archery. motor racing. baseball. any boarding (ie surf). any bowling (ie lawn or 10 pin). cycling. equine sports. rowing. gymnastics.

this year should have been geelongs in my opinion. i thought we'd see hawthorn not quite get close enough, and then have a period of domination. hawthorns players over 27 : Crawford, Shane (V+) 34yr Dew, Stuart _______ 29yr 1mth Croad, Trent _______ 28yr 6mth Jacobs, Danny ______ 28yr 3mth Bateman, Chance ____ 27yr 3mth geelongs over 27s: Milburn, Darren (V+) __31yr 5mth Harley, Tom ________ 30yr 2mth Scarlett, Matthew ____ 29yr 3mth Mooney, Cameron ___ 29yr Ottens, Brad _______ 28yr 8mth Wojcinski, David ___ 28yr Ling, Cameron _____ 27yr 7mth Enright, Corey _____ 27yr crawford aside, the geelong players seem just that bit older, 30 31, while hawthorn is 28-29. here is our list of the same group, red has retired this year: Neitz, David (V+) _____33yr 8mth McDonald, James _____31yr 11mth White, Jeff (V) _______31yr 7mth Holland, Ben ________31yr 4mth Yze, Adem (V+) ______31yr Robertson, Russell _____ 29yr 10mth Bruce, Cameron _______28yr 11mth Whelan, Matthew _____ 28yr 10mth Carroll, Nathan ______ 27yr 11mth Green, Brad ________ 27yr 6mth Wheatley, Paul ______ 27yr 5mth after that i think our oldest is davey at around 25 and a few months. there is a full 2 years between that group and our next oldest...thats the reason that group wont help us with our next flag. we need to draft well until the davey group in 29 and we have a good group of players in each age group.

i voted for brock. he is a leader on field, and i think he has put the youthful indiscretions past him. everyone is allowed to muck up when they are 21, and i have no problem with the fights overseas - we dont know what happened. and fwiw i think most footballers are immature, testosterone charged blokes, and with the except of robert harvey and james hird (who still stuffed up) not many have that perfect aura about them anyway. miller i like. i like his enthusiasm i like his leadership. i think he could be a good solid long term player, and if he had kicked 30-40 goals each of the past 3 seasons he would probably be getting my vote. but unfortunately he hasnt. blame ND, blame anyone, but miller has not produced on the field long enough or consistently enough to prove he will be a regular in 2010 just yet, but i think we're all pretty sure brock will be.
-
he has been described as a quick simon black. from the wisby report in the other 'adam thompson' thread: perhaps you didnt actually read the thread and simply saw that he was an inside midfielder and made your own conclusions.
-
bate isnt a CHF. and garland isnt a FF. he maybe capable of playing forward, but i cant see him becoming a first choice KPF. maybe a third floating tall, maybe a winger. but he'll need to put on a lot of weight to be a FF
-
so you're one of those flogs who automatically equates 'inside mid' and 'able to get his own ball' with slow?
-
why do you add an extra line between each of your lines of text?

i think we did quite well in that draft, considering what we had to work with (ie late picks), but that is precisely why we are struggling now. if we had picks in the top few we could have a pavlich or a darren glass. granted the top of the draft isn't as good as others ie 04, but we got good honest players, but didnt snare a package. we didnt get an elite, and we didnt get a leader. RE greens leadership, one swallow doesnt make a summer. he has been average of late. and regarding the win against adelaide, didnt green make a comment about us playing finals in 2007 either just before or just after that game? at least he was trying to talk positive. but it is genuinely hard to name games where green has stood up and influenced a result. out of interest i think the 99 draft is a great draft to show how good CAC could be. he had rubbish picks to work with, in an average drafting year, and picked out a large group of players who have had successful afl careers. unfortunately he wasnt able to select/we weren't able to develop, any stars.
-
are you guys all morons? if you dont like him, dont make 6 reply posts to his dumb post.
-
green had a great year, but there is a reason he was left out of the leadership group this year. after a great start to his career he has treadwater imo and never reached star status. good honest footballer, with a good kick (most years) who can be courageous, especially with the flight of the ball. never has much real influence on matches. and if you disagree, only bother replying if you can give me examples of when he has influenced the result. wheelan - spends more time in the doctors office than on the park. has managed 140 games in 9 seasons at the club. 2008 was the first year he has averaged more than 15 disposals. yeah he is a hard nut tough defender. but thats it, he is a small defender. does create some play, but does not win matches. wheatly - tough? no. injury prone? yes. long kick? yes. beat his man? no. yes he is useful player, but that is all. no star. bruce - the best of the lot over his career but stlill never good enough to attain star status. his disposal has let him down greatly. still question marks. plus we got him at pick 64. remember we took shannon obrien (63) and michael j clark (42) before either wheelan (50) or bruce (64). and traded pick 35 for powell. do you really think we got leadership out of that draft?
-
would you consider rivers for pick 16? im not sure i would. i wonder what they would pay for him. he is only about to turn 24. for the record warnock is 24 and 5 months, and carrol is nearly 28.
-
the problem now isnt the kids. its the lack of leadership and quality older players on the list. go and read about 'draft penalities' so you can see why we couldnt draft them in 99 and 00 and see why we are lacking players in the 26-29 year age bracket.
