apparently you can't even remember what question you asked. and if you realise the theory that hislops future is brighter than carrolls im not sure why you bothered to ask the question in the first place. and your statement that 'neither are going anywhere fast' indicates that you either know direct behind the scenes information (which I doubt) or you are speculating based on what you read on big footy (which is highly likely, judging from the standard of your posting). you dont know jack. you know what you read on the internet, and are basing your assumptions on internet innuendo and preseason poor behaviour. maybe they are correct assumptions, you have a 50-50 chance of getting it right, but you dont KNOW, you guess. and you're clogging the boards. stop wasting everyones time being a fool.
-
how could you have an opinion on the matter when you dont understand the issue? carroll is old. he is going no where. he is not worth trying to rehabilitate as his behaviour has been consistantly poor, and he isnt that great a player. hislop is young, could be a much better player and is still a possibility of putting poor behaviour behind him and having a successful afl career. maybe you really just cant comprehend that, but im sure if you try hard you'll get it. im not sure how much more simple it can be.

cric info stats? lol cant believe hayden, what a waste, he was looking good too. i think the fact that he went for so many runs justified him not having a spot up til now. the reason he was successful is because he kept attacking and tossing it up. honestly, i think clark or kattich could have done similar, but they quickly went into trying to contain batsmen when they got hit. what i have found the most interesting through this series is the way that india have batted. they have lost wickets through arrogant and lazy shots when they looked like being on top, but the most interesting thing has been the old 'where theres one, theres two'. india have dominated for large periods of time and it is as if everyone but the two batting have switched right off, causing a couple of wickets to fall at a time. contrast that with australias innings in the 3rd test, where everyone made a few runs and contributed...india have often had lots of contributors, but have sometimes even lost the two set batsmen at the same time. very odd...

so you claim you do get it, and then in the next sentence you admit you don't get it.

being slashed with a knife suggests someone else pulle dit on him, not the other way around. and getting cut up is probably one of the quickest ways of learning not to get in fights again. hislop, 20 years old, potential to be a 12 year player, in the midfield, and possibly a good player, not just a bit player (just potential). carroll, 28 years old, potential to play 3-4 more years, not a genuine full back, probably more suited to a 3rd tall role, proven he is not a great player, not in best 22, ongoing social problems throughout his career (not 1 or 2 incidents when he was 18 or 19). and you still don't get the distinction?

I'm not sure about that. In my opinion the pitch has played alright, a litle up and down occassionally, and it has spun. I don't think the fast bowlers will threaten, and it will come down to Mishra and Harbajan for the indians. sehwag will probably get a good trundle as well. actually its not a surprise that harbajan has opened the bowling, and that khan has gone for a few runs the first over. It will be interesting to see if we try similar tactics of trying to hit an indian spinner out of the attack. it will not surprise me if hayden makes a hundred this innings. i havnt watched him bat today, but he is due.

he would either play for the dees/casey or sit out of football until the end of that contract. i am not sure if the afl would compensate us with an extra player because i cannot remember it happening before (not since ben holland and fitzroy anyway ) but seriously, we offered him a contract, he didnt want it. we could have offered him more, why would we pay him more in the psd?

assesment criteria. a) does the club think he has the footballing ability, potential or realised, to slot in with our current group of players? (this includes the questions of 'how old?' 'do we have tons of this player?' 'realistic possibility of being among first picked vs fringe player at best') b ) will he fit in culturally within the mfc rules guidelines and behavioural standards? (this includes, assessing past behaviour and estimating future behaviour based on interviews etc) if a) is a yes, the club will then consider b ). if b ) is a yes, the club will then consider player. at the moment we, as a forum, know the answer to neither question. we can speculate about a based on under 18's and draft camp performances (very good) and performance at essendon (not so good, but hindered and therefore may have potential still). we can speculate on b ) based on rumour and innuendo. IF essendon indeed offered him 1 year and he knocked it back, it would suggest he either does not want to play football, has received a better offer elsewhere, or realises that factors at essendon (such as staff, environment, mates) are restricting him realising potential. the latter is the best case scenario because it answers question b ). the middle answer means we may be chasing him, or someone else is chasing him. the former indicates we dont bother. SUMMARY: We don't know, and we should wait and see what the footy club does, instead of debating rumours EDIT: fwiw I like the discussion, and i want to hear more about hislop, but making judgements based on big footy rumours, or even drawing conclusions based on facts about pre season training sessions are laughable because we have no way of knowing.

i want to see Y_M turn up... even if its just so we can hear his match report haha

he didnt bowl poorly at any stage. it appears the indians were intent on hitting him out of the attack. now that we have them three for we relaly need to push hard and try and have them 5-6 down by the end of the day. if thats the case we are a chance, but if they are 3 for 300 we probably wont win.

i realise it is an issue Rhino, and when it that situation I am all for ensuring that the side picked will not win the games. but seriously, 14 months on we are past it and there is no use lamenting what could have been, because it hasn't happened, and we need to move forward. you may aswell start a new thread complaining about how we didnt get chris judd.
-
Rhino, I would love to have the 2 best kids in the country. My issue is you cannot go into a season planning on trying to snare those two kids when a) the season hasn't started and b ) we don't know how that draft will end up being rated. in hindsight, the extra priority pick last time got us an average player. maybe next time it will get us a cracker. maybe it wont. we wont know til after the fact, same as we didnt know that year that sylvia wouldnt come on like we hoped, or that mclean would be stalled through injury, or that the ox would do two knees, or that bruce would be in our top players after coming off the rookie list. these things are all hindsight, you do your best in the circumstances but it is not worth us trying to get that one extra pick, the chances the player will be anything above average are probably only 50-50, the chances the player will be a superstar are tiny. going into a season trying to win games is more important.
-
very good post. give it 10 years and we'll judge it again. priority picks got us no where last time.
-
well we've got 7 for the 7th so far. im not sure exactly how many we've had in the past, but i assume you would want 25 at least given a couple of people will probably pull out?

ATTENTION ANYONE WHO JOINED IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS
deanox replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
:D :D It's not relevant at all who hasn't posted, but its not hard to bring up a list of how many members, and then sort that to separate members who havn't posted. I am more interested to know how many actual active members we have in the forum. It is interest that about 1/3 members who sign up never actually post though. I've only had the one exam (on monday which is why I wasn't at the forum game), and have two next Monday :S I'm doing Science/Engineering at uniso I have done some statistics, but if truth be told I am more than happy to avoid any real maths. Stats is interesting though, I wouldn't want to do it for life. -
i hope they name him to play. i really do. and i hope the ICC comes down hard on them, and makes them forfiet the test leaving the series as a 1-1 draw. world cricket needs someone to step in and take a hard line. harbajan should not have got off last year, the BCCI thinks it owns the world, and too much power rests with them, and the other sub continental nations they support.

no. Whispering can tell you how awesome you are, because he couldn't do it, and I had to make the poll twice haha. No one has voted anyway. And I made like 10 posts in a row because of all the merged threads. What a mess.
-
this is the poll thread everyone. rollo maybe you could link it in your first post?
-
Please use this poll only to post definite information about your availability for the interforum match versus Saintsational. Cheers.
-
I'll do it again lol
-
Hi everyone, in conjunction with Rollo I have created a poll in another thread to help us get the right information and determine what days are the best. Please head over to that thread and answer to help us out. Maybe a moderator would like to merge the threads?
-
Hi everyone. I had a chat to Rollo and we thought a poll might be a ogod way to organise the best dates for us for the match. Please read the question carefully so that the information we get can be used appropriately. Also, if you are not able to confirm the information, maybe PM Rollo rather than answer in the poll so that we can be sure the poll covers everyone who will definitely be there. for example, I might also be able to do Sunday the 14th, but cannot confirm it atm, so I will have to let everyone know.

no chance on a saturday because of cricket, but given enough notice i think i could really make my debut this time. no more exams, i dont work sundays anymore. sounds like the stars are aligning for deanox to pull on the red and blue... definitely a no to november 30th from me, but i dont think i am high up the pecking order in when this game gets determined anyway.

Are you satisfied with Bailey at the moment?
deanox replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
mo, have you ever considered that the game plan of the best team is the best game plan? what that means is that you get the best players together, get them playing smart, skilled footy, get them playing for the team, and get them working hard all around the field, and all of a sudden they will be playing the best gameplan because they are the best? the game plan will evolve around players, as we get them, and as they reveal their strengths. hard bodies winning football are still important in any team - judd and cousins could hit packs when the wanted, neither were soft outside runners, yet WC played 'run and carry'. essendon played hard aggressive footy yet james hird loved to be outside and run with it. the 'run and carry' differs from the 'kick it long to 5 opposition players' and the 'short kick to hit a loose target' game plans we have tried over the last few years, neither of which would win us a flag. -
and that he left the club to come to melbourne, where his brother played. that alone should e enough to not want to pick the kid if there is a good chance he will want to be with family interstate.
