  1. poor kid maybe. but if you had the chance to pull on the red and blue for just two games, and they told you it had to be those, would you still do it? if he is a good bloke and works hard, at least he can say he gave it his best, and got to play afl football. hold his head up high, not everyone is made for that. well done, thanks for your efforts.
  2. i thought it was robbo last year, and bell the year before that. did they use new updated jumpers? i was wondering if the players are just told to rock up and thje organisers give them juimpers. maybe they had robbos 24 sitting around from last year.
  3. the last two were won after challenges. i think thats the reason the rule was changed, after four in a row they decided it wasnt a fair system...
  4. who ran for us last year?
  5. yeha and sylvia at number 3...
  6. its the only grand final we've been in that i was old enough to remember. i remember the anticipation, the excitment, of the week. i remember arriving at the ground. i knew how daunting essendon were that year but i dared to dream. i can remember being dissapointed that a young cameron bruce was a late withdrawal, but remember being very satisfied with ND's plan of having bruce warm up with the boys before the teams were submitted - so very sheedy like, and i thought we were onto something. i can remember sitting and watching the score, as we were getting pumelled, hoping, praying we would stage a revival. i remember being outraged at essendons tactics, wishing we could stand up and fight back like them, wishing someone would help schwartz out. i remember calculating the score difference at half time and thinking it was still possible even if there was no real hope - the innocence of youth. i would watch it again tonight. there are always replays of collingwood, carlton and essendon grand finals. the hawks in the 80's, west coast in the 90's. but there is nothing of the mfc. there is no footage of our grand final victories, of our three in a row. so for me, 2000, while dissapointing, is one of our greatest achievements in the past 50 years - we made the GF. it would be good to see the red and blue on the big stage, even if we get thumped. tonight there should be 45 mfc players sitting at home watching that game, watching what it means to be a part of melbourne. i think if that doesnt make them want to stand up next year, that they will be a lost cause, just like we have been for the past 45 years.
  7. ottens has flourished in his time at geelong, he has had a fantastic team around him though. how did you rate ottens at the time of the trade? hindsight is a wonderful thing.
  8. pay cut only if the 3rd year was offered, ie give him 3 years, first two at good money, 3rd year on half salary, UNLESS he meets certain requirements in the 2nd year of the contract. ie games played, best and fairest votes etc. although, it could then be a very sensitive issue if he needs an extra game to get the big money and is dropped...im not sure i like performance based contracts for those reasons, it is completely out of the players control.
  9. i'll be dissapointed if it is for 3 years, unless he has taken a massive pay cut.
  10. so whats your take on this now? did you talk to someone who wasn't brent prismall?
  11. i dont disbelieve you. and i agree with you. in that order. but i was refering to deestoyers who started this thread lol
  12. so either someone is playing games with us OR someone went and spoke to a random stranger who he thought was prismal and had his pants pulled down on the internet...
  13. i noticed he did some good things, most of the comment here was that he was often 'lost in space'.
  14. that is the problem with the team not with bell. when a player gets the ball and runs up field, the half forwards should be leading to space and presenting options. they shouldnt stand still and wait for players to kick it to a contest, which is what happens. he stops because there is no one to kick it too, and if he kept running he would run straight into an opposition player in front of him. the other option is just bomb it long. maybe he should do that more, posters around here would praise his 'long kicking ability'.
  15. if he goes in the nd there is a good chance a club would pick him up with a late first or second round pick. consider the fact that most picks are speculative to some extent and warnock is a ruckman with a few years in the system and a few games under his belt. that means carlton would have to take him probably with their pick 20 or whatever they have, if someone hasn't got him first. they may as well just trade that to freo for the kid and at least everyone gets something out of it. i wonder what freo are asking and what carlton are offering?
  16. lost me when you said morton has poor foot skills. good luck with this thread.
  17. very impressed with garland. i suggested he be the man to take buddy during that week and obviously someone at the club agreed. he has pace and mobility, he has a great spoil on him, he has a fantastic competitive drive. he isnt as weak as he looks, and i think will improve in this department over the coming years. lets hope he keeps out of the injury clouds which has befallen so many promising melbourne players.
  18. i think if we were thinking of taking him it would be in the PSD because we offered him more than geelong did? why would we trade for him?
  19. should prismal have been out drinking this soon after an acl?
  20. are they really letting the best dressed people in first?
  21. hope he doesnt go down the bartram path of struggling to find the rhythm again in his 3rd.
  22. which makes a lot of sense. he is not a KPP and he is not a full time midfielder. but he is a dangerous match up because he is versatile - if he moves the opposition will need to change the player on him. IF other players can hold down the key forward posts, he will be a very dangerous 3rd tall up forward. IF other players can hold down the key midfield roles, he will be very dangerous when he swoops in there. but unforunately, imo he is not going to be a player who is good enough to hold down either of those spots consistantly. he could be a superstar, but will initially need some other standing around him.
  23. out of interest did you go up to him and say you were a melbourne supporter? or did he mention this of his own will?
  24. nice, but that expects that all expenses stay the same, and we know they don't. TPP increase, general running costs may increase. how much are we committing to casey? unfortunately when you have a 30mil or so turnover, the chances of the expenses staying within 250K are pretty low. possibly, but i doubt they will advertise it like that, seeing that we had to beg members to donate...
  25. could you tell us what the club said exactly regarding our finances, and how much you were ed to believe our official debt is now? is it the $5mil minus the debt demo money like we thought?
