If they weren't going to play him then they would not bother promoting him as it costs them more money. It would be plain dumb to promote him then leave him at Sandy. Why bother?

Promotion off the rookie list = senior selection. If it's confirmed that he has been promoted off the rookie list (not sure it is), then he will line up against Brisbane.

Not necessarily.

It may just mean that Melbourne have another option / more depth when selecting teams or even that it gives the the player that little bit more incentive and hope to make his senior debut.

It may even put a little bit of pressure on someone like Jones or McLean that if their form drops off over the next 3-6 weeks that there is someone waiting in the wings to make the most of their opportunities.

I believe that Valenti would be considered for the Brisbane game, but he may not be selected until one or two games after it.

Yes necessarily. You don't have to promote immediately. They can leave it until week 7 of Neitz's mandatory 8 weeks out if they so choose. Promoting him without selecting him doesn't give them another option, it just means they have to pay him more to play for Sandy. It would be dumb. Why would they do it?

There's no rule saying that they have to promote someone at all.

After all, it's just gonna mean a club battling financially has to fork out more cash. They're not going to promote anyone unless they are certain of playing in the next couple of weeks. Otherwise it's just a waste of $$$.

there are lots of other options... why does the solution at demonland always seem to be to throw a kid in to the wolves? be patient and give them time...

you're already talking about putting pressure on juice to hold his spot? how about blooding him? how many games has he played? surely juice gets some time to cement his spot at full forward and let him play, before we give it to a kid running around in sandy 2's, doing exactly what juice was doing 2 years ago...

that's taking a step backwards with our development, not forwards...

You've misread my words, I suggested that if Zomer was elevated to the list, that Newton would then realise that with Neitz gone for 2 months +, then there is a spot solely for him,,, but with Zomer temporarily elevated it would create competition for Newton who would not want to be seen to fall behind in the pecking order, particularly to a rookie. This may just be the thing to fire up the Newt.

I to want to see Valenti play for the Dees but we have Jones, Mclean, McDonald, playing in/under roles & all not quick. Valenti will get his turn.

Correct Nasher.

From a financial point only elevate him when you are going to pick him.

If Newton's mind worked like that then he is dimmer lightbulb than I thought.

Time for you to take your downers (pills) again Rhino, & a quick nap.

No need for a 'Bex and a good lie down'. Rhino is spot-on.

Was a standout in a terrible pre season...

i just wonder tho if he is too much like Mclean, Jones, Sylvia,, Moloney.....

Once upon a time the Demons had no insiders midfielders and too many outside players....

I think its now the other-way around....

We need some one with genuine pace that can run and carry and break the lines....

We have an avergae one in Simon Buckley but they continue to drop him...

Davey is the only other option at this stage and too often he cant shrug the tag.....

Every team has this player except the MFC

Genuine ball winners are rare. Guys that get the contested footy.

Jones, McLean, Moloney (when his head's right) can get it and maybe Valenti. Showed a great deal in the NAB cup against the Cats, I know it was just a PS game but...

We have got a future...

If Jones learns to kick straight...

If McLean and Moloney get their heads straight...

And if i've got Valenti straight...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
