I wonder what Morton, Grimes, Bartram, Jones etc. think when..

.....they look at the leadership group they play under, that comprises the names of Bruce, Robertson, Miller and Yze?

Do you think it fills them with confidence?

Do you think they would be bothered to ask any of those players for advice?

Do you think they are inspired by the type of footy that those guys play?

How do our kids feel knowing that despite being so young and not yet battle hardened, they must to go into the trenches with the softest and most insipid leaderhip group ever assembled? (apologies Neita and J Mac)

The equation is simple - at years end, the names Bruce, Robertson and Miller must be gone from the MFC. We know that Neitz will sadly retire, and so will White and Yze.

There is NO WAY in hell we will develop a superstar until the soft senior core is finally gone. (Thanks Neale)

I am telling you now, if we had a leadership group the calibre of say West Coast (Kerr, Cox, Glass, Wirrpunda) or Brisbane (Brown, Lappin, Black, Power, Charman) then the likes of Sylvia, Bate and Davey would be taking the competition by storm

Young guys need to be inspired. They need guidance. So get rid of the pretenders at the end of the year and let the young talent we have inspire each other.

I think you are essentially right, but unfortunately having a shizen group of leaders is just one of a multitude of factors that make our club a terrible breeding ground for draftees. A lack of money is behind a lot of them.

The problem is of course, who is going to be replacing these blokes as the leaders once they're gone. McLean, Rivers, Davey.... none of them are the type of players or leaders for the job either

Well it cant be any worse than what we have now, thats for sure

If guys like McLean, Jones, Rivers, Davey etc.. are given more responsibility, they may thrive

2008 Leadership group

David Neitz - C

Brad Miller

Cameron Bruce

Russell Robertson

Adem Yze

James McDonald

Potential 2009 Leadership group

James McDonald - C

Nathan Jones

Brock McLean

Jared Rivers

Matthew Bate

Daniel Bell

Ill take the 2009 group any day. 6 blokes that attack the footy, and not one dud among them.

you are a disgrace! How pathetic can a supporter be? Bruce is badly injured 6 weeks ago, has about half a practice match and then plays round 1. This last week he plays on Brad Johnson who kicked 3 goals whilst Footscray slaughtered Melb. And you want Bruce out of the club?
What aconstructive little effort this is!

If we are lucky we may be able to get a late 1st round pick for him

Cross your fingers and hope for the best

They might htink great our current leaders a gone soon, maybe if I put my head down work hard and play well They may be captian in a few years. No one else on our list is putting their hand up

Exactly - I would be thinking I could be captain at 22,23 etc.

OK Robbo and Yze are not leaders.

And you continue your pathological and tedious attacks on Bruce. Your childhood was worse (or more likely is) worse than I thought.

But Miller might not be a top line footballer but in terms of character and having a dip he ranks high. Just an ordinary footballer he is applying himself to the best of his abilities. And its that character and the traits that go with it that has DBs backing and reflects some of the aspects of what DB is trying to achieve. There is much that those player can pick up from example and character off Miller that will stand them in good stead.

And if the younger players are listening and following the messages of DB then they will be smart enough to see through the veneer of self orientated players. At the start of the year it was the players that selected the leaders and the players that need to understand through this part of the education process that some of their selections are not leader and the behaviours they exhibit are not the traits of successful leaders. I think when they vote next year there will be more circumspect wisdom in their choices.

But as usual you miss most of these things in that vain effort to get the attention that you clearly dont get at home.

There are 2 Cam Bruces. Pre Guerra bump and post Guerra bump. The one we have now is very very soft, and shirks contests. Get rid of him. There is no place for lifting heads in ou club.

Some strong words in there, but can't disagree that he's not been the same player since.

surely, the new draftees would be excited about what they are getting involved with...

a chance to create history!!

a new coach, a new ceo, a new stadium.....

we have an astute coach that i am sure would be instilling knowledge to the youngsters...

his handling of buckley on saturday was positive.. he tried to take the game on, run down the corridor...

Damn right...in their shoes I'd be thinking you bloody beauty, more chance of getting a game and establishing myself as an AFL footballer.

Brad Miller used to be a half decent footballer when he had aggression. the best thing he could do as a leader right now would be to come off the square this week at the start of the game, grab the pill, tuck the shoulder in and hurt someone fairly. my guess is geelong will be inside 50 by the time he's taken one step inside the square.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
