Word is that if he was available last draft he would have been no. 1 ahead of Kruiser. So if we do get the number 1 pick this year we may the the Franchise/Marquee player we have been lacking for many years.

I remember thinking by about round 3 or so we were shot last year. Anyone who knows me on this site knows I'm no pessimist. But we are not finals bound this year. Simple as that. I don't want a wooden spoon, but I am looking forward to another draft.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we may have Carlton for competition for 1st draft pick. Don't forget they got done by Richmond (!) by 5 goals.

Personally I think all the focus on attaining the prized first draft pick after just round 1 is not healthy. If after round 22 we happen to be the most under performing team for 2008, then we earn that right to the prize.

Right now, we should all focus our energies on Bailey and Co getting the most out of current list and hope we can quicky develop the likes of Morton. Weetra, Maric, Meeson etc and further develop our other young talent in Petterd, Bate, Dunn, Jones etc.

Is that a confirmed fact?

well doesnt the rule state that if you win less then 8 games (ala carlton) over two seasons you get your handy little extra draft pick...does anyone know the exact wording of the rule?

Nope you need 2 consecutive seasons of less then 4 wins. We screwed the pooch last year in rnd 22.

i thought it was 8 over 2 years meaning 3 wins this year would qualify us

Would love to see Natanui in the Red and Blue.....

But.....

Thinking that he would make the difference we are looking for is unrealistic!

Would be a great start, but let's not resolve to doing what Carlton did..... I would be more upset than I already am.....

I honestly don't think my ticker can take any more heartache at the hands of this club!

I am all for living on the edge and enjoying the roller coaster ride that is our great club, but this is turning into a Ghost Train!!!

While we're no certainties to get Naitanui, keep in mind his skills aren't crash hot. He can leap, run, jump and tackle, but he's not a footballer in the true sense.

If we finish as low as I think we might, I want Daniel Rich. Pure, solid gold midfield genius. You're not touted as a real chance at the Sandover Medal before you get drafted unless you're special, and Rich is just that.

I'd also rather have Michael Hurley, a genuine KP gun from the Northern Knights, before Naitanui.

Just my thoughts recorded for posterity.

Can remember similiar doubts hanging over Buddy Franklins head

If in a position to get Naitanui its a No Brainer

We need height & size more than anything @ present

We have recruited way to many Midfielders in recent times.

Look @ Mark Murphy & Bryce Gibbs? Those guy's have done nothing for The Blue's plight

Nope, don't work that way - or a team could go out and win 8 one year, and go winless the next season and finish with a priority pick.

It's consecutive seasons of 16 points or less - like i said we screwed the pooch in Rnd 22 last year.

Marc Murphy got tagged every week and still averages 20 touches a game in his first 2 years, kid is an absolute gun so I can't see how he hasn't done anything for the Blues plight. At least given them hope for the future.

Apparently next years draft is better than this years is going to be so maybe a concession pick is in order

The doubts about Franklin had nothing to do with his skill and everything to do with his temperament. While Buddy's not the most reliable kettle of fish, he's a brilliant player.

The queries about Naitanui are about how good a footballer he is - how much substance there is behind the flashy exterior.

Given the complete inability of any of our players to hit the side of a barn door by hand or foot, I would have thought skills would have been No. 1 on the checklist for any potential draftee.

Rich or Hurley, please, unless Naitanui shows something more than a big leap and a penchant for big hits during the under-18 carnival and the WAFL season.

Spot on MJ.

Naitanui would be great, he is a marketable player for sure. But I would be dissapointed if Daniel Rich went elsewhere, I hear very good things about him.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
