With all the doom and gloom surrounding the club at the moment it's important we get of to a good start by beating the Hawks in Round 1.

The problem is that a number of our players have had very little match practice as they try to get right for the first game that matter. Cameron Bruce will return from a knee injury to play for Sandringham in a VFL practice match this Sunday and according to the Herald Sun, if he "gets through unscathed, he will be selected for the Demons' Round 1 clash with Hawthorn."

The report says club has also applied for AFL permission to play Clint Bartram, James Frawley, Cale Morton, Lynden Dunn, Chris Johnson, Jared Rivers and Paul Wheatley in Sunday's game against Williamstown.

i think wheels looked a few weeks away. still got a few touches and did some nice things, but never really hit full speed.

there is no need to rush wheels back for round 1. beating hawthorn in round one is not the be-all and end-all match of the season for us. i think they'll get wheels back onto the training ground for a couple of weeks to get the body ticking again, then maybe play him at sandy and step up his match time. all going well i'm sure he'll cruise into our team.

Agree. After watching us on the weekend, we won't get close to a good side like the Hawks even with a full side (minus Bate). So I wouldn't bother with Whelan and possibly Bruce.

Round 2 against the Dogs at the G' might be more of a feasible assignment.

Melbournefc.com saying that Jack Grimes is out for 6-8 weeks with a groin. Would have liked to see him in the side as early as possible seeing as though we are rebuilding (there is no sugar-coating this, WE ARE RE-BUILDING). Hope it's not the dreaded OP!

Wasn't he on a modified program cause of his foot? Now it's his groin?

And I thought he had stress fractures to his back last year. It must be spreading.

Very worrying. It's easy to draw conclusions but in the current footballing lexicon the word groin unfortunatley is synonymous with the term Ostietis Pubis.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
