Pick 4

He is better than Masten, and in terms of playing ability I would suggest he is better than Kreuzer as well.

That's pretty tough on Masten, he's a gun midfielder. I'm with brey, I think th etop 3 is actually Cotchin, Masten and Morton but time will tell. I'mpretty sure though that if the eagles took Morton @ 3 we would have ended up with Masten with exactly the same comments being made in this thread.... ;)

nope, masten is a good little player, he wont have that x-factor morton does

morton and cotchin are pretty well even no1 picks

if carlton did the right thing last year and picked luenberger, instead of gibbs, then kruezer would have gone alot lower, its just their rucking crapness that required them to hype him up as the next dean cox/jim stynes

Don't get me wrong Jarka, Masten is a super little player with lovely hands. I just don't think he has the all-round game to have him rated ahead of Morton, and certainly he doesn't have the X-factor, as brey says. I would have been happy to snare Masten at 4, but I'm happier to bag Morton. I think it's alot harder to find a young guy with Morton's kicking ability than it is to find one with Masten's ball-winning ability.

Out of interest which of top 3 do you think he's better than?

CAC was quoted a month or so ago saying that Morton, Kreuzer and Cotchin were easily the standout three and that if any were still available at pick 4 he'd read out their name in a heartbeat.

i've never seen the bloke play, just read the hype and profiles on websites such as this... but from what I've read if he grows a little more and fills out, he could become a matthew pavlich type player? or is he more of a genuine midfielder?

You guys are being harsh on Masten, that kid is going to be an absolute gem. I seem to remember people saying the same thing about Brock McLean before he was drafted too.

Can't speak for the others, but I'm basing my comments on what CAC said and nothing else.

FWIW I don't doubt that Masten will most likely be a gem, WCE wouldn't have taken him at 3 if that wasn't the case. Does he have the same superstar potential as Morton though?

Only time can answer that question

I watched him closely in the Vic Metro WA game and not as strong (both in body and overhead) as Pavlich, but a better mover. Struck me as a James Hird type. Smooth mover, fantastic kick (his 40-50 metre passing is something to behold), and a good pair of hands. Seems to glide across the turf, needs to strengthen up for a key position spot, projects as a flanker wingman at this stage. Can see him playing a few games next year.

Kruezer was anointed a Carlton player four months ago, just like Gibbs had been. Thus, by the time the draft comes around they are both ridiculously hyped.

Hell, I've heard he's "already as good around the ground as Adam Goodes"

Rumours of OP issues with Masten put me right off, which is very shallow of me I know but I really, really, hate that feeling of 'will Moloney ever really be back'. Is there anything worse than an injury you don't know whether you'll recover from?

But let's not suggest that any of Kreuzer, Cotchin or Masten are duds.

But I was still stoked to hear their names read out one two three. I actually cheered out loud when I heard Masten called for the Eagles, and then Morton for the Demons.

Cale Morton.

He just seems... right.

Kreuzer could be awesome, or he could be a dud

Personally, I think Cotchin or Morton should have gone number 1

And considering his size and skill, it should have been Morton

We have made out like bandits

Morton will start out as a flanker/ wingman. he has terrific skills and can kick the ball lace out 50m onto a teammate's chest.

however, he is only 17 and already 192cm.

when he bulks up, and maybe grows a couple of cms, i think its very possible he could turn into an awesome KPP.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
