It's been reported that Ben Cousins has flown back to Sydney for some rehab then back to WA for footy.

Surely a week and a half is not long enough?

Local Radio just reported he skipped the rehap in the states?

It's very expensive treatment. Like $90,000?... I'm not sure.

But if the Eagles aren't paying for this stint, could it be that Cousins just can't afford it? Surely there's good help available here.

apparently is he is doing his rehab by Correspondence

Actually we do have a few places for him here in Sydney......

This sad and sorry story just gets worse - 9 News reported Cousins was hospitalised after a 5 day bender on cocaine whilst in the States. It is now also in The Age.

Sad for his family and whilst I appreciate a drug addiction is not something that can easily be kicked, it is time Ben Cousins grew up and started accepting responsibility for his own actions.

One of the best players you could hope to see and he is throwing it all away. You would think the public humiliation would be enough, if not, perhaps the death of his close mate, more public humiliation with the drug raid - what is it going to take for him to wake up to himself???

People don't take drugs and become addicted for no reason.

He clearly has psychological and emotional issues which are leading him to this self destructive behaviour.

However, he is incredibly lucky that unlike many drug addicts, he has plenty of resources at his disposal to help him get better. But the reality is, that he won't recover until he wants to get better.

I know you've mentioned that he's had a lot of rude shocks in his life lately, that should have prompted him to take control of his problem, but there is every chance that these issues, especially the loss of his friend, have only further exasperated his addictive behaviour.

He is a very sick man and above all I feel deeply sorry for his family and loved ones.

Sadly, the final nail in the Cousin's career coffin if this story from the ABC is true - Cousins hospitalised after US cocaine binge: report

At least it should shut up the Cousins apologists.

Hopefully, it will serve a warning to the average 2 or 3 AFL players supposedly on the stuff and the thousands of others in society who think drug taking is a nice social activity.

Are you a psychologist Jaded? I don't think we can assume that. Not everyone who takes drugs does so because they are messed up in the head.

Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to realise what you are doing, maybe this plus the impending AFL hearing is rock bottom for Ben.

What, so Jaded is not a psyc but you are? I think maybe she is closer to the truth here.

Cousins' behaviour is destructive, and repetitive.

There has to be an underlying issue here. You do not give up everything, your partner, your career etc... if you are in control of the situation, or if you recognise your self- destructive ways. Either Cousins can't see what he's doing, or he doesn't care. Either way, it's a sad position for him to be in, and until he sorts out the underlying causes, he won't get better.

That's my 'unprofessional' opinion

Sucked in to the arrogant [censored].

The only time this saga will end is when Benny gets a bad batch of a "substance" (since that is all he has ever admitted to having a problem with) and overdoses and dies.

And I still won't feel the tiniest bit of sadness or sympathy. In fact I'll probably celebrate the fact.

He might well be one but he's obviously not in contol of himself and while he's probably not deserving of our sympathy, his family and those around him certainly do although I think they might be better off admitting Ben's addiction instead of being in denial about it. The kid needs help to recover and his footy career is the last thing he should be thinking about right now.

For a man with all sorts of issues, perhaps in the eyes of the law he is blessed....

He's still just a goose IMO and os were the police involved. Never underestimate the value of a good lawyer though, ask OJ?

When it is all said and done Cousins still breached his contract.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
