HAWTHORN has dropped goalkicker Matt Little and defender Josh Thurgood from its senior list.

Little, 21, played one senior game for the Hawks in 2007, but despite performing well at VFL level for the Box Hill Hawks was unable to maintain a spot in the senior side.

He was Box Hill’s leading goalkicker this year, kicking 35 goals in 17 games.

Thurgood, 22, was also among Box Hill’s best in 2007, coming third in their best and fairest. He had already been given a second chance by the Hawks, having been delisted at the end of 2006, but picked up again in the NAB AFL pre-season draft.

Little and Thurgood join retirees Ben Dixon, Joel Smith and retiring captain Richie Vandenberg as outgoing Hawks in 2007.

The club said it had not assessed its rookie-listed players and is likely to finalise their position before the end of the month.

Thoughts?

haven't seen or heard much of little but Thurgood showed some promise. Might be a good defensive pick up for us in response to dropping Fergusen.

Thurgood has been delisted by Hawthorn twice.

Maybe if we picked him up, at the end of 2008 he could be the only player in the history of the AFL to be delisted three times.

I would have ferguson 100 times before thurgood, he is a muppet.

Little had showed some promise though, but obviously not enough to stay on Hawthorns list

No to Little and hell no to Thurgood

Hawthorn have got a lot of marking forward options - Franklin, Roughead, Williams, Boyle, Thorp, Dowler ...

Little is a long way back in the pecking order, he might be worth considering - I don't know enough about him.

We've got Robbo, Sylvia and Hughes as under-sized forward marking options already, maybe we think that's enough? But Robbo is in his last years, we hope Sylvia can move to the midfield and is Hughes better than Little?

Little isn't a bad footballer, but is predominently a full forward. Post Neitz and Robbo, i'd have Green as the under-sized ff, and Newton as the pack marker or breaker.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
