that's 35 players, with Yze and Neitz on the Veterans list i believe? we have draft selections 4, 14, 21, 53, 69 etc. plus pre-season draft selection 3... if we don't delist any more players we will be looking to add 5 players through the draft, where i would suspect we pass on selection 69, and use selection 3 in the PSD...

the question is now, will we cull anymore players from the list? i don't think we will delist any more players, however if we do the three possibilities for mine are Ferguson, Warnock and Jamar... what's the contract situation with these players?

I’m at a loss as to why people don’t rate Warnock. We’ve had a 2nd rate backline for years now and the rare game he’s played he has held his own.

He fails to excite but I don’t see that as a failure in a backman.

In a team crying out for a stronger defence, he’s very low on my list of potential delistings. Unless we had to make room, he stays.

There's plenty of room at the moment.

Vanlo,

Warnock's contracted for next year. More importantly, his "little" brother comes out of contract next year. Matthew's possibly got an additional advantage if there's a long term plan to try to prise Robbie away from Freo.

Jamar - correct, just signed a 2 year deal.

Ferg I think is out of contract & of your three, will likely have the biggest battle to stay on the list. He would have been quietly hoping that someone had put in a bid for Carroll when he was declared available

l thought having Connolly at the club and Bailey as coach was going to be good for the club but IMO getting rid of Travis and keeping Jamar and Miller on TWO YEAR CONTRACTS are BIG mistakes, Jamar is pathetic and Miller is not far behind him, l hope they get it right because they haven't on these 3.

Why did they sign up Jamar? Its not like we were in danger of losing him to another club? Although Carlton do have a tendency to pick a dud ruckmen.

I can't see Jamar being delisted. My pick would be Ferg.

However, we're probably unlikely to delist many more if the kids replacing them will be rated 69+ in the draft.

Is there anybody else on this forum who thinks we are a better than even chance of claiming the spoon next year?

You mean like Port Adelaide and the Kangaroos were this time last year?

With the retirement of Brisbane's Chris Johnson, we can now refer to our Chris Johnson as just that. Who is the other Paul Johnson that requires us to call ours Paul A. Johnson?

Some people have no concept of list management. Firstly, on Jamar's re-signing. Every club needs 4 ruckmen on its list, and as recently proven, ruckmen of any standing are a tradeable commodity.

On Miller, I personally don't rate him, but we have a shortfall of KPP, and obviously Bailey believes that he has some talent there to develop.

Finally, we didn't get rid of Johnstone. We traded him for a 1st round draft pick, which was deemed as more useful for our talented crop of under 23's, than a 28 yo underperforming highly paid player with a poor work ethic....

If we have another year destroyed by injuries we will win the wooden spoon, no doubt with 3 or 4 wins.

The TJ trade will hurt, I can't believe people were happy with that...but thats been done to death.

If we have a good run with injury, then I'd say 9-12th. We'll need to be patient with the new coach...remember Ross Lyon couldn't get the highly credentialed Saints into the finals.

If we have a good run with injury and still finish 9-12th how much "hurt" will getting rid of a 28 yo perenially underperforming player with a poor work ethic and two years left in his career? If, in your eyes we clearly arent challenging in 2008 why not trade him for value now and recruit a capable taltented young player with 10 year playing potential?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
