Farewell to Travis Johnstone

I am gutted about this. So much promised that will never be fulfilled at Melbourne. Having said that he did win a B and F. I bet pick 14 will end up being [censored]. I don;t understand why we traded Johnstone, and yet Sydney want Miller and we refuse and say he is required?

And then we get Meesen, a dud of the highest order to join our already dud ruck stocks (when White expires from overload)

This club is f*****. Our future is so bleak. Right now I'm wondering what the point is.

So much promised that will never be fulfilled at Melbourne.

This really is the thing isn't it.

But thanks for the good memories Travis, and we all hope that this is the right call......

I think it will be, probably for both parties, there is unfortunately a limit to how long a club will put up with such a laconic (at best) attitude.

There is no argument that when he was good he was extremely exciting, but that was never quite for enough of the time.

This could also be a huge wake up call for a few of our other less than permanently committed "stars".

Good luck in Brisbane TJ :D !!!

Ever since that final in 2002 i dreamt of the day trav would carry us to premiership glory and himself to a charlie..........

We all know he had the talent, he was one of the few players who had ability to carry or inspire his team to victory. The problem was that more often then not he was on the sidelines or not living up to his ability. Some will say he couldn't shake a tag, the fact was he was to lazy to do so...........

In a way he empitomises the Danaher era, we all knew the talent was there and on the few occassions or streaks it was shown it amazed us, but it was it always so iconsistant..........

My favorite memories of trapper will be of him bursting from the centre after a bounce with a sublime pickup and finishing it of by drilling a goal from 50.......

It is a sad day when a favorite leaves the club you love, and sadder still that, that player does not fulfill his potential...........

I now look on with interest to see how the career of pick 15s career will unfold, he could well be the missing link in the premiership puzzel......

The Demons time is not now and sadly trappers is.....

Good luck and goodbye trav i for one will miss you......

Under Matthews Trav, you will fnally become the player you were supposed to become... Your decision was the right one. You gave us nearly 10 years of good footy and we got a first round pick for you, I'd say we're about even.

Good luck Trapper. Sad to see you go, but understand it all the same...

I feel like a dumped 15 year old girl.

Travis you are my absolute favourtie player.

Not as much love as I had for Woey but close. So heart has been ripped out.

However you were my shining light when Woey got traded.

Either Bruce better hit back to brownlow form or Sylvia better fullfill his potential or I am just not excited about the Melbourne Footy Club.

And no Dunn, Bate and Pettard aren't Travis. Never will be.

You summed it up beautifully. I always had such a sense of relief when TJ held the ball cos I knew he would never get caught holding it too long and would always hit his target. Im beyond devestated and I am sick of the club ripping my heart out. I can only imagine the force that the lions will be with TJ delivering the ball inside 50 to the superstar who is Brown. All the best TJ, your Brownlow night last year always makes me smile.

"TRAVIS Johnstone says he almost broke down when he cleaned out his locker at the Melbourne Football Club yesterday."

When Travis pointed to the #20 on his arm after kicking a goal in the Troy Broadbridge game against Essendon.

Still sends a shiver down my spine.

The same for me mate.. the same for me..

A bit of shallow emotion didn't cut it for me.

Too little and often too late for Trapper. His was an attitude that needed to be cut from the club before it affected our young players.

Some sublime moments but simply not enough over ten years.

Y_M, I have removed your post because this is not a place to slag off TJ. This goes for everyone.

There are 3 or 4 other threads where you can do that.

The purpose of this thread is to wish TJ good luck and bid him farewell.

And by the way, I doubt it would have been 'shallow emotion' as he'd just lost a teammate and was paying tribute to him.

The silky skilled Travis Johnstone.

Not many players are called Silky and I suppose that is what we will miss the most - the lace up passes that burst chests...

the laconical running style of scruffy number 16...

the off-field issues may have been his demise at the Demons but on-field he had his moments of brilliance and for those he will be remembered...

the crows final was one of those nights where you just sat back and thought, here we go... we ran out of steam after giving up a huge lead to start.. this was a year that promised so much....

the final against the bombers where he started on the bench, came on and with whelan's hit, inspired the demons...

the game against the bombers that friday evening was a special game for all demons and again, he teased us..

if travis dominates in brisbane, then good luck to him... he has the players and has what we did not have at melbourne - a champion!

good luck Silky!

Good luck Trav - hope you star at Brissy and prove all your detractors here that the MFC have made the wrong decision. Just don't get a kick against us!

And to the Melbourne midfield - get used to be targeted by the best opposition tagger and not the second or third best. And to the Melbourne forward line - good luck you are going to need it. No more passes on a silver platter!

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
