Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree wholeheartedly re any known cases of OP.. its just a minefield. Lets some other club take that chance..

Ditto.

But Henderson? I know there is a world outside the U18 championships, but surely overall Ben McEvoy would be a better option for us if we are looking for a tall? I like McEvoy, he looks reasonably dynamic, as far as 199cm blokes go, and he seems to have those lovely sticky hands that could catch a bullet if it was fired from 5m away.

According to the Saints recruiter, McEvoy is a ruckman and will always be so. Henderson is a KPP who will develop into a very good one. As he said, it depends where Bailey and Cameron believe the greatest need is. He also rates Masten much higher than Palmer - he compares them to Williams and Healy at the Swans in that Williams was the getter and giver (Masten) and Palmer the receiver. He rates them both top 10 though. I guess we'll have to see what happens, but this guy knows his stuff. He said the Saints would be happy with either if they are still around at 9.

If you ask me we NEED a receiver. We have a couple of blokes who can get the footy, in Jones, McLean, and Junior, even if he is in his last couple of years. The only consistent outside midfielder we have is Green. Travis is consistently inconsistent, and Bruce can't bloody kick. Not one of those 3 has any real pace either. We need either pace or a KPP. Obviously you should take the best player available, so if Masten is indeed a better prospect than Palmer, so be it. The fact that he has OP is probably going to ensure that he drops a few places in the draft however.

God damn we need another first round pick.

Cotchin would be perfect, bc he has the pace we need combined with sublime skills....he could also help out davey by playing forward pocket/HFF in his first season or 2 ala Dale Thomas.

next best option is Morton if he slips through simply bc he is the best available.

if Cotchin and Morton arent available then we should go for Palmer. Pacey, arrogent and sublime finisher. people are saying that his comparisons with Sylvia are negative? how so! sylvia will be a gun when he gets his body right and his motor endurance up.

if we decide not to go for a midfielder, then it seems Mcenvoy is almost a certain top 5er and would be a legitimate pick, considering our number 1 ruck is 31, and we have no obvious replacement for him.

if we decide that we desperately need kpp to fill CHF/CHB it will either be Henderson or Rance, but while both these players look potentially fantastic, i dont think they are worth pick 4.

Cotchin i can still hope will slip through. its happened before, and if we claim him we will be getting the best player in the draft (ala Franklin 05)

Cotchin will go at number two.

more probably Morton will go number 2.

Morton will certainly go number 2 if Richmond claim Mitch Morton from WestCoast in the trade period.

that leaves WestCoast with the opportunity to take Cotchin. They might, but considering Cotchin has high risk to return home to victoria ala Judd, WestCoast will probably look to draft a WestAustralian with the direct draft pick they got from Judd returning home. Palmer/Mastern/Rance and some options at pick 3 for WestCoast...

what a surprise to MFC!!!

I would expect West Coast to try and push this trade, seeing as it would (you'd imagine) give them an opportunity to get the Toiges on-side in relation to the Juda$ trade.

Kruizer 1

Morton 2

Masten 3

Cotchin 4

I can see this happening more clearly today than when I started the thread. Pick 1 is a certainty. At Pick 2 Richmond have got Mitch and it just seems like symmetry to take Cale who on his record and personal statistics would be an inarguable selection. Pick 3 allows the WCE to take an All Australian star performer who idolises Woosher and Jacko and wants nothing more than to play for them. He is a local and should not present a Judd problem in a couple of years and performed brilliantly this year. He could be the new Cousins, hopefully without any baggage. He would also eliminate any parent or player grumblings about being drafted to the Eagles. He just seems again a perfect fit in symmetry and an inarguable selection. That would then leave Trent for us.

All that being said, Trent could be the worst performer of the four, but only time will tell.

You may be right, but lets revisit it at noon on the 24th.

If Cotchin is available at 3 then WCE will pick him up, no doubt.

More likely for us (and better for us imo), would be in Cotchin goes pick 2. WCE will almost certainly go for Masten over Morton because firstly, they need inside midfielders to replace Judd and Cousins and also because Mitch just left the Eagles after being asked to be traded and having lots of problems with the club.

He's certainly being pumped up in both the Hun and the Age today -

Cotchin the class of 2007 and

Kotchin happy pressure is on mate

(they'll probaby fix up the spelling at some stage)

Fair enough. I've changed my opinion about who we should draft 6 times since then.

I think after his quiet championships a lot of people cooled on him for a while

But it seems he has been given the benefit of the doubt (maybe becuase he was heavily tagged) and now recruiters and clubs are only concerned about him being he is the best talent in the draft.

A little off topic, but bear with me:

Saw a piece on Channel 7 news last night about Masten. He looks the goods for sure but he is a ravid Eagles fan, apparently his hero was Mainy. The impression I got was that if there was anyone who would ever pull a Judd/Thompson style go-home move at the end of their first contract this is the guy that will do it.

We shouldn't touch him for that reason. I think he's a dead cert to go the Eagles with their pick 3 now. That means there's a 50/50 chance we're going to get Cotchin depending on how Richmond play their cards at the draft table. So its either Cotchin or Morton for us at pick 4. Dunno who I prefer. I reckon Morton sounds excellent (like a Cam Bruce but with skill). Cotchin, by all reports is brilliant too, but the fact he was tagged out of the game against WA worries me, still he's young he'll only get better you'd think. Who knows how its going to pan out.

Can't wait for Saturday. Draft in the morning, election in the evening!!

If we don't pick the best talent because we fear he might get homesick, we are well and truly stuffed.

Yeah, but I'm almost 100% certain based on the news story I saw that he'll be busting to play for the west coast. We'd be foolish to draft him and I'm sure CAC and the WA recruiting scouts have sussed the boys mindset out and won't go for him based on being burned once already by the S. Thompson affair. Why would we draft the kid, develop him for 2 years and then have him go off and be a star for West coast. We're not a feeder club for other AFL teams!

They mentioned Judd in the news story as well, although I didn't get the connection because I tuned in halfway through it. I think it was something about the fact Judd was a number 3 pick and the Eagles might use their pick 3 to get Masten.

I have a hunch that being a one-eyed Eagle, Masten will be looking at the events surrounding the Judd returning to Victoria fiasco and be thinking if I get drafted by anyone other than the Eagles, I'll do the same thing to them and get some revenge on behalf of the team I supported growing up. Just my intuition though, completely unsubstantiated of course.

His idols are in fact Worsfold and Jackovich and he is the godson of the wife of the Eagle's recruiting officer. Interesting!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
