We only need to be second preference to get this thing done. Collingwood will need to sell the farm to convince WC, and they won't do that given how well they've done this year. The only options they currently have are Cloke, Pendlebury and Thomas, with Didak worth some currency. Most people would be loathe to give up a high first round draft pick for Didak (Richmond with pick 2 is a popular one), and Collingworst won't trade the other 3. Even if Collingwood were able to manufacture something to bag a top 5 pick, they would still need to come up with something better than pick 14 to subsidise it. Mcguire is having a laugh if he reckons West Coast are going to discount Judd's price because 'they owe him something' and he's 'coming back to Victoria anyway'. I can't believe he said that seriously on On the Couch.

As long as Judd is not absolutely adamant that he wants to go to Collingwood and nowhere else, then we will get him. It will be about Thursday afternoon in Trade week, and WC will be on the horn saying 'Melbourne are offering xxxx and we're satisfied with that. Collingwood are being rats and failing to cough up the cheese, so you decide; Melbourne, or Richmond in the pre-season draft...'. Suddenly his second preference is looking alot better.

Agreed for the most part Diablo, but if Judd does choose Collingwood as his only option then the Eagles are pretty much over a barrel, they either take what they can get or lose him for nothing. This whole situation sucks eggs, I know we went through it with the Scott Thompson situation a few years ago, I think we deserve some trade karma to come back our way.

Actually Scotty wanted to go back to Port (his boyhood club), did he not? Then Port wouldn't come to the party so he had to settle for Adelaide? I suppose the thing was that then the PSD was not an option to get back to Adelaide, but was Scotty really that big of a prospect at the time, that other clubs would have picked him up? I know we thought so (thats why it cut us so much when the bastard left), but I'm not sure he'd done much to that point.

Anyway the point is he ended up settling for his second preference.

He had begun to show some promise I think. Is pick 4 enough to get Judd? I would have thought we will have to let go another player as well.

From all reports, Judd was very impressed with Dean Bailey as well and no doubt that will influence him somewhat.

We must al realise that what we are presently witnessing is a game of cat and mouse. Make up your own minds as to who's who !! lol..( Do eagles squeak ? )

Its posturing for the real end game. Judd wants to go at least to a semi choice of his own. Eagles want compensation ( and dare I say..revenge !! ).. Like any auction...it all happens only after the hammer drops the first two times...all else before is just fluff and stuff.

We havent seen anything yet... as soon as his short list is announced, and being something of a pragmatist he would need to be realistic enough to know that he will get more, quicker and easier by choosing two and then stepping back whilst all hell lets loose !!

I would think if we were one of two then our chances are greater than half if that makes sense !! :)

No way will pick 4 be enough. But it is definitely something that West Coast will want (with the WA boys that will go top 10 in the draft this year). Whichever way Judd goes, we need to come through with something thats right up there straight off the top.

-If we are the first preference, then we don't want to insult West Coast or they will get antsy with us and move on.

-If we are not the first preference, then we need to come up with something that will seriously challenge any offer from Judd's first choice club. Two top 10 picks would be ideal (since we know the only threat to us in this whole situation is Collingwood  ), though not entirely practical.

Two top 10 picks is a big thing to give away for someone that might only play another 5-7 years (150 games?)

I would have though pick 4 plus either a second round pick or pick 4 and a good quality older player. No doubt the Eagles will want a forward of some sort as they have a plethora of established midfielders

It has to be more than that. Judd has proven he is one of the greatest of all time, and has some great football still ahead of him. Draft picks are a lottery. Sylvia was a No.3 pick, and we are all still waiting for him to deliver.

Me, I'm waiting for Sylvia to deliver about 40% of Chris Judd.

Pick 4 another 40%

pick 21 the remaining 20%.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
