Club choice

Melbourne

It comes down to this:

Money, power, publicity, big crowds, great facilities

OR

Melbourne

I can see the appeal of the other three clubs, but he is clearly still holding a torch for us if he wants to have a meeting. We are the odd club out.

P.S.- The Judd is taking over my brain and thought processes!

If your were Chris, which club would be most appealing to you and why?

Interesting question. Unfortunately it requires access to the thought processes of the man himself but...

Given what we know about his obvious affection for family and friends, no priority on $$$ but desire to join a club with some promise of success I would say Melbourne.

I would suggest the club play heavily on the family angle because of the clubs mentioned Melbourne is most representative of family club, more so than Collingwood (feral), Essendon (herd mentatility), Carlton (machismo)

All it comes down to is, does he want to play for Melbourne at some stage of his footy career?

If he does, then this will be the only time he would be able to, as i don't think the mfc would be interested in his services when he is 28, given the price he would command.

If Judd wants to one day play for Melbourne, that one day is now, as it will be his only opportunity to play for his beloved Dees.

If I were him I wouldn't see hawthorn to be all that unappealing... They should be successful for the next few years, they play at the G and the travel time to trainings isn't huge from his bayside home (compared to say carlton).

It wouldn't be Carlton. Why would he want to play for a side that lost the last 11 games of the season and put in generally pissweak efforts? A side that talks about a culture of success but hasn't fired a shot in 10 years and appointed a new coach on the back of four 'competitive' losses.

It wouldn't be Essendon. They handled the Sheedy exit quite appallingly and still have no replacement, they also have a shithouse midfield to work with.

It'd be Melbourne, Collingwood or Hawthorn IMO. And I think we're in a better position to bargain with WCE than those two as they wont really want to throw baby out with the bathwater in getting him.

Jaded,

I think the fact we lack these things gives us some sort of an advantage. (except for the facilities) He didn't want the fame and fortune side of it otherwise he'd have stayed with WCE. Other things motivate him.

wow, double negatives.

For me (as much as i hate to say it) i would think Collingwood would be a good fit. Play at the G, good young side, excellent facilities (spesh recovery).

On the downside Collingwood is big business hard to just hide away and play footy there.

Also Collingwood lack top picks and a willingness to trade anything decent.

Essendon and Carlton play home games at TD a ground CJ has said he finds uncomfortable to play on.

Although i think Carlton are on the improve Essendon is my pick for 08 spooners.

Melbourne i think comes across better then Essendon and Carlotn and behind Collingwood. We play on the G have A grade facilities on the way and have that x-factor of the being the club supported as a kid. Also very importantly we have a high draft pick and a plethora of potential tradeable good plauyers.

We are right in the hunt! how exciting!

I ask you ....what self respecting Demon supporter is ever going to willingly play for the Filth ????

This is just Melbourne supporters pulling for the MFC.

If Judd cares about the financial situation of the club, we are no chance.

As I already said, we can't offer Judd anything that Collingwood can't... except that he was once a Melbourne supporter.

Will that be enough? Time will tell.

No self-respecting footballer would want to be seen in front of thousands wearing that brown and gold outfit. It's a definite turn off. Judd is leaving a club with a whacky cartoon character on its jumper - that's bad enough.

Memo to start a thread about doing away with our away jumper - it must be changed if we're to entice Judd to the club - it clashes with Rebecca's dress and also has a whacky cartoon character on it.

Of course he cares about his finacial situation...he's not a NONG !! lol. he seems to care for other things greater.. he's a greeny...that COSTS money !! So here's aman who has his priorities all sorted out. . The monies on offer wil be similar form all clubs.. but Im not sure if that even matters to him. Quite possibly the ability to be part of developments outside of the normal arean may indeed appeal. And Melbourne has enough Coterie already looking ointo this apparently. Judd is already looking beyond footy.

His seems acutely aware of his place in the great scheme of things, his personal life, his family, his home etc. Gecko would fail with this man.. greed is not good for him !! lol

He seems aware of the things he can do that impact.. green your house, green your car,, surround by family..etc etc etc... It wil not have esaped him that he would IMPACT the MFC.

I wont be surprised if he opts for us !!

Just pointing out the appealing features of a club like hawthorn

In my mind Judd already knows he wants to come back to the dee's and the rest is just formalities.

Yep, this goes into the list of things we must do to get Judd:

1. Change clash jumper to suit Rebecca

2. Start using green power and recycled water in the sports drinks

3. Take part in the Middle-East peace process

4. Get Rebecca her own personal shopper

5. Create a lifesize doll of Gary Lyon to stand by his bed as he sleeps

6. Get his mum a record deal

Anything else?

Gary's first born is already on offer, is that enough?

I'm sure Gary would be willing to hold his hand to every game if required :)

If I was Chris Judd I would sin and break Gods laws in every way possible, then die just to become a Demon so I may play for Melbourne.

But you know im not Chris Judd, none of us are. Does anyone actually know how big a supporter he was....?

He may not have been the rabid supporter such as ourselves on demonland.

He could have just been a go to a few games guy. Was he a member? We don't know these things. I have plenty of mates who go for the Demons. But they do not really GO for the Demons.

If this is the case, the romanticism in the world won't work.

why not ??

He plays footy because he enjoys it.

hes going to be paid no matter where he is...so its not an issue.

eventually you learn to do things in life that bring rewards to you, not the bank balance :)

I did not mention money. Im saying that he may not have been the big Demons supporter we are making him out to be, therefore the romantic notion that he barracked for us may very well mean zero to him.

I reckon you have hit the nail right on the head.

I suspect he has a minimum figure in mind and knows he will get it where ever he plays.

So, I also suspect the highest bidder in terms of payment to Chris Judd is not going to be the decider.

I think he will be more concerned with what he sees as adequate compensation to West Coast.

So what is fair compensation in Chris Judd's mind. Low first round picks &/or emerging young players ?

Since Collingwood have no low first round picks, would they give up Pendlebury & Thomas for example ?

Similarly, would Essendon trade Ryder and ???

Will Carlton hand over their low pick(s) &/ or Murphy, Gibbs etc..?

What would Melbourne be prepared to give ? Pick 4 &/or 21 &/or Newton &/or Bate?

What I am getting at is, if you add the sentiment aspect, Melbourne are right in this mix if they want to be.

Could not have been put more eloquently. It is against every instinct he would have had growing up...If we handle the process in a professional manner there is no reason in the world why we are not in with a great chance... It feels like detiny to me with the 150th,change of coach, new home etc... Like we are on the verge of a new era... Go Dees....

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
