Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He has won 4 premierships with Essendon. In 1984, 1985, 1993 and 2000.

This does not mean that he is best coach for the Dees in 2008 - 8 seasons after he last coached a team to a Premiership.

He was one of best coaches of the 80s and 90s but is clearly not one of the best coaches of this decade.

His coaching and his list management at Essendon at Essendon since 2000 has not been what it was in the previous 20 seasons.

Why do you think the Essendon Board got rid of him - beacause they knew he was past his best.

most people dont see Sheedy as a long-term 10 year option.

what makes sheedy attractive above all else is that he is the only person who has the ability to rebuild our culture and list and recreate our image in the afl. we are currently seen as the basket case of the afl and this must change. sheedy is a once in a lifetime option who has the ability to really change MFC for the better.

the fact he has won 4 premiership, made 22 finals appearences and take bombers to a grandfinal on average every 5 seasons is a bonus.

Should Sheeds be appointed it is unlikley it wil be done in a 'long term ' manner, however than doesnt preclude him from being around 6,7,8 years. Just means everyone is being a bit prudent and realistic about things.

The four other contenders are coaches at best...Sheeds is a "Package"

Over the past 4-5 years it's been worse than ND's. That'd be acceptable if EFC were about to unleash and take a flag, but they're nowhere near it - they've been relying on older stars to carry them this season. A players survey indicates that Sheedy isn't a good communicator, and there have been criticisms about the list management/youth development considering their predicament now. :|

Rogue i agree with ur worries about trading and youth development of late at essendon.

plus sheedys weird trading tactics...campo, heffernan and cole...why?

however last years drafting performance from sheedy was outstanding: Gumbleton, Jetta, Hislop, Davey, Houli, Riemers...all fantastic picks. so maybe its not such a worry.

plus C.Cameron will still be heavily involved so shouldnt be too worried

In case any of you have missed his many interviews he often espouses his maxim that he really doesnt care too much about the losses per se. it how they lose and often you WILL lose before you start setting yourself up for the real wins..the ones that result in a premiership cup. Its not a widely held or agreed to philosophy I take it but it seems to work for him. Bit like Keatings economic ideas I suspect...lol

Sheeds just lives for the 'left field".. not all understand it. After Sheeds tinkers and the side gels.. it storms home. W e at the MFC have not experienced anything like a Sheedy juggernaut...well... except on the receiving end ..lol :P

From 02 to now it is just above the 40% mark. If you take out 06 it is over 50% for that period - remember 06 when Lloyd kicked 13 goals in the first 2 rounds and then missed the rest of the season; Hird missed 9 games and didn't complete 2 others; Fletcher missed 6? His record is still pretty good and I reckon the Bombers are not as bad as a lot of people think. He will get the job done - and his record is better than Connolly's overall.

Team full of class? Their team of the last 3 seasons has been average, not crap or terrible, but average. They havnt overachieved or underachieved at all in the last 3 seasons. I'll tell you when they did overachieve; 1993...

The Essendon list in 2007 is a basket case of Sheedy's creation. There is virtually no talent between Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher and the kids picked up in the last few years. His list management since 2000 has been nothing other than mediocre and tactically he has been overtaken by other coaches. If we could have got him in 1981 or even 1991 then that would have been fantastic but we are talking about the Sheedy of 2007. The one that was sacked by the Bombers.

Remember the criticism the Hawks got when they appointed Clarkson instead of a 'name' coach like Eade or Wallace or Matthews. The only issue the Board has to decide on is which of the applicants is most likely to coach us to our long awaited 13th Premiership. All other considerations are secondary and distant. And for mine Sheedy - for the reasons outlined above - and Connolly - just too darned nice just like Daniher - do not meet that criteria.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
