memo to all MFC players in the first half.

Travis Johnstone, Jeff White and Byron Pickett... 3 senior players who should hang their heads in shame.

Pickett can't bloody run. FFS, he is an elite athlete with zero fitness.

White was given a bath in the ruck by two newbies, and had no influence around the ground.

As for TJ, if he stopped pointing and started doing the work himself, he might become the elite player that he's capable of being.

On the bright side, Jones, Dunn, Sylvia, McLean, Newton and Bate just kept going and going and going. It won't always be this way...

Brock McLean was not good again tonight.

You are right about Pickett and TJ is a wasteful lazy footballer who plays like a millionaire with no money.

Sterling stuff in the second half by the young guys, Dogga Brown and McDonald!

We were insipid in the first half with few exceptions.

TJ is a fantastic player with the best disposal at our club. critisism is unwarranted, he played well tonight. did really really well tonight

poor post re: Johnstone RR

You have got to be joking!

TJ did nothing in the first half. LAZY, LAZY, LAZY!

I'm a big fan and I've stood up for him for as long as I can remember, but he just did not do enough tonight. Won't put himself in the contest at all.

As for Pickett, please, he did nothing and was given WOG votes by MMM. His fitness, or lack thereof, is a slap in the face to the MFC.

DD36, when Brock McLean has 150+ games under his belt and 10+ years experience, we can start comparing performances.

How about we compare McLean with Jones? <_<

I agree with you on TJ and Pickett. I cant believe we got so close with those two playing.

I thought TJ with Jones were the only midfielders that played well in the first half, when he came we looked a better side. Why would you start Brock, Sylvia and TJ on the bench, our two best midfielders and a hard footballer, then have Jamar in a forward pocket, one thing is for sure Riley will not coach us next year, he is to much like ND

Sorry about the post but in nicer terms, we are weak mentally, weak pyshically and im sick of it, the rubbish they threw up in the first half was so insipid that not one of them should be able to look neitz in the eye, they failed him, not a whimper in the first half.

We need someone to do a geelong and tell some home truths to our players and coaches, we have settled for mediocracy too long and until someone comes through the club and changes this forget about ever seeing a flag.

At the end of round 22 i hope all coaches are gone, they are useless, all of them. Drdrake is right we still have ND as coach as they have no ideas of their own.

I am still furious that not one player really stood up in the first half or took the game on, the only 2 that sort of did was junior and jones. jones does need to realise he can't break tackles very well t this level and just to put boot to the ball.

White and Jamar were terrible, we got smashed in the ruck by 2 duds, why PJ is not playing is a disgrace, jamar has nothing on him. you have had 50 games, see ya mate.

Great work, Condemned! A shocking first half, papered over by a tired performance by the Pies in the 2nd half. The anti-Johnstone faction that operate here need to realise that it was his ability to use the ball that kept us vaguely in the game in the first half, and then got us right into it in the second half. I can't believe the way some posters treat TJ in comparison to some others who seem to get off lightly.

Also, a very disappointing crowd. Only 46,000 for one of the more important moments in our clubs history. The sooner Sheedy arrives to get this place moving again the better!

Surely this figure CAN'T be true!!!!?

I seem to remember Eddie McQuire telling me that EVERYONE wants to play Colling#$% at the MCG because they ALWAYS turn out in droves.

Wasn't it THEIR home game?

As far as the first half last night goes............what we lacked was players prepared to do THE TEAM THINGS. Although I give an exception to Jones and Holland.

If I was coach I would have benched McLean for the third quarter. He was PATHETIC in the first half. At one point when Jones had one centre clearance he simple ran along side him calling for the ball and waiting for the handpass instead of shepherding for Jones. Consequently Jones got caught with the ball. In that situation I would only forgive TJ, Flash and Green because they would use the ball better.

Brock probably isn't completely to blame though; the crap game plan that has been evident from the very first pre-season game year IS; and those responsible.

Hopefully those responsible have only THREE weeks left living on our hard earned membership dollars.

Go Dees - Onward and Upward

ok heres my 2 cents worth.

1. Jones put in 100% effort for 100 % of game. He was committed throughout and is a credit to himself and his teammates. Granted he made a few judgement errors but he was also given frees against on several occassions for holding the ball with absolutely NO prior opportunity. He was caught legit once or maybe twice.

2. Jmac is an outstanding player with great skills and can read the play better than any other dee player. He knows his skill limits and plays within them. Magnificent yet again

3. TJ was brilliant- in spurts. But I feel that is how he will always be. Skills are silky. Needs big pre-season and more direction from coaches I feel (may be wrong)

4. Injuries suck. Seeing Holland go down early'ish then Bell was both typical of our season and made me feel sick. Sick of our shizenhousen luck this year.

5. Very proud of the boys after Belly went off. They seemed to grow more determined and added some much needed aggression. Pity is wasnt there from the outset.

6. Lastly but most importantly. Realised just how much Neita means to me. Got soooo excited seeing him run onto field thru the kids guard of honor. When he didnt shake his oppositions hand that was extended to him (maxwell-i forget???) was stoked to see his obvious intent. and with each goal he kicked or even got near the ball i yelled and stood up and basically went off. btw im here in tassie not at the game. Love ya Neitz. True champon

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
