AzzKikA is getting very excited about the prospect of Bate, Bruce and Mclean plating on Friday. Altho it might be better to leave them out until the travel to Subiaco.

I think they will play on Friday night.

They were all rested last week.

My thoughts are that they were rested so they could come back for Neitz' 300th.

Just a thought anyway. There's no way we won't put our best side out there for this game.

This is our Grand Final on Friday.

Going to be classic.

I think we will beat the Pies. Quite convincingly too.

Who will leave the team for Bruce, Bate and McLean?

I would have thought that Bode won't play as he didn't really have an effect on the game on the W/E.

Who else though? Brown? Frawley will be another one gawn as he is injured. Maybe Sylvia needs a run at sandy?

I thought Dunn was okay and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

Frawley won't play due to injury. Opens up for Bate.

Bode may get dropped back down for Bruce.

And I think unfortunately even though Dunn was great. If Mclean is available he will get dropped. Unfortunately.

Agreed.

He does deserve to play though. But I guess we can't have everyone.

I hope Godfrey's injury is a lengthy one - I know that sounds mean but hey, he's not good enough.

Frawley only opens up for Bate because Holland will go back onto Rocca and Bate will take his place in the forward line.

I doubt Bruce will be fit, but if so he will replace Bode.

They won't drop Dunn ... McLean if he comes in will replace Moloney who still looks 50%.

Maybe Ferguson out instead of Bode for Bruce. Certainly agree with your comment about Moloney - can't get to the contest let alone have an impact.

Ferguson will play before Bode this week.

So you rate him then?

Not his skill, but I do rate his ethic.......

and the very basic fact that he is still a member of our list and for that, and the fact he is still a person, I don't want him hurt

But that is not the point, no-one here should ever want, or celebrate when, a player to be taken down by injury, no matter who that player is.

And if you do, then that is just an appalling attitude to have.

Besides it is up to the selection committee to not select him, not for you to cheer if he gets hurt.

I wish he never got up.

His ethic is great, that's all I hear from you people.

I don't care.

So you can be the poorest player in the world but if you try hard you get a game?

It doesn't work like that.

The Demons are a good football side but when we go on the park with Godfrey we're not playing 22 we're playing 21.

Sorry if I've offended you. My apologies.

GO DEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My what?????????????

I don't rate Godfrey. Get over it. It's just my opinion.

The kid has no skill, & whoever he 'tags' gets 3 votes.

Stop your crying.

Not the point she was making. Every poster on this site at one time or another has called for a player to be dropped due to lack of form, skill, hardness, commitment, whatever.

What is unacceptable is hoping a player suffers an injury or that the injury is worse than expected.

Oh for heavens sake read the post......

I don't think he should be an automatic selection, but he should never be criticised for his work ethic attitude and dedication to the team, especially when some of our more decorated players have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. It is something that should be looked at and celebrated.

But again, it should not automatically lead to selection, but this year it has because of injuries to other players. They are the facts.

But as I have said, and you seem to have ignored, that is not the point.

As I said it is up to the selection to committee to leave him out if they want to, and I would rather then not have to pick through the rubble of injury.

And I simply find it reprehensible that any Melbourne supporter would wish, or celebrate, an injury of any kind one any of our players. It doesn't, or at least shouldn't, matter if he should or shouldn't be selected in the 22. And while I do realise that injury is the unfortunate downside of footy, I simply don't want any of our boys struck down. And Godfrey (or any of the other less cherished players) is definitely included.

And I would have hoped that fairly human sentiment was universal.

Ok, I take back my comment!

I hope he has a long career without any injuries.

Hopefully he will have his lengthy career in different colours ;)

Your one of the few.

If you look at the performances in 2007 Godders has been one of only a handfull of regural contributors & is our no one tagger. Oppositions certainly seem to have rated him as they have all targetted him in their game plan. He is not a star or most talented but way from MFC's worst player.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
