Am I living in a bygone era or are there fines for taking a player out of the team that you list on the ground? Was that ever a thing?

Just last night Naicos was a very late out (half an hour before the match started).

Do the pies get fined for that? I thought I remembered some thing about stopping clubs playing funny buggers with fines but maybe I’m losing my mind.

Should be an absolute cracker of a game of we play like last week's second half.

Planned to go down from cosmopolitan Wollogong with my son to wean him of Usa Nba ( he's six feet three and plays it so it's fair enough)

But really trying to get him to appreciate the greatest game in the world.

And I'm not bias.

It's faster than soccer and has just as immaculate goals kicked just much more of them.

It's physical. It's highly skilled. The banana kick for example.

It's the most democratic. Spargo tackling Sam Draper.

It's got the right about of biffo with nobody being killed, for the blood lusty.

Total athletes. Could probably play a lot of different sports quite successfully.

Anyway due to the cost of living we decided we couldn't afford it Sadly, I know I'm not alone.

Putting two kids through uni is draining. Especially when they live at home. Sure they work but still struggle financially ( like me)

I bought an i30 diesel wagon five years ago and was laughing how much I was saving. Now I'll be lucky to drive it soon.

I actually only got a cheap interstate mship even though I Probably won't use the tix. I'll see if I can transfer them to someone here.

But so looking fwd to this . Kayo....my gullty indulgence...... but necessary.

I'm so glad Turner is back in. Lever's form was good but Petty was average.

And woo hoo, Milkshake is back.

Jvr has gone back into his shell after his thunderous start so Milkshake and Fritta with a few others there, should be interesting and needed.

I'm glad Tracca is out because for some reason our ex players always do a number on us.

They are a good side and we can't afford to get jumped.

Win this and it really shows that we are proper competitors this year.

Hopefully our 43 point turn around has filled the team with heaps of self belief and we take home the chocolates.

I think we will have to play KP in the middle for the whole game.

He was devastating on the ball against carlton and seems to see ball...get ball...use ball well.

A genuine superstar who I don't even believe is at the peak of his prowess yet.

Jvr needs a good game. I'm hoping at least 3 goals. He can't afford not to impact another game as it will really hurt his confidence which is probably low after such a big start.

Looking for big games from Chin, Windsor, Steele...who is a gun, Fritta( again...shades of GF Fritta,) Tmac and mainly Sparrow.

The latter probably played his best game in years.

I can't say I have a great deal.of faith in him which seems harsh after his last efforts. I know he's not lazy...his tackle counts is always high. In other words he tries hard.

But as I've posted numerous times he's just not a ball magnet. I've suggested he's best played fwd. He's good for a couple of goals and an accurate kick. Maybe a sub.

But if he plays consistently he didot will be a team changer. Alas he's 25 and we've seen a handful of games like this from him.

I've said before he's like playing with a man down and under Goody was always in. Maybe we lacked depth but I, and not a few here, thought he did not warrant so many games.

I hope so much he mocks this sentiment from me on Sunday.

So a big game against the number one team in the comp and at home, thank goodness.

I think we are a genuine chance.

And after the first quarter against carlton last week, I had almost given the year away.

Good Lord what a fairweather supporter.

Forgive me oh ye Gods of oval ball with great sense of humor in this time of footy long weekend heaven.

For I no know not what I do nor say.

But may the ball bounce true and straight for us, stick to our hands when marking, guide it always through the big sticks, rain down accurate handballs and curse all maggots making poor decisions against us.

And all the Mfc fans said , Amen.

Ps..I haven't watched all of the last two games except last week. Has Jvr been rucking unlike the first game and if so, has this possibly impacted his game? 6 goals then zip...zip is very odd. Granted , I think delivery v St Kilda was very different. The game seemed faster and there was lots of room fwd. But what's changed?

I really thought he turned the corner but if he fails to fire again, id be worried. Hopefully I'm totally wrong and he has a ripper. Let's hope it's a cornucopia of goals for us from several forwards.

I remember that was a thing at some point in the past, so you’re not losing your mind. Well, you might be losing your mind but this isn’t evidence of it. 😂

I guess clubs can argue that the player was deemed fit to play right up until just before the game 🤷‍♀️

If you have to make changes for injury, Turner in for Jiath and Melksham for Cross is a pretty good deal.

I'm not going to pretend I'm confident, but I'm certainly going into this game on the hunt. The expectations basically make this a free swing.

Sleep deprivation

Considering Melksham had 11 scoring shots and kicked 5 goals against the Suns last time, I reckon he's a pretty good 'In'.

Turner in for Jiath is an upgrade.

I'm not sure what we do with Kolt. When he went out of the centre bounce/stoppage we dominated with Sparrow, Steele and Pickett in there.

I absolutely hate that Rowell is back, but I'm clinging onto hope that he's underdone.

I thought Kolt was very good offensively and defensively when he moved to half back last week. I would be looking to settle him there and shift Lindsay upfield into the wing/half forward rotation or as part of smaller back 7 if we push Petty or Turner forward at any point.
I would be backing in Steele, Sparrow, Pickett with Culley and Windsor through the midfield to play accountable two way footy with no tag.

I reckon Daniel Turner may play forward this weekend. I know for a fact that he has been told by King that he will swing between back and forward this year depending on certain match ups as he rates his versatility and marking ability.

It may not even happen this weekend but dont be surprised if there are games where he ends up forward.

I heard the AFL was bringing in mid season trading and Fritchy will be traded to GWS for Hogan. 😁

GWS doesn’t mind that they get Fritta sans one foot and one *hand?

Nah not at all, infact the AFL has already agreed to a million dollar bionic replacement for him, that is also not included in their FD spending 😉

I think the emergence of Howes as a bonafide dependable role player makes this possible. And very handy.

Oh yeah forgot to mention about that.

Part of his deal is he gets his own 24hr hairdresser, disguised as a water girl onfield, that is also not part of the salary cap.

Yep, Howes has been great this year and underrated in terms of doing his role.

He kept Will Hayeard quiet last week and won a crucial contest in the last quarter which shows he is starting to have the belief at this level. He has hardly been beaten this year.

By the end of the year, Howes will be closing in on 50 games which is where we start to see players hit their straps earlier on.

the fine is, from memory, if you bring a player in who is not listed as an emergency

there was no problem with naicos being removed from the starting side; it's often been later during on-ground warm-up 5 mins before the bounce, not 30 mins before as naicos was (for instance, logan morris for the bears debuted as a super late late call-up)

now, back to us...

king comes from the cats - if fritsch is a late, late out, it wouldn't be a surprise

Goody did well by a lot of players to help them reach their full potential, Howes was not one of them. Playing him as last man in the goal square was torture to watch. Loved what he's brought this year.

I think Kolt will revolve through centre bounce, half forward and half back on an as needs basis. We've been crying out for that sort of player - we tried Salem and Rivers with limited success (good defensively but not much at hitting the scoreboard). Fritsch probably wont play and Jake will take his role and even better, make Andrew accountable as he loves leading up and then getting out the back - will really work well with Mihocek. They've gone with Walter so to have the 4 tall defenders will work well with us and still allow Petty to do the relieving ruck role. Would love to see Kentfield get the replacement for Fritsch but I think they will give him a proper first game notification. Because they went with the 4 tall defenders I think it unlikely they take Heath which leaves Laurie to come in.

Disco playing forward would make it add up better. Otherwise I can’t see how we’re having Disco, TMac, Petty and Lever all in the same back line.

Not much difference between Disco and CJ

The best possible ins. Turner has been getting better each season and it might take Pets some time to reinvent reinventing himself back to his old role.

He was for reasons I'll never fathom (please don't say depth or lack of thereof) played for almost 3 years out of his very good role as a defender.

So we needed Disco's dancing while defending decisively.

And for Milkshake if he's in form then Ggs are in trouble. He's really hard to manage up, like for like. He's not a giant but he's a ball of just about all muscle and has a decent amount of agro which he controls and seems direct well. Decent leap but his main skill is guarding the drop zone and accurate goal kicking ( especially from the boundaries).

And while Jvr has faded out, Fritta showed some of his G.F. greatness.

Hopefully some of our tall recruits will contribute and while I'm happy about Disco, Lever is back on board. Whatever King has done with Sparrow, it would make a huge difference if he keeps playing like last round. So Im very happy with the ins.

With kP in the middle supported by the man known as Steele, we should win.

But a decent start is essential.

Gcs won't wilt in the last like Carlton.

As mentioned previously good news re CP out because every ex player of the Mfc always does a number on us. Except maybe for Sam Frost. Though he had his moments when with us but it was often heart in mouth stuff. ( A two way excitement machine).

So us by a decent five goals minimum and to prove we are genuine competitors this year by taking the top scalp. I suppose there is no bottom scalp( just metaphorically)...I'll stop now before I go there). Sorry.

It's this damn Sulfasalazine and insomnia.

I better self ban on game day.

Happy Easter or whatever folks.

Collingwood, so called “100k member powerhouses” got just over 40k against GWS on a Friday Night in a 50k seat stadium and the Dogs got 28k against the same opposition at home.

Really hope our fans turn up and push 35k+ and put the fake narrative that we don’t attract crowds to bed. Would also stick it up Judas in the process while he plays in front of 8k crowds.

I’m optimistic it could happen, because against St Kilda, the crowd was 40k but I could have sworn only 6-8k Saints fans turned up.

I could see that happening, but i suspect Laurie might come in.

What we really need is our medium utilities (HF, HB. mid, wing etc) kicking more goals.

We've seen some improvement in this space with Langdon, Chin, Sharpy, Culley and Langford last week all bobbing up for goals this season. Kolt is perfect for that role as he won't have to be asked twice to have got and goal and he is excellent, accurate kick

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
