What do you all think our new coach will look for in the next drafts . I would think another TALL mobile ruckman, a quick one grabber Centre 1/2 forward/back, a couple of 185 cm flanker types that are fast and have two sided ability, and probably a couple of real HARD NUT utility types that NEVER GIVE IN and can rotate through flanks and midfield when required. Probably need to have another large induction of pace as well. Mix all this in with our existing young guns, a new coaching panel and we might be looking at a bit more success.

we need a CHF.

also a CHB....although people forget that rivers has been out all year.

but another tall defender would be nice. i see rivers as being able to take the 2nd tall.

Fast skillfull midfielder, ball magnet with polish, Rhys Palmer from WA averaged over 30 touches and kicked 5, 2 ,3 goals in the recent under 18 championship.

we have enuff hard nuts as it is, i think we need a fast skillfull running type aka trent cotchin. or as suggested rys palmer.

Bloody oath, as good as Bate and Sylvia are they're not true CHF's and they're needed more in the midfield.

It's a pity we won't finish bottom this year because we would have certainly fixed that position.

I don't think we need a CHF, the role has changed no longer do teams kick to a contest at CHF it is always trying to hit someone on a lead or by themselves. we have a few options 190cm+ that are good runners and can play the new age CHF, Bate, Dunn, Garland and when Miller was on song a few years back he was a good lead up target.

We need to add speed and skill to our midfield, all our midfielders are one paced and more workman like. With Mclean, Jones, Sylvia we have enough hard nuts around the ball, we need someone that can receive accelerate carry and hit targets.

The MFC need:

- A young ruckman to replace White as #1 ruck

- A CHF

- A quick midfielder, that also goes in a gets it

- A tall back around 196cm (who is also agile), to tackle the gorillas or hold down CHB

Come draft and trade time the best choices to fill those roles

- Robert Warnock (trade)

- Lachlan Henderson (draft)

- Trent Cothcin (if he is available)

- Tom Collier (draft, even though he is only 192cm)

Realistically we would only be able to get 1 or 2 of them, 3 if we're extremely lucky

I think what the club needs to pick up in the draft are the best players they can. Don’t try to fill a position with your draft pick because 1) you don’t know how they will turn out, 2) you don’t know what your needs will be in 4 or 5 years time when they develop and 3) if you end up with too many of a type (eg talls) then you’ve got good trades to offer for what you need. Use trades to fill immediate gaps not the draft.

An example of what not to do is the tough CHB we used our 1st pick on about 6 years ago (can’t even remember his name) because the club thought that was what we needed. He was much lower on the ratings than the pick we used and he never came good.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
