Twomey mostly kept cards close to the chest for the phantom tonight.

Cumming looking likely to Richmond. Essendon getting 9 and having Dovaston or Pickett in the frame (might also see them taking guys ahead of us and leaving a player to fall through)

The other thing the likely trades indicate is no team put a first on the table for 9 or 11, so are unlikely to do so for 8. North’s future 2nd was the best option for Carlton.

Wonder if Essendon meeting Pickett is to try and keep us honest.

“If you trade out pick 8 so another club can grab Sharpe don’t expect to pick up Pickett with a later pick”.

Did Cal mention what time his Phantom Draft is being released?

I had that thought too, especially given the timing of all this.

Fingers crossed for a Taylor and Sharp double.

Would be a dream result. Unlikely, but that’s what dreams are there for.

All this X. Taylor talk about him falling through to us has me believing, but at the same time setting me up for absolute disappointment.

I’ve been much more apathetic this draft than 23 and 24 given we seem to be just outside the top end, but Taylor sliding to us would change that

Pray for XT 🙏

I'm starting to feel the same.

I skipped half an hour of a work event last year to sit in a toilet stall and find out if Adelaide took Draper or Langford. (My boss actually sent out a colleague to find out if I had food poisoning.)

Probably not quite the same this year - and no Wednesday night work function to drag me away from the draft - but "will Taylor fall to us" has a vageuly similar feel.

Should be 5pm

Yeah last year was hectik

Really intrigued which way we go with these early picks

Sounds like Nairn is a lock ?

If none of Robey , X Taylor, Cumming or Farrow get through who do we pick ? Do we take Sharp or Grij or Dovaston even though we don't seem to be linked to Sharp or Grij in the media ?

Or do we look to trade down a bit and maybe look at getting Lindsay or Pickett , O Taylor or even Phillipou or Ludowyke or some one like that ?

hopefully we get two of our preferred picks through , but ESS getting pick 9 off Carlton would change things

I'd be thrilled with either of Lindsay or Pickett - you can throw XT into that mix too.

Can't say I really know much about Nairn, had to look him up when @BC_1718_DC came through with the mail last week, but I like the look of him. I think if we get Nairn plus any of those others we'll be pretty well set and do well out of this year, even if it wasn't overly what I was expecting from us draft-wise.

Nain seems to me to be a spargo replacement. High pick for a role player

Pretty significant upgrade on Spargo though - kicks multiple goals, gets a lot of the footy, has great running capacity and is 6’2” vs 5’8” making him an aerial threat too.

Chalk and cheese, one might say.

They are not similar players. Spargo being a clever, fall of the ball small forward (173cm) whilst Nairn is long striding, high leaping, marking medium forward (188cm).

They won't be playing the same role at AFL level (or indeed any other level). A closer comparison in role (well, at least to this point in his career) for Nairn might be Mitch Hannan.

Good comparison. I'd be a bit disappointed if Nairn was only as good as Hannan above his head at AFL level.

True, he looks better overhead although Hannan was a good leaper (it didn't translate as well to AFL). Nairn is much more conventionally good overhead and appears to have much more feel for the game.

It's only a comparison of style to this point in his career. It's certainly not a comparison of quality as there's no stage of Hannan's career, no matter how shallow the draft might be, where he could have been considered to be worth a first round pick.

That's what I'm hoping. Purely in the marking area, more Logue than Hannan.

So Cal says Farrow and Nairne, with Essendon going Taylor and Sharp (and Dovaston at 9 with pic swaps) and Rich going Cumming and Robey.

How we feel about that? Another WA boy...?

I think he is more than just a role player. I spoke to an AFL recruiter today who has a very high opinion of him and he is not out pf place in the 1st rd. He reckons if we get Taylor and Nairne then we should incredibly excited. He wasn’t 💯 certain that Taylor would get to us

Perfectly fine. He is a total football head, doesn't follow one club and instead has every AFL team's jersey in his wardrobe. I think he would be STOKED to be playing on the MCG, especially when he hits his peak and we're playing in packed finals games 😜.

He can bunk with one of the other WA boys in Rivers, JVR, Kolt, Luker who will help him work through any homesickness.
