I'd be going Dovaston, Lindsay and somehow Pickett.

I’ve watched a few clips today of players likely to available around 7 & 8 and Lindsay for me is by the best kick in that range.

He's a beautiful kick, but if he's not capable of becoming an effective midfielder then he's not worth one of our early picks.

If he is then no problem, get him. I haven't seen enough to know.

We need to be drafting an elite mid from one of our 2 top 10 live picks.

Any 2 from this group would be good

Robey, Grlj, Lindsay, Cumming, Hibbins-hargreaves, X. Taylor, Greeves, Dovaston, Farrow

Whether we trade up or hold our picks and see what falls through the cracks

I've watched a few of the videos of Cumming and I don't really see it, he reminds me a bit of Josh Ward

Might be a 12 month delay on that

I think this is the problem, we (myself included) have / had a mindset of a need for instant replacement for Trac and Oliver. Many were jumping up and down until we signed Steele who is as close to as we could get a replacement for Oliver. So now we just need to draft an elite a mid to replace Trac and all is good again. From the clips I’ve watched of Robey, Dovaston and Lindsay, Lindsay for me is by far the best kick and one of the biggest knocks of the games of Trac and Oliver was their kicking. His profile says small defender / mid at 183cm but from the vision looks to play a half back distributor role, obviously this can change once he matures in the AFL system. We shouldn’t be picking a mid just for the sake of it, even if we drafted another Langford how much would that influence where we finish next season? We can go after another mid with our first pick in 2026. We need more players that can kick and another small fwd with natural ability.

Lindaay and Pickett for me.

I think it's 8 and our F1 for 2 and 13 and we promise not to take WC's WA prospect at 7. Our F1 has a lot of value, clubs will think we finish 14th or worse next year.

But we'd really want the player at 2 to do this.

Yes it probably would take that and yes we would really have to want that player - I can see us being quite bad while King gets us to play the want he wants. We don’t have the skills in the transition game and we don’t have the mids in the clearance game - unless we are extremely disciplined and miscast as poor kicks and decision makers - we are going to have a top 4 pick next year.

I'm not convinced there's a superstar in this draft anyway. I think we'll get two very good players from the top 10 that will make us better, but there's no Oliver 2015 or Trac 2014 in this draft that I can see. You could see them ooze class and contested ability at underage level. There's no one of that calibre this year.

The club have intimated as much previously and even looking at the recruiting videos of last year's crop, there's no one that gets close to say Xavier Lindsay from this year's class.

Which is a shame, because I reckon we're short at least 1 A grade talent amongst our young crop.

I watched all of the available footage on you tube of Dovaston and I’m not sold on him. Kicks a nice goal from the boundary and some other regulation set shots but also misses a couple, nothing that screams natural fwd craft. Field kicking is average to ordinary with a few up and under / turn over kicks, fumbles a bit in certain passages and plays for the high free kick once or twice. Not a lot of vision of his marking ability. As I said earlier in the week he’s very busy buzzing around everywhere and runs hard to link up and create opportunity but doesn’t seem very damaging by foot and that’s what we need.

how would you compare his game to say chandlers who has played that small forward role for 3 years now, as the pressure player i50, only this year he graduated out of that somewhat out of necessity with ANB departure and spargos injuries but i dont see anything in dovastons game that doesnt suggest he cant develop a nicer kick, he'll get stronger and quicker and be able to break tackles and get into space around the ground better giving himself more time to kick

I agree. So we either go Humphrey again next year or hope we can land one with our two first rounders next year.

I actually think we're two A graders short. But anyway, time will tell.

Plays too much like Tom Sparrow for my liking..

Potentially. Tbf tho Sparrow in 2021 was tracking to be a future gun and definite member of the leadership team. If he progressed as anticipated it would’ve been great. His stagnation has confused me more than just about anyone else’s in recent times, deadset plodder these days.

Yeah dont know.. I didnt see anything in 2021 that suggested he was going to be a future gun.

Agree, I think we 2 more A graders and a few role players that are elite in at least one area. Hopefully with a coaching and development staff someone already on our list might come on and show more than expected.

Normally I’m all for being aggressive with our future picks but the more I watch of this draft crop the more I think we should just go for role players with an elite skill or two and save our future picks and hopefully pick up a couple of A graders next year.

I wonder if Port would do F1 for 7 or 8 to get access to Schubert or Marsh?

What else do we get?

I’m curious how the draft watchers rate Josh Lindsay’s contest work. I love his kicking and decision making but my one question mark is if he’s maybe a little bit soft?

Not a draft watcher but I have read he’s spent live the contested stuff much and is more likely to stay a defender rather than spend time in the mid.

Sign him up for some Viney jiu jitsu after we draft him.

I'm fairly agnostic on whether we should look to trade up in order to obtain Robey, or if we should take both picks to the draft. Taking both would help us address our needs in multiple areas, but Robey probably looks a slight cut above some of the other potential top draftees. If we're taking both 7&8 to the draft, Grlj would be one of the players I'd take, provided he's on the board at that stage. He has a beautiful kick, moves well and would add polish to a side which is significantly lacking ball use and spread. Hibbins-Hargreaves would be the other player I'd take, some very nice x-factor and good athletic traits. I know some may be put off by virtue of his role as a utility, rather than having a defined role, but I could see him adding to our ball movement and F50 finishing in a tangible manner.

I really like Xavier Taylor, but he's probably competing for a spot in a list area where we're already pretty stacked.

I'm with @Bombay Airconditioning , I'm not sold on Dovaston. Admittedly I've only seen recorded footage of him, so this will likely lack nuance but I'm not particularly enamoured by his ball use or marking and for the most part, I am somewhat sceptical about using high picks on small forwards (cf. Murphy Reid / Pickett). For mine, nothing really stands out about him and I wasn't sold on what I saw. Though if we do pick him up I won't be tearing the place down, but I doubt he'll be able to fix his kicking. Very few average / poor kicks come into the league and tangibly improve.

I'm really hoping Pickett will be there with our Pick 37 too.

If Robey was available, of course he'd be the player I'd take at 7, hands down. But there's little chance he'll be available.

I think Demonland will become mayhem if we draft draft both Xavier Taylor and Josh Lindsay. The ensuing confusion over whether posters are referring to Xavier Lindsay, Josh Lindsay or Xavier Taylor will be quite something.

I love Xavier Lindsay but... ooh geeze. That's worrying.
