As long as he's not squeamish, I wouldn't be too conclusive over a teenager's ability to adapt enough to compete adequately at AFL level with a developed body.

I'm not saying you are, by the way. I get you're pointing out potentially well-founded concerns.

IMV, you can't really learn it. You either have it or you don't.

Lindsay and Dovaston for me.

A forwardline of:

Kolt Mihocek Chandler

Dovaston JVR Fritta

With Langford, Viney and others resting forward is nice.

very unexcited by dovaston.. despite the need for a small, i don't think we'll select him. hopefully there's a better small in next year's draft. i'd rather get a few more mids. need foot-skills and speed and another young inside mid to grow..maybe a KPF/B if one is there at our pick and JT likes what he sees.

Cody Curtin brother of Dan. Very intriguing write up ....

A powerful key forward who can also provide back-up in the ruck, Curtin was playing as a key defender in the WAFL Colts for much of last year but now looks best suited to the attacking end of the ground. A strong physical presence inside-50, he excels in one-on-one contests, has good hands overhead, is a penetrating kick and generally finishes off his work in front of goal. The knock has been Curtin’s agility, but he possesses reasonable endurance for a player of his size. The younger brother of Adelaide young gun Daniel, Curtin bookended his under-18 national championships campaign for Western Australia with three-goal games against Vic Country and Vic Metro but was quieter in the other two matches. Curtin then had a monster day out upon his return to Claremont in the WAFL Colts, kicking six goals from 16 disposals and eight marks (three contested), before being sidelined by shin splints. He returned in the run to finals, though, and kicked six goals from 10 disposals in Claremont’s premiership triumph over South Fremantle. The haul saw Curtin finish as the second-highest goalkicker in the WAFL Colts this season with 32.9 from his nine games.

Agree.. Lindsay and dovaston are stand outs in the draft range…

Please make them VIC boys.... the go-home factor is starting to get annoying...

Think we need to target speed and skill to help with transition and that mid forward connection and a more offensive game style overall. For me Grilj, Lindsay. Would be happy with Dovastan but know we have Prasaad in our back pocket next year. Agree with previous comments we need another good high pressure small forward that will impact the scoreboard and with potential to go through midfield as a rotation with Kossie.

I hope we take 7/8 to the draft now and not get too cute splitting picks and trying to move up just a few spots.

Life is all about degrees. You can't become what you're not, but you can become adequate at what you're not good at.

Besides, I haven't seen anywhere enough of him to trust the opinion of others.

We all know why Simon Black, who was a gun at under 18 level slid to the 30s. He was considered too slow. What a mistake that was.

You can make it at AFL level without pace. That's a great truism. If you're not tough enough though you can't lift it a notch or two and be competitive. I'm not talking necessarily about Ollie Greeves, I'm speaking generally. But we'll agree to disagree.

Of course you won't make it if you're not tough enough. But I doubt you'll get on an AFL list if you're not tough enough. I haven't seen enough of him.

I’m surprised there’s not more love for Hibbins-Hargreaves, yeah he’s got a lot to work on but he has pure class. Good size, looks a good athlete, clean hands and makes really good decisions.

Obviously needs a thorough medical and will need to have his defensive game coached up but profiles as a modern midfielder who excels in transition.

It is good to be back in the draft at 7 & 8.

I have watched a few highlight reels and read the talk about a weaker draft/academy selections. At this stage of the 2019 draft the media types had Jackson rated 15-20 and Kossie was 50+. I am sure JT will be all over it.

Yeah, can’t remember about Jackson but there was a lot of talk that Kozzie was picked too high.

Good point.

Yeah I'd take him and Greeves

Would of course like to try to get Duursma, but he’s now a virtual lock in for pick 1 to the Eagles. (We will probably be one of many clubs who will keep in touch and eventually be asking him to “come home”). Then it’s Cooper Duff-Tytler at 2 for the Eagles in my view. Then it’s a jumble as bids as likely bids on the academy and father son picks come through!

As it stands today , my picks at 7&8 from the likely available players …

️Sam Grlj - best comparison is Butters or Rozee. Would be a perfect fit for the Dees future midfield. He had the speed and sidestep and can repeat run. Whilst he needs upskilling, his base is definitely AFL quality. (Unfortunately I think the Tigers or Bombers will grab him ahead of us)

️Josh Lindsay - who’s the best kick in the draft? Lindsay is. He is super composed and makes good decisions. Was a potential number 1 pick at the start of the year. Some have questioned pace but I see him being smart enough and good over 5-10 metres. I do like the fact that his coaches say he’s a natural leader If he’s available, he’s a must pick ! Plays like ?? Perhaps Errol Gulden , as he’s such a damaging kick with the footy. We would love to have such a skilled user of footy in a red & blue jumper

🕊️ Lachie Dovaston - who’s the best small forward in the draft? Dovaston. Has comparisons to Nick Watson but doesn’t have the electric pace over 5 metres like Watson. Dovaston is smart. Clever with his skill and goalkicking IQ. He’s maybe not a top 10 rated player in the draft but works as a “future need selection”.

🤩Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves is the “smoky” choice for the Dees with say pick 8. There’s something about him that gives AFL traits. He’s similar in style to Hugh McCluggage. He can win the footy but also play out wide and hurt you in the scoreboard. He kicked plenty of goals for the Stingrays. In the 4-5 games I saw at the Stingrsys, he was clearly a standout player. He wins it and can connect with the footy through run and carry. He could reconnect with his former Stingrays teammate in Harvey Langford.

There probably is in Arki Butler. That said, there are probably better midfielders in next year’s drafts than who we will be targeting this year, it doesn’t mean you pass on them because of a prospective talent. In many ways each draft is a lottery and you can’t win without buying a ticket

Further to that was Rays captain this year. Over the course have the last month have seen him regularly doing extra work with the Rays strength and conditioning coach in preparation for the draft combine.

Tauren Ah- Mu and Callum Smith were also a part of these sessions along Mizuki and Nalu Brothwell who may get picked in the AFLW draft.

I never saw Toby Sinnema, will try and find out why. Hoping it’s because Melbourne have already committed to him.

He’s certainly come on this season as a bolter up the order. His pace over 10-15 metres will definitely appeal to clubs.

That's insane. That article was at the end of October too! So less than a month later, Kozzy jumped from the late 2nd round to mod 1st round. JT absolutely nailed that draft.

Incredible recruiting from JT to nail both Dogga and Kozzy, and very handy that Rivers slid to the 30s too!
