Hey that was my question 🤣

Reading the tea leaves I was getting the sense that we didn’t rate Grij as highly

Disappointing if that’s the case as I feel he has the tools to become a mid in the Butters mould

But as always in JT we trust

This is interesting because its looking likely that Both Cumming and Sharp will be gone by our picks which would only leave Grjl as the only midfielder super left in that top 10 range..

Yeah, I'm a bit underwhelmed by what it looks like we'll do, tbh. Personally think that if Grlj and Lindsay were both available getting them in would go a long way to transforming our side with some great ball movement.

I'm not burning the house down and at the end of the day we'll need to hold judgement, but this is the first draft in a long-time I'm feeling pretty uninspired.

Strong agree

Honestly it feels like we fall just outside the top end of this draft (and even that isn’t as inspiring as previous years)

I trust we’ll get two solid players but it’s chalk and cheese compared to Langford and Lindsay last year

FWIW, if it's looking like we're not going to take a slider like Grlj (presuming he slips), I'm becoming more confident we'll look at Pickett with one of those selections.

I was probably generalising, but we had a whole list of top end talent come through the doors that for a variety of reasons failed to become long term A grade players, i'll accept it was probably harsh to include Bartram specifically, but when you've got Trengove, Watts, Strauss, Toumpas, Morton, Blease, Cook and so on all taken as high end picks and basically none become A grade players, and really only Watts even became a consistent B grade player, that's more than just bad luck recruiting.

Watts was fine, he just played in a garbage team and was given very little help.

Perhaps with Windsor, we already have a speedster with suspect ball use.

Farrow has the potential to slot right in at HB, has better ball use and some scope to go into the midfield later.

We must have watched a different player. Old one arm in the air Wattsy was very concerned about his onfield well being.

If we're looking into a tall from my very limited viewing & knowledge I would hope it is Ludowyke....not so sure about Schubert.

I have to admit I didn't know that I thought it was a minimum of 6 rookies. All good then

White can just go to the rookie draft if we unconditionally promise to take him as a rookie father and son. Financially it is better for the club as rookies have a lesser impact on salary cap even though you might pay them more. Having said that I don't know the current rule and am relying on past rules.

Sorry I’ve butchered the reply and don’t know how to fix it but anyway it wasn’t a knock on Schubert I was just talking about how when you play 4 tall forwards at Casey who are all young it can stunt there development and I hope your right but I’d still draft a mid rhis year as I still don’t think butters would entertain the thought of us

Agree. We've lost 2 of our best midfielders and nee to replace them first. Long term developing forwards are also what we want but need the other first.

Gliderol is getting a bargain whatever they’re paying for sponsorship

It not only killed off any leg speed he had, it markedly killed of his strength over the ball which was an asset pre injury.

Wasnt Trengove suspended for a 'sling' tackle against Dangerfield who claimed concussion and then played next week and kicked 6 goals?

My strong dislike for Dangerfield started them. Its only gotten stronger

Are we locking in the Cumming + Farrow double?

I honestly think Essendon, even Richmond could reach for Cumming.

He did mention in a recent YT video that the Dees might still be into Lindsay. I’m not saying he’s a mid.

I hope so. The Dons might get Cumming first though. I’m thinking Farrow is looking very likely at this stage.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
