I understand your view, but if Humphrey officially declares he wants to come back to Victoria then he's a chance to be involved. It really depends on how willing Humphrey is prepared to be to declare his homeward intentions. If he's wishy washy then I agree it won't happen.

I think Craig Cameron has turned into a bit of Adrian Dodoro wannabe so this where it can be difficult if they are declaring that Humphrey wont be traded under any circumstances.

I do agree with you though is that if Humphrey does come out and nominate us then it will certainly throw a spanner in the works

Yes this exactly!! Something must have happened that no one knows about for this guy, who apparently loved his club so much (and we all believed him) to want to go seemingly so desperately. You don't change like that for no reason.

I wonder if we'll ever find out what it was and then we'll all understand. Not that its necessarily our business (well it kind of it) but god it'd be nice to get some clarity on what has happened because it must be something pretty significant.

IMHO, I think Trac sees himself very much as a performer. On the field, off the field, in front of a camera, in the kitchen. I think he’s one of those people who is very good at saying what he thinks is the right thing to say, and what people want to hear. But does he mean it? Not necessarily. I’d take everything he’s said in the past with a grain of salt.

CHRISTIAN PETRACCA TO GOLD COAST

That leads us into the Suns’ most important move — operation land Petracca.

It mightn’t be that easy though, for Melbourne would want to be well compensated for the contracted four-time All-Australian.

But his nomination to head north instead of Adelaide is a win for Melbourne given Gold Coast’s surplus of assets including three-first round picks — potentially four if it gets St Kilda’s Pick 7 for Sam Flanders.

The first port of call for the Demons would be Bailey Humphrey, as unlikely as that would be.

For the Suns have said Humphrey won’t be traded, despite the 21-year old meeting with Melbourne officials and clearly being open to a return to Victoria with multiple clubs circling.

Let’s just pretend Humphrey isn’t available, for then it becomes a question of which party has to give up more (for the record, we’d say Melbourne).

That would make Gold Coast’s Pick 7 it gets for Flanders the centrepiece of a deal with the Demons.

Melbourne, who doesn’t currently have a first-round pick, would want another first rounder thrown in on top of that.

The Suns would be prepared to do that — and say, give up pick 14 or 17 — if it meant their remaining capital was enough to secure their academy players.

Or if beyond the two highest rated of those academy prospects, Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson, if Gold Coast was prepared to forgo one or more of the others.

At the end of the day, it’s still a much cheaper cost than Charlie Curnow and the Suns should get Ugle-Hagan for very little, if anything.

What gets deal done

-Melbourne receives Pick 7, Pick 17

-Gold Coast receives Christian Petracca, Pick 26

No, i havent said that at all.

The reality is we will get an early pick. Thats a given. Whether thats pick 7 alongside pick 13 perhaps, who knows.

If the club wants players then we need to get realistic. They're not sending pick 7 and Humphrey for instance. I think its going to be incredibly hard to get Humphrey involved at all.

If it was me personally I would be asking for Will Graham with pick 7. Graham will be an up and coming star in years to come who might find it hard to squeeze in with all these academys coming through. He is a talent who would slot well into a midfield next year.

Rubbish. Humphrey ATM is nowhere near as good as Trac. Humphrey and pick 7 is a minium. Graham you got to be joking? You are undervaluing Trac.

No one has said he is as good as Trac.. but he is a star on the rise of the competition and GC will be reluctant to let him go at all which they have been very adamant of unless he comes out and requests a trade back to Victoria and even then I think Gold Coast will be still reluctant to use him as part of a trade.

Fox are kidding themselves? Pick 7 and a pick upgrade in a shocking draft. That is certainly devaluing a Norm Smith Medalist. If that deal is done Lamb gets the sack.

Would Curno be worth a pick 7?

We are reluctant to let Petracca go he's still got 4 years on his contract. If Humphrey isn't part of the trade it doesn't get done. You think he can't stay I beg to differ.

Hell no. Curnow is a star I'd be wanting one of their best players for him or he stays just like Trac.

Humphrey has a contract but if he says he wants to leave how is that different to Petracca?

The fact that we have met with Humphries is a clear sign that if Humphries says he wants to come to Melbourne then Brisbane will include him in a trade for Trac. My take is we will land Humphries + pick 7 with some later pick swaps to help GC get the points for its academy picks. We need best 22 midfielders who are under 25 years old to replace Trac and Oliver and not 18 year old kids who will take 3 - 5 years to mature, otherwise we would be better of keeping Trac.

This works for GC as Trac is the cherry on top in their premiership pursuit and lets face it - how often does a 4 x All Australian, Premiership Player and Norm Smith medalist with at least 4 years of good footy ahead come up in the market?

Hmm.

"In terms of our overarching strategy for this period, our focus is simple; we will explore every opportunity to strengthen our list." Guerra

"Whatever happens about Christian's future, any decision that is made will be made in the best interests of the Melbourne Football Club." Lamb

"if Christian chooses to leave it has to be on our terms. It has to be fantastic for our footy club. King

If you have anything to backup your "have gone on and on about wanting players not pics" from Guerra, Lamb or King, I'd be interested in seeing it.

It may well be true, but the club aren't stupid enough to come out and publicly say it and then have to walk it back when it turns out to be not achievable.

It's a commercial negotiation. All the rest is just vacuous posturing.

I know the strategy and what has been said but will be interesting to c what actually happens compared to what has been said. Time will tell.

Petracca ain't staying mate.

The club want his salary off the books quick smart.

Unless we are giving the salary to someone else it’s not going to matter. We are paying 95% of the cap atm.

Dont think we will get Humphrey at all as part of the deal.

But I wouldnt be surprised if Alex Davies may be the player that they ask for in terms of wanting something back along with an early pick.

Tall inside midfielder who has had to bide his time due to Anderson and Rowell taking up all the midfield minutes. Everytime I have watched him at AFL level he seems to do well.

He'd get far greater midfield minutes with us instead of GC.

Alex Davies : GRV Rule 69A, Failing to pursue with due commitment.

Observed a few times this past year.

Bring in Kids who win 3 games in two years and leave because we are terrible. That worked wonderfully under Neeld

You never know they might win 23 games in two years. Better than what we were doing !

Still disappointed if we lose Oliver !

Player, #7 and #14 in exchange for Trac +26

Move 7and 14 to a very high pick in 26 draft. Plus we have compo for Spargs, trade for McVee and potentially Oliver as well. Package up those if we have a targeted player and get high in this years draft, or push em all out to next year!

Take white, sinner and the big Cat b guy as our 3 this year…

Someone start an eediots guide to pick swapping, points value and anything else associated with trades pls. Very slow learner over here.

We don't need picks in a terrible draft. We need players.

Could go towards Humphrey if he nominates us or even Butters or Ben King next year.

It's Melbourne or he stays at the Suns. We're the only ones with capital (Trac) to get a deal done.

And Humphrey doesn't meet Melbourne without the Suns' blessing or without some interest in joining the MFC.

I thought you were saying we’re not going to get Humphrey but would still want Trac’s salary off the books? We’d also be a long shot to bring in Butters or King

Agree though - we’d clearly be offering a Humphrey a significant portion, if not most, of Trac’s current salary to get him to nominate us

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
